The actor is great portraying him. I hated Hickey in the book and even more so in the show.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments Yes, I hope the guy who is playing Hickey (Adam Nagaitis) gets that Emmy award for best supporting

i love all the acting but he is a standout

Erin (ems84) | 9060 comments I think the show should get some nominations, it's more deserving then some of the other shows the Emmy's tend to lean towards nominating.

Rafael da Silva (morfindel) | 633 comments The 9th episode was very good. Crozier shows again that he is a good guy. As Fitzjames said that not only God loves his men.

I liked the speech that that guy (I don't know who he is) gave to Dr. Goodsir in the tent. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Hickey is trying hard to get my hate. haha

Z | 1 comments Im on the second episode. Visuals are amazing, just how I imagined. I think a lot so far does not match the book accurately. Why is Lady Silence speaking and since when can Crozier understand her language? From what I remember no one on the expedition could speak with the Eskimos.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments i'm so pissed. i bought the series on amazon prime, and last week when I went to watch episode 8, it said on my account that i had to PAY for the remaining episodes!!! WTF!!!

I immediately called and complained, got some BS answer about an issue with the developer ?? was told I'd get a follow-up, and to try to purchase the season again in a week OR TWO WEEKS. I was like, "um hello!!! the show is over in 3 weeks!!!"

I've been tweeting @ amazon, no luck, when I'm out of work I will be calling again.

Now i'll be 2 episodes behind. Or more, depending on when I can actually watch the rest of the season. I had to get a refund on the show so I don't have access to the episodes anymore. I dont want to pay for the episodes individually bc then it ends up costing a lot more.

edit: now i am chatting online with an amazon rep, let's see what they say.

message 59: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin (ems84) | 9060 comments That sucks! Did you get anywhere with the Amazon rep?

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments YES! update, they told me the problem was fixed, for some reason my ticket didn't close so I guess thats why they never followed up with me. but they gave me 10$ off my repurchase!!

SO i finally watched ep 8 last night, now tonight I will watch ep 9... excited!!!

Erin (ems84) | 9060 comments That's good they were able to resolve it for you. I'm looking forward to the finale next week.

WendyB | 5016 comments Mod
I don't think the 10th episode will resolve anything and from what I've read, a second season for the show is in doubt. The ratings fell badly after the first two episodes. I'll let you all know if I learn anything else.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments I didnt know it was going to get a 2nd season. I thought they were trying for limited series category awards

message 64: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin (ems84) | 9060 comments I don't think a second season has ever been confirmed but this has been advertised as the show's first season so had it done well it probably would have continued on. I just don't see what they could have done for a second season especially with where we are now in the show with what has happened in the book.

Marie Helene | 741 comments I did not know the ratings did not go well (as I enjoyed the show so much) 😕

message 66: by Char (new) - rated it 4 stars

Char | 17459 comments I thought they were just going to do this limited run?

I've loved the show so far. I liked the intense darkness because I felt like it really brought home how dark it is there, and for how long that darkness lasts. I could never live with that.

WendyB | 5016 comments Mod
If, and that may be a big if, there was to be a second season, the only things I could thing they would cover would be the various rescue missions that were sent to look for The Terror and Erebus. Just a guess, and I don't know how interesting that would be.
Given where the show is now another two or three episodes would cover the ending of the book.

message 68: by Char (new) - rated it 4 stars

Char | 17459 comments I believe there is only one episode left. I'm not sure if it's going to be an extended one or not.
(I was thinking the same thing, though. They're pretty close to where the book ends, aren't they? It's been 20 years since I read it, but from what I remember, there isn't much left to the story.)

Heidi Ward (battyward) | 103 comments As much as I have loved The Terror in both written and visual formats, it would be ridiculous to try to eke another season out. Networks always try to milk shows past their logical ends, if the money is there -- but it's a story with a definite ending, and, as Char pointed out, they are nearly to it.

message 70: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin (ems84) | 9060 comments I believe the finale is this week and it is an extended episode (it runs for about 75 minutes, I think, but that is including commercials). They could probably give a conclusion in that amount of time. Whether it will follow how the book ends remains to be seen.

The commercials keep calling it the "season finale" and not series finale, so I'm betting the heads at AMC are debating if they can get another season out of the story. Hell, HBO has decided to do a second season of Big Little Lies which completely told the story of the one book.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I hope it's a series finale and there isn't another season. Sometimes it's a bad idea to continue a story after it ends. This book isn't translating very well to the screen. I don't think AMC could have done any better than they are doing, but it's just not working. I loved the first episode, but it got pretty boring from there.

In the book, men are having conversations that give me vivid pictures in my mind. The desolate landscape seems more foreboding as the book progresses. On the screen, I see a couple dudes talking against a white backdrop and that's almost all that I'm seeing. It is well acted and produced, but it's not working.

Alissa (alissamerritt) | 141 comments Alas, I have only watched two episodes. It's the same for every book adaptation that I've read. I lose complete interest no matter how good it is because I already know the story :(. The two episodes I did watch were very well done, and I don't doubt that this is a great adaptation, but it's just not in me to keep watching.

for what it's worth, the show does change quite a bit :)

message 75: by Char (new) - rated it 4 stars

Char | 17459 comments I ended up enjoying the season, (series?) finale. Even though it was different from the book, I thought the show as a whole, was successful. My husband enjoyed watching it with me and he's not familiar with the book at all. (The only problem he had with it was the accents, which he had a hard time understanding.)

I think they should leave well enough alone-I don't see how they could do better than they've already done, but I see a thousand ways where they do worse by continuing.

Marie Helene | 741 comments I've read the book, enjoyed it, will re-read it, was expecting the series with excitement, have not been disappointed, will re-watch it.

Last visual of the finale is something haunting.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments just saw that Jared Harris (Crozier) and Adam Nagaitis (hickey) will both be in the upcoming HBO limited series, Chernobyl! very happy about that as they were my two favorites on the show

So will there be a Season 2? Maybe! But don't expect any more of this particular story.

"When AMC greenlit the show now almost three years ago, they greenlit it as an anthology show," co-showrunner and executive producer Soo Hugh told TV Guide. "Meaning Season 1 would be the story of the Franklin Expedition, and subsequent seasons would take on a new narrative that carried the DNA that we established in Season 2."

Despite the show being named after this book (which in turn was named after one of the ships featured in the book), The Terror could return, presumably with a new story, setting and characters in each season, much like what American Crime Story does for FX and True Detective for HBO.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments it would be cool if they did an adaptation of the recent historical fiction - supernatural book The Hunger.

The Hunger by Alma Katsu

It seems like networks love to change their shows into anthologies. I honestly don't understand why they would want to do that with The Terror.

Alissa (alissamerritt) | 141 comments @Corinne, very rarely do I reread novels, simply because my TBR pile is enormous. I have a couple favorites that I do though.

I took it off the dvr record list.

I would love for this to be made. Ridley Scott did buy the rights so it would be logical that he has this in mind for adaptation.
