She took me on another crazy emotional rollercoaster ride that I wanted to stay on until the very end.... this book kept me up until 2:00 in the morning and left my head spinning.... and truth be told I still don’t know what really happened, but I think that is the beauty of it.... there are three sides to the story... his side... her side... and the truth....

White Lies by Lucy Dawson is one of those rare gems that really does live up to it’s tag line of being a gripping psychological thriller with an absolutely brilliant twist. I’m filing this one in my what the heck did I just read folder.

The story starts a reader off by introducing Alexandra Inglis who is apparently waking up to a one night stand after a drunken night out with her girlfriends in Ibiza. This probably wouldn’t be a problem if Alex was single and wild and free but she’s actually a ma

3.5* rounded up to 4*.

Alexandra (Alex) Inglis is a respected family Doctor, trusted by her patients to keep their most intimate secrets. When Alex oversteps a line with, Jonathan, one of her patients, she knows she's gone to far.

At first I felt sorry for Alex, who while on holiday, made a huge mistake in sleeping with someone. Then I did not know who to believe. Her husband is at home looking after their two young daughters. Then she finds out that the person, Jonathan, is a patient of hers and

Never knew that lies come in all colors. In that case, we may all be adorned in a painter's smock smattered with every hue.

Dr. Alexandra Inglis is on holiday in Ibiza with her girl friends. Way too much rum in those fancy umbrella drinks. With numbed lips and a numbed mind, Alex meets up with a tall handsome stranger in the wee hours. Eventually, the sun's rays shed a piercing light upon the stranger who now shares her bed in this upscale hotel room. Alex glances over as the young man grabs his

EXCERPT: I glanced at the crumpled, empty bed and shuddered at what I'd done there with him in the night - things that I let happen. That I made happen. I put my hands up to my thudding head, threaded my fingers into my hair and closed my eyes.

Things that I now will never be able to undo.

White Lies is yet another winner by Lucy Dawson. I was intrigued from the very first chapter, when something happens that creates a domino effect of sorts in the life of the protagonist, leading to a creepy conclusion.

I am definitely a character-driven reader and sometimes they feel a little formulaic in psychological thriller (or maybe I have been overdoing it with the genre...) but I am happy to report that Alexandra, the protagonist of White Lies, does not fall into this category. She is a ro

The book started with a bang (literally), a doctor (ahem ahem) Alex goes for girls' weekend to Ibiza to relax and enjoy. What happens in Ibiza should have remained in Ibiza! But unfortunately a night of fun, dance, drinks, and sex (a one-night stand) with a young man Jonathan soon gets exposed. Alex, back home, not only confesses to her husband, finds herself in the midst of a storm in the teapot. That young man who had done the dirty with her, is a 17 year school kid and her patient!!! Horrors! ...more

A really engaging thriller that sees Alex, a doctor, have a one night stand on a drunken weekend in Ibiza, only to find out that unbeknownst to her it was with one of her patients. However, he is telling a much different story! Things spiral out from beyond her control and she finds that one night could cost her her husband, her family and her career. I found this book to be quite gripping, racing through it to see what the truth was and who was telling the lies. Recommended for all lovers of ps ...more

Oh this was gooood. Dr Alex Inglis is away at a girl's weekend in Ibiza when she gets terribly drunk and ends up taking a young man back to her hotel room. In the morning she is horrified at what she has done. She is, after all, a 40 year old married woman, mother and doctor. When she gets back home she is more horrified to learn that the young man is actually a patient of hers and only 17 years old. She immediately tells her husband, after all, he himself had only recently had a fling with a yo ...more

White Lies is written in a way that means it quickly became a very addictive read. Beginning in the form of statements (though written in a typical story style), we hear from Dr Alex Inglis who cheats on her husband in Ibiza only to return to the UK to find out the person she had sex with is her 17 year old patient, Jonathan Day. And so begins a he said, she said tale as we start to hear from Jonathan and others involved in the story such as Alex’s husband, Jonathan’s parents and his girlfriend. ...more

A psychological thriller that had my head spinning, unsure of what I was reading, or who’s story to believe. A he said/she said domestic drama full of secrets and lies. At the end you’ll be scratching your head and NOT believe what’s there in front of you. All I can say is WOW. I see a sequel possibly due to its ending.. hoping that is. Lucy Dawson is a new to me author, after reading this book I’m definitely interested in reading more!

What a breath of fresh air after my dreary book funk!

With a great writing style, I already knew from reading the first three pages that this was going to be an addictive read. And boy, were my instincts right about this one!

The book starts off with a bang with Dr Alex Inglis waking up with one hell of a hangover, with a very good looking young man sleeping beside her after an eventful night in the bedroom. This is not exactly what she had planned for her girls' Ibiza weekend away...after all, s

Good grief. How to even begin to explain how White Lies made me feel? You know that game where you’re blindfolded and people spin you around and around and you’re left slightly nauseous, dizzy and completely disorientated? Yes, a bit like that.

