Sci-Fi/Fantasy - book about a vampire with a talking cat

I can’t remember much about the book. I was looking at it to buy years ago and never got around to it and now I can’t find it. From what I remember, the first chapter opens with a sad elderly vampire hanging himself from a chandelier with a talking cat reminding him that that isn’t going to kill him. The talking cat is the vampire’s best friend’s soul trapped in the cat’s body.
I’ve been going crazy trying to find this with no luck yet.
