Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 74 comments Hi All,

I am Bluestocking7 and I thought I joined this group, but apparently I did it wrong and have not officially joined. Can this post be accepted as my intent to join this group? If not, can someone done point me in the right direction? I am technically challenged, but I do know how to read. Reading is my best talent. I do all communications on my phone because my laptop is currently in another state. A big thank you to BooknBlues for the invite!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12768 comments I am sure that the mods will acknowledge your post here as officially joining! All you need to do know is jump in! A great group

Booknblues | 12333 comments Welcome, Dosha! We can see the post here.

The way to tell if you have joined the group is on our group home page, under the welcome paragraph it states if you are a member.
If not you can find the join the group tab under our logo.

Some members of PBT may remember Dosha from our Shelfari days. We began recently talking about a book she read and I invited her to PBT, because we have many shared likes.

I will let Dosha tell us more about herself. I am glad to see you here!

Robin P | 5959 comments You are in the right place, Dosha, Welcome!

I keep hearing from our long-time members about the Shelfari days, which I wasn't part of, it's like our mythical heritage!

Robin P | 5959 comments **I would like to especially invite any of our newer members to join our Zoom call on August 17. See the details at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....

During the pandemic, we had regular calls, which allowed us to really get to know each other and see each other's homes, cats, needlework projects, etc. (or you can be like me and blur the background so you don't have to tidy up!)

Welcome Dosha! From everything I see, you joined us perfectly!! I am one of the administrators here, and we are so pleased you found us.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 74 comments I need someone to help me get alerts when there is a response in this group. As it is, I have to go to messages, find the link from Booknblues to introduce myself, and then scroll down from six years ago. Any help will be much appreciated.

Unfortunately, I will be on a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard on the 17th so I will not be able to join the zoom meeting.

Hi everyone, I’m Isabella and love to read books in a series. Once I find a series I love, I have to read until the end.

I gravitate towards mysteries however, I am trying to branch out and read all types of different genres.

Currently reading The Camel Club by David Baldacci.

Welcome, Isabella! This group will definitely expand your reading horizons. Jump in and have fun, there's no pressure to join any games, you can particpate as you want or lurk if you prefer :)

I love series too, we can compare!

message 419: by Booknblues (new)

Booknblues | 12333 comments Isabella, welcome. I and many other members who are fans of series. We are all trying to broaden our horizons.

This month our tag is sad, but you don't have to read if you don't want. You can put your reviews in Other Books if you don't choose a sad book.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 74 comments Welcome! You will absolutely love this group. I am happy to be here and I’m confident that will be even happier than me. Enjoy your new experiences here.

Welcome! I loved that series-enjoy!

message 423: by Ellen (new)

Ellen | 3556 comments Welcome Isabella! I am one who loves mystery series as well. Some of my favorites are C.J. Box, Archer Mayer, Linda Castillo and William Kent Krueger. I know this group will certainly broaden your horizons on reading genres. It has worked that way for me and I truly enjoy it.

message 424: by Robin P (last edited Sep 04, 2024 12:46PM) (new)

Robin P | 5959 comments Welcome, Isabella! I read a lot of mysteries, largely historical, but some contemporary as well. In historical mysteries, the detectives can't just call someone, consult the internet, etc. so there is way more scope for variety.

KateNZ | 4137 comments Welcome, Isabella! I love series too - in fact I have a tendency to overdose… You’ll love it here. Always something going on and we are a happy and friendly crowd

message 426: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you for the great welcoming messages. While I don’t have anything I am reading this month I would consider sad, I am looking forward to seeing what October’s tag is and will plan on reading something that fits.

message 427: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12768 comments Isabella reads FANTASY!!!! Oh how happy I am. I also loved David Eddings by the way, Isabella.

message 428: by [deleted user] (new)

Eddings is a classic. 🥰

Olivermagnus (lynda11282) | 4911 comments Welcome, Isabella! I know you will love this group. I read a lot of mystery series.....in fact it's my favorite genre. When I first joined this group many years ago I was worried that I wouldn't fit in because I wasn't a fan of "literary" fiction. But, the group won me over and I have read some great literary novels over the years that I would have ignored without reading the reviews. In return, I haven't been drummed out for loving schlocky romance series like Ice Planet Barbarians and Galactic Love!

Looking forward to reading some of your reviews.

I was looking at the FAQ for the group and have a question about tags.

I see that this month is “ sad”, if we read a book later on in the year that we consider sad, we can only use that tag for points for that particular month it is used. Is that correct? We can’t go back in say December and add our review under the September tag.

That's correct, if you read a book with that tag in December, it would either go under the December tag (if it happens to fit) or under Other Books.

Our games of Book with Friends and Steeplechase require the book to have 5 tags. But if you aren't involved in those, you can put any book under the monthly tag (in this case, Sad) just because you think it fits there.

Sorry for the un-fun tag this month, it was voted the best of 3 options. As you can see, we have a variety of tags - genres, subject matter, location, type of book such as Debut, etc. You will get to vote for the October tag when the options come out on Sep 15.

message 433: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Robin for confirming about the tag.

Guess I don’t read a lot of sad books. Looking forward to voting for the October tag.

On the subject of 'sad' tag books - many of those tagged sad are not really sad books or have upbeat endings. For example The Thirteenth Tale is heavily tagged sad but it's a gothic tale and while there are sad aspects, it's not what I would ever describe as a sad book but a gothic mystery. But then I don't use that tag either.

Take a look at the link to the GR listopia on the SAD tag - it's in the first message of the tag announcement thread I think. Definitely in the first message in the Vote for September Tag thread.

I'm pretty sure I saw a couple of series on there -- a fantasy one, a nordic noir.

message 435: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5959 comments The author I saw a lot on the Sad list whose books are never actually sad overall is Fredrik Backman.

Erin | 41 comments Hi all! I was an avid Play Book Tag member back in the Shelfari days. I somehow took a long hiatus from being much of an active reader, but I’m trying to get back into it. I’m thrilled to see Anita and crew are still keeping this going. Hoping to jump in and get reading again.

Khushi Batra | 1 comments Hello Everyone, It's my first time here. My name is Khushi, I'm a sophomore in high school and because my school doesn't have any book clubs and I'm quite fond of books - I've decided to join an online one!
I'm currently reading Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery as a part of the Canada theme for next January!

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8493 comments Hello, Khushi ... welcome to the group!

I've just started reading Christmas with Anne and Other Holiday Stories now. And I probably won't have it finished before January, so it will count for CANADA! (Thanks for that reminder.)
