Merely a Marriage by Jo Beverley
Merely a Marriage

Date Read: 3/28
Rating: 4 stars
Pages: 352 Mass Paperback
Review:
After the death of Princess Charlotte of England. Ariana ( the main character) is concerned about her brother's martial status. If he doesn't marry and provide and heir then the family home is lost. Norris, her brother, agrees to marry if Ariana gets married first? I thought this book was good, though I saw some glaring mistakes in it. I spotted a few mistakes, like the hair color of Ariana, one minute she was blond, and then in next chapter she had dark hair? Plus, I thought the romance between Arianna and Kynaston was entirely to slow. Overall, I liked the plot. I would definitely recommend this book.

This was a wonderful conclusion to the series. I loved seeing Quintessa's (Tess) transformation, because I didn't particularly like her in the previous books and now I like her a lot! The ending left me wanting to know more about a certain character, but I don't know if I'll ever know more. Definitely a book and series I'd recommend.

It starts off slow. Over explains how the club came about, the purpose of the club, and the lifestyle. There isn't really much of a plot. A little background was given on Anna and Jenson. Most of the book was sex and the different kinks that start with A.

The more that I listened to this book, the more familiar that it seemed. However, I knew that I hadn’t read this one. As I progressed in this book, I realized that I had not read it but is basically a retelling of a prior story. This one is in Fang’s POF, and I did learn more about his and Amiee’s story, which I enjoyed. There was quite a bit going on in this installment. I do think that this could read as a stand-alone, but gaps where I was confused gave me an ah ha moment. The narrator for this series has been amazing. His voice is soothing even for vampires and shape shifters. I highly recommend the series!

You need to find a book that has 'historical' in the main page genre listed on the GR page for that book.

Eg Black Sheep
On this book's GR page, 'historical' is quoted under the genre section multiple times. You just need to read a book that shows it at least once.

There was quite a lot of suspense in this and I enjoyed all the twists that I had not seen coming and it seems like that is going to continue in the next book. I didn't like the way the MC couldn't figure out her feelings but I had to remind myself she was only 16 so quite innocent and unsure if the love was for someone new or someone she had known all her life.

I liked this retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It was a pretty easy read for being over 350 pgs. The relationship that developed between the MCs was easy and when there was conflict, both were able to overcome their own pride/fears enough to work through them rather than letting them make the problems worse. So while there was the BIG MISUNDERSTANDING, it was actually very easily resolved. Overall this was a pretty comforting read but still interesting enough to keep my attention.

This was a good start for the series, but I'll be honest I'm most interested in seeing Verity's story (which I hope will be book #2, since she's the next oldest). I liked the sisters, though they were definitely more modern thinking than I'd expect in this time period.

My Sister's Intended was a sweet historical romance. Prudence was a very likable character and had some funny scenes, the tree one definitely was the most memorable. Knave was someone I didn't like all that much in the beginning, but over the course of the story liked more and more. I was worried from the start of the story about Sophia's feelings, what with the description and title of the book, but I was pleased with how the book ended and am looking forward to her story. Definitely would recommend this book.

Review: This is the second book of Sabrina Jeffries of the Sinful suitors series. I was not sure that I was going to like this book when I first started it, but I ended up really enjoying it . Edwin Barlow is asked to look after his friends cousin while he out of town. Apparently she is being stalked by a suitor who doesn't the know the meaning of the word no. Not only did I like the romance in this, there as an element of mystery as well that went well in this book. This book does mention rape in this. I am definitely going to continue with this series. I would definitely recommend this book.

This book has received high praise, but I had a very difficult time getting into it. There really wasn’t a problem with the plot, characters were flushed out, and the writing style was fine. I just can’t quite determine why the book did not speak to me. About half way through, I finally began to pick up speed and began to enjoy more. This is a series read, and I don’t think that I will continue any further. I’m just glad to call this one done. I have read another book by this author and found that one quite enjoyable so nothing against Ms. Howell – just not my cup of tea.

Review: The book starts out showing how the main character, Joanne, is very dedicated to her cousin Lydia. We learn that after the death of her parents, Joanne has moved in with her Aunt and Uncle who don't seem to like her and think of her as a burden. So when Joanne is trapped into scandal by an obsessive beau of hers, they automatically believe the worse of Joanne and demand she marry this man. Joanne refuses and is disowned and her reputation maligned by her aunt/uncle. Years later, after hearing about the death of her cousin Lydia......Joanne returns to England to take care of Lydia son Milo. She not only a governess, but her duties seem to including run the household staff as well. I don't want to give to much away, but I liked this book, it had a lot of twist and turns to it that kept me glued to it There was a few mistakes that kept me from giving it a 5 star rating. First, I wasn't sure if the son was named Milo or Miles? They seemed to use both names for him. Plus in some areas the plot was over the top. thought in order to make the character of Joanne look good they had to vilify Lydia as much as possible. Plus, the character of Joanne was annoying me towards the end. She preached one thing and then went against her own advice the next. Plus, I hate when characters who have a martyr complex about themselves. I just find it self-serving and annoying. And this certainly applied to Joanne throughout the book. Despite these glares I would recommend this book.

The In Death series is one of my favorites especially on audio. I love the narrator, and I think that she should also receive 5 stars. All of the regular gang is back in this one.

Amarylis Coltraine has recently transferred from the Atlanta Police Force to New York but has already started dating Eve's friend, who happens to be Chief Medical Examiner. This time the murder has become personal as Eve is the one who tells Morris about Coltraine's demise. Eve receives a mysterious package at cop central to find Coltraine's gun and badge with a note suggesting that Eve's possessions maybe the next ones to be sent to a loved one.
