PIFM - Chat/Banter/Review Your June 2018 Read
Unless there are more votes by Friday, I will be reading The Earth Dragon Awakes: The San Francisco Earthquake of 1906, The Year 1000: What Life Was Like at the Turn of the First Millennium and The Birth of Satan: Tracing the Devil's Biblical Roots in June...provided, of course, that I can actually
find
these books in my library's database.
I just finished watching the Great American Read on PBS tonight. I can highly recommend it. I hope you all can find a repeat of the episode. It discusses author bios as well of the 100 books selected as the favorites. I loved it. Now I am suppose to vote on my favorite book from their list - or add a book.

(And I was so pleased to see The Book Thief right on the first page - one of my all time favourites)
I'm really ahead of myself on my June books but The Retreat
by Mark Edwards was so well written I could hardly put it down. Here's a link to my review.

I see that they are streaming parts of last night's episode so you can watch it. I had a hard time leaving the TV during the 2 hours (except for bathroom breaks)..
That show sounds interesting. I had heard a little about it and was curious, but never followed through. I am going to check it out. @Ann I am so glad you enjoyed The Retreat. I thought it was great too. When I saw it on your list, I thought you would like it, especially being about to relate to other authors.

was written by a teen girl. Amazing! I’m not a
or
fan but I enjoyed the diversity of the list. The programme really got you thinking and reminiscing.
Vicki said 'I am so glad you enjoyed The Retreat...'Yes, it was a great pick.
(Though I don't think I'd ever hole myself up with a bunch of other writers in the middle of nowhere - that would just be asking for trouble :) )
I have two with 4 votes each - I may try to read both but after starting a new job 2 weeks ago I have much less time to read (boo) and so we'll see. Will try and catch up with all the posts here later
The Great American Read is going to repeat Saturday twice on PBS. I will probably watch it again - it was that good.
Congrats on the new job MandyI didn't know that Melanie... that's pretty cool! I don't even remember learning that when it was required reading in grade 7-ish? I still love The Outsiders.

It's worth it, Perri (in my humble opinion). Robin Hobb is a fantastic storyteller.
Congratulations on the new job, Mandy. What are you doing now?
Also, I have a tie between Her Final Breath and The Music of the Deep, would someone mind breaking it for me please?
Sophie said, 'Also, I have a tie ...'They both look good!
To make it simple, I'll vote for Her Final Breath because I've had Dugoni on my list for a long time.
Happy Reading.
It appears that Lightning Men
has won. I have started reading it and will probably also read one of my second place winners .

I just checked the listing on PBS for Saturday and the info I was given was wrong. I do not see The Great American Read at all. If you are interested go to facebook and like their page and join the discussion. There are some clips of the original show.

Music of the Deep looked amazing!

Hahaha well I'm going to bask on a beach near Barcelona from 30th June and will need lots to read so if anything I will make a point to read The Music of the Deep during the first week of July if anyone fancies a buddy read?

I requested my library buy it, so if it works I'm in! Didn't you go to Barcelona last year? Jealous!
The Birth of Satan: Tracing the Devil's Biblical Roots, The Earth Dragon Awakens: The Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 and The Year 1000: What Life Was Like at the Turn of the First Millennium: An Englishman's World, Christine. You were the only one to vote for The Incredible Shrinking Son of Man: How Reliable is the Gospel Tradition? this month so it didn't even make third place.
True, but what stinks even more is that the font in The Birth of Satan was almost too small for me to read. Plus, I couldn't make heads or tails of the Introduction, so I didn't even bother reading the first chapter. As for the second book, The Earth Dragon Awakens, I've already finished it.
So all I have left is The Year 1000.
I like reading books that have big words and I knew you would laugh about me finishing my 67th book lol
At least you've read 66 books more than Agent Orange has probably read his entire life...except when he was in school.
I have been also reading one of my second place winners, Watchers by Dean Koontz. It is so good that I haven't been able to get back to Lightning Men, my first place winner.By the Way, Watchers is on the list of 100 best books of the Great American Read.

I can't believe I skipped you. I just voted for
White Lies. It was also my choice.
