Dessa (dessashewolf) Hi everyone,

I’m Dessa and I'm from Kosovo and I'm part of Goodreads since last year, and this is the first group I've joined! I’m looking forward to connecting with all book lovers here!

I absolutely can say I'm addicted to books, I'm a very fast reader ( I hate myself sometimes for it) so I read a lot in a year.
My goal for this year is to read 400 books, but since I'm almost there I think I'm gonna have to change it...

Look forward to hear from you all!!
Hope your weekend is all booked....

Markie Blackburn (carlamarkie) | 94 comments Hey, hey everyone!
My name is Markie, I'm from Fayetteville, WV. I read a lot of horror/mystery/thriller books and young adult. I found this group under the community group page and it looked like it would be interesting to join. My reading goal for this year is 75, and I'm hoping that I can clear out my bookshelf at home. I'm a serious book hoarder and I get new books much quicker than I can read them.

Hi Markie welcome! Are you a Stephen King fan seeing how his books touch on horror? I think he is by far my favorite. How much of your goal have you completed? I look forward to seeing what you read. Welcome again and have fun.

ren | 4 comments hello all!
i'm new here, just started reading again after a long time off. this is the first group i've joined so apologies in advance if i post things in the wrong place!
i'm 25 and moved to australia 3 years ago from the united kingdom.
my reading goal is to read a book a week, i posted about it in the challenges section! i'm currently behind and have been in this group for a few months. i figured i should start posting to motivate me to read more!
i'm not very fussy with books and just enjoy the act of reading. my favourite books growing up were Harry Potter and the His Dark Materials series.
lately i've been reading everything by Gaiman and completely fallen in love with his style! it's so lovely to find an author that makes you feel the magic you felt when you read as a child!
nice to meet you all :)

message 664: by Kat (new)

Kat (kat_falkenroth) | 1 comments Hey everyone,

I'm Kat, actually Katrin, 34 and from Germany. I read every genre actually, but mostly historical stuff (fiction & non-fiction), fantasy, classics and biographies.

My reading goal for this year is currently 150 (started with 100, raised to 175, realized that makes me ignore the bigger books on my TBR, reduced it again...) and I finished 95 so far, currently reading 11 (I just constantly have to have different options to read...)

Grateful for joining this group and looking forward to good times here :)

Hi Kat welcome to the group! What a great way to make sure you read bigger books I like that idea. What draws you into historical? I think you will find that this group has a challenge for all types of readers. Good luck finishing your 11 books and happy reading.

Ikram Douhab | 3 comments Hi!! I'm Ikram from Morocco. I'm 17 years old. I'm sadly not a good reader, maybe because I can't read all genres, wich means I need to choose so carefully the book I'm going to read so that I Don't get bored easily. My current favourite genres are fiction and fantasy maybe historical too. One of the reasons that brought me to GOODREADS was the fact that I've never acheive any reading goal, because I'm unfortunatly so lazy, so instead of reading the book, I Watch It's movie. I'm glad I joined this group because I feel you are going to cheer me up and encourage me to enhance my reading skills. And finally, what are the books you recommand me to read?? HAPPY READING EVERYONE!!

Hello, Ikram & "Welcome" I see you are reading about Anne Frank -who for one whose accomplishments were stolen - she was/is an awesome & amazing human being.

Practice, practice, practice is my advise for slow to no or overcoming an aversion to reading - I 💞 loved 💞 reading as a little girl, my mom encouraged it & then she was gone, yet my love of reading helped keep her alive & after it was 'escape!'

Given your taste for non-fiction, I say 'Jesus and the Disinherited' by Howard Thurman. It was a book Dr. Martin Luther King carried everywhere and its "thesis" premise will serve you in good stead as a life - light, beacon of hope & it is 'compact' only 112 pages.

