In the book the writer bring things to life and that she had to go on an epic quest to find this rare book. Her dad was the writer and she had to find the book to save him. It became a movie, but I don't remember when. I read the book in highschool so I read it anytime between 2006-2010. The series had 3 books in it. There were only 8 in print and that she had to find it to save her dad or something. It was a thick book (I think).

This sounds like Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. Inkheart is the first book in the Inkworld trilogy. Inkheart has indeed been made into a movie.