Alex is a respected doctor, wife and mother. But when she crosses the line with one of her patients, she stands to lose everything. The story is mostly told by Alex and Jonathan but it quickly becomes obvious they both have rather different versions of the

Without a doubt this is one unputdownable read. I made the mistake of picking it up one evening when I went to bed for an early night. I ended up reading over half of it in one sitting and finished it off the day after in the second sitting. Obviously no early night for me!

The story is split into parts, we start off seeing everything from Alex’s point of view and then it’s the turn of Jonathan. This is one of those stories that you end up not knowing quite what to believe. When you hear each sid

I liked how each character had a chapter (or testimony) from their POV so it was easy to follow each persons story of how things went down. Not one narrator was reliable and that added to the darkness of this thriller. I wasn’t sure who was telling the truth and who was lying.
I kept turning the pages because I wanted to know the truth...and if there even was a truth!
Dark, twisted, twisty, dangerous!

Lucy Dawson is definitely a go to author for me. Everything that I have read by her has been fantastic and this one definitely did not disappoint. I read this whilst away on holidays and it was very hard to put down.

Dear White Lies,

It's me, not you. I'm afraid I may not have given you a fair shot, but I didn't think I could wade through 300 or so pages before getting to the end to figure out which person (or persons) is crazy, lying and/or the bad guy. I was just not up for another He Said/ She Said. I feel like I've been down this path too many times and it just seems redundant to me right now.

I am sorry I was only able to give you a 2.5 Star rating but that may just be more an indication of my

White Lies is a tough one to review. There were parts I liked and parts where I wanted to throw the book across the room and start a new one. I often felt frustrated and I thought it would end without the nice little bow. But bow I got and I felt very satisfied with the ending.

I connected more with Alex's husband, Rob, than I did with Alex. She confused me but I was still intrigued with her and felt the need to figure her out. I absolutely could not stand Jonathan but I didn't mind it a

I'm not even sure where to start with this one as it literally blew my mind! I love that it references the Weinstein scandal and turns the tables on the subject of sexual harassment by questioning whether it is the adult woman doctor or the young 17-year-old male student telling lies and obsessing over the other. Is it truly a drunken one-night-stand at a "girls' weekend getaway" gone wrong, or is the good doctor looking to further her fantasies about a handsome young man? And is he obsessed wit ...more

Once again Lucy Dawson has stolen around 3 and a half hours of my life, but replaced them with a compulsively addictive book that I couldn't tear myself away from, as I was utterly hooked on White Lies from the first chapter.

I was completely drawn into Alex's version of events, up until we started getting other view points, at which point I twigged that I had absolutely no clue who was telling the truth and who as the title suggested was telling white lies.

I loved this author’s last book The Daughter so I was really excited when I saw that her latest release, White Lies was out and I could not wait to get my hands on a copy!

4 Sirius stars for this little gem of a book. I say Sirius because it’s the brightest star in the sky and if I hadn’t guessed the ending early on, I would rate it 5. It’s an emotional roller coaster that that will make your head spin in the best possible way.
It’s fresh, it’s exciting, it’s modern and captivating and i promise you, you will finish it in one sitting.

For a mother of two young children, the opportunity to take a short vacation and let loose for a bit in Ibiza sounds tantalizing, right? In Lucy Dawson's White Lies what initially seemed like a fabulous trip to get a break from working motherhood turns into a living nightmare for Dr. Alexandra ("Alex") Inglis.

The book starts with Alex waking up with a severe hangover after a wild night in Ibiza. She startles when she discovers she's not alone in her hotel room and that a ha

White Lies is a book that will keep you guessing and then second-guessing right up to the very end.

Dr. Alexandra Inglis is on an all-girls trip. Having way too much to drink the night before, she wakes up next to someone in bed who is not her husband. To make matters worse, she finds out that the man she slept with turns out to be one of her patients. When she tries to tell him it was a mistake he turns into an obsessive stalker. Well, that's Alex's version. Jonathon, on the other hand has a di

“kept my promise – because when I slept with Hannah it was just sex and it meant less than nothing – I honestly believe it’s true. I had, and still have, no feelings for Hannah whatsoever. I don’t even particularly like her as a person. I made a mistake – but it’s scarily easy to do.” 0 likes
“Jonathan Day has no autonomy in his relationship with his parents, so he seeks out situations where he gets one up on someone in a parental position instead – I was just a vehicle for his need to lose and then regain control. Sometimes he uses sex to get his own way, sometimes power. He’s happy to play the poor little boy or the powerful man, as long as he has the upper hand. If I hadn’t become his victim, I would have found it fascinating that he could suppress or invoke feelings for the purpose of control, rather than the authenticity of the feelings themselves.” 0 likes