Many goodreads await you & I am "following" you & your 📚 progress✌

Hi Ikram welcome! There is no such thing as a bad reader we all read at our own pace. If you want to try something different maybe try and listen to a book. if You are a fantasy reader try The Name of the Wind. I can''t wait to see what you think. I wouldn't say I have a favorite author I have authors I adore like Mr. King, Sherrilyn Kenyon, and J.K. Rowling. I have found several diamonds that I wouldn't have read unless they had come across my desk like they did. Firstly "Horns" by Joe Hill, "The Dinner" by Herman Koch, "The Wonder" by Emma Donoghue who also wrote the fabulous "Room", "I Let You Go" by Clare Mackintosh, "The Arrangement" by Sarah Dun, and "The Kind Worth Killing" by Peter Swanson. Honestly I could go on all day. I picked all of these up on a whim or because of a book club meeting and most of these way before they were movies. I see more things I add to my reading list in hopes that they will be as good as these were.

message 683: by oshizu (new)

oshizu | 5762 comments Hello.
I was born in Japan then raised and lived in California and Tokyo.

My favorite genre is world literature. I realize that's not a "real" genre but I enjoy learning (in a non-fictional way) about different cultures. I also really enjoy historical fiction but read a lot more sci-fi and murder mysteries. After devouring Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom last month, I'm a new convert to Fantasy as well. I read in both Japanese and English, but more often in English these days.

I joined Goodreads around June, I think. I'm doing my first-ever reading challenge this year and wanted/needed moral support, hehe.
While reading a review for a possible read, I found a group discussion on that particular book. Clicking it led me to this group.

I'm trying to complete the 2018 PopSugar Reading Challenge, so this year's aim is 52 books.
The group member's high activity level and the mods' degree of support are both super attractive.
Also, all of the various challenges motivate me to try to finish PopSugar early so I can dip my toe in something else. :D

BRINDA GURUSAMY (brinsga) | 18 comments Hello everyone,

I'm Brinda, I'm from India but currently living in San Francisco. Reading books used to be my favorite childhood hobby but I had somehow lost track with other busy stuff in live. I'd like to start reading books again and enjoy escaping the reality as I used to. I enjoy reading historical fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, and chick-lit. I randomly came across the group when looking at a Friend's home page and I'm happy to have found it.

You guys are doing an incredible job. It's motivating and I'm all set to work in my 2018 Reading challenge, though I'm far behind.

I'm looking forward to reading and connecting with you guys!

message 685: by Lea (new)

Lea Lopez | 2 comments Hi everyone, I'm Lea from Manila, Philippines. I have no particular favorite genre, I just enjoy Fiction in general. I want to push myself though, to appreciate non-fiction some more :)
I've been a member of Goodreads since 2010 and have set reading goals ever since 2013. I've been a bookworm for a long time.
I joined this group to get new ideas and maybe friends who'll support my reading goals. This year and the past, I've had, what you call the reading slump. I've lost motivation on reading new books (I don't know what happened.) So for the past year and this year, I just reread all the books I've read before. I just went back to one of my first loves, and all time favorite: The Harry Potter series.

Here's hoping that I'll surpass this slump and start rediscovering the beauty of new books!

message 691: by Lewis (new)

Lewis (lewis117) | 2 comments Hi my name is Lewis and recently I’ve picked up reading as a habit and I’m absolutely loving it. I was more into video games when I was younger and saw books more as chore then recreation (big mistake because my dad actually had a huge library of books that he had to give away before we moved). I’m 21 now and have been reading for about a month straight everyday, no matter what responsibilities I have, I try to sneak in 30-60 minutes of reading. I have mostly read action book from authors like Vince Flynn and Tom Clancy although I have been branching out to other areas, I’m trying to expand my library because it is rather new and sometimes I don’t have the money to purchase books at times, but I’ve gotten a couple classics (super excited to read Don Quixote) and I want to read more horror and thriller based books. I hope to make friends on here, get new book recommendations and have discussions of different books :)

Fallon | 2 comments Hi everyone, my name is Fallon! I am from Rhode Island and I recently started to get back into reading for fun/ for a hobby. I loved reading when I was younger, but during and even a little bit after college I did not enjoy it. After looking into some newer books that caught my attention, I decided to get back into it! I am trying a personal goal of reading 2 books per month. I recently finished Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects. I truly enjoyed both! I am currently reading Baby Teeth. My genre preferences are thriller, crime, mystery, and the classic best selling fiction novels that everyone else is reading so I stay in the mainstream loop! I have a bunch of books lined up to hopefully meet my goal, and I welcome any suggestions as well!
