Nay (4ukcats) I responded at Maryse's, Kooloo. That sounds great! I only have 50 pages left and then I'll be ready to start!

message 102: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) OK, I'm ready, Kooloo! I may read a few pages tonight--IF I can see through my eyes that are swollen from bawling the last 30 minutes!

Melinda--OMG I LOVED them! So well written. My only complaint is the fade to black at the most inopportune times.

If an author is constantly going to tell me how sexy and sexUAL the hero is, why do you glaze over the sex scenes?

I'm not trying to be mean because, like I said, they're SO well written and I LOVED them! But I think it's such a cop-out to get the characters all worked up and then start the next paragraph with 'Later, they slept for hours'. (and simply using 'later' is also a TERRIBLE transition). These two had a VERY sexual relationship, but the reader hardly got to enjoy any of it.

message 104: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Haha. Funny video. Kooloo, she could try Georgette Heyer. Completely clean but wonderful classic HRs. Fun stories, lovely characterisations, HEA. To start with maybe Venetia or These Old Shades or The Black Sheep or Arabella.

A more recent alternative would be Stella Riley e.g. The Wicked Cousin. No sex before marriage and even then it's not too saucy.

If you think not then let me know and I'll see what else I can come up with.

message 109: by Kooloo (new)

Kooloo | 596 comments Paula I had the same problem
Could not understand why everyone was raving mad about it
but then I changed my perspective and read it for what it is

a break away from the comfortable and expected

Nay (4ukcats) The pressure is real. I didn't LOOOOVE it like many did, but I did 4-star it and highly recommend. I also had trouble at the beginning.

There’s so many good ones. That’s why we have pick for me then you have to read it. I’ve been soooo busy. I had my daughters 18th Birthday last night and had 36 for a sit down dinner. I think I killed myself.

I know, me too! I just had trouble with the 2nd half of the book and connecting with the passage of time.

message 119: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments Awwww..... that's ok. One more to cross off your TBR.

By the way, we're on our way to Nashville (driving). Left Pennsylvania at 5 am. We are 120 miles from Knoxville!

Fabi NEEDS Email Notifications | 872 comments That's so exciting Jean. I wish I was going too.

Yay, Jean! So from Knoxville, you've only got another 3 or so hours to Nashville. Wow, that's quite a drive from PA. But don't forget you'll gain an hour when it changes to central time.

message 123: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments Yes Renee! We didn't realize there was an hour time difference until yesterday! Duh!

message 124: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Jean--are y'all staying in downtown Nashville?

message 125: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1658 comments We rented a house through Airbnb right outside Nashville (I think). It says it's 6 minutes to downtown. We are on the other side of the bridge if that makes sense to you.

message 126: by Nay (last edited Mar 04, 2018 06:57PM) (new)

Nay (4ukcats) No, it doesn't. lol There are several bridges around downtown. Are you N, S, E or W? Is it maybe an older house in East Nashville?

Fabi NEEDS Email Notifications | 872 comments Are y'all gonna meet up for a drink or a coffee? I'm so jealous.

message 128: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I just kinda figured she's on vacation with her family, but I'd love to meet up if Jean gets some free time. I only have one dr. appt. this week. lol

message 129: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments Do it, meet up. That would be so awesome. We should one day all meet up. I think that would be so great. And Bev, i’ii bring the cake. 😂😂

Sweet Jesus, I'm still alive. What a few days. So... I'm still alive. it's been complete and utter chaos here. We had that snow storm, lost power, power came back, then lost it again, then my daughter had a dance competition, and then my phone died. Kaput, just died. Sigh, I'd been waffling for a while on what I wanted, well...no that's a lie, I knew what I wanted, just didn't want to bite the bit and spend a ton of money to buy it. Anywho... I finally got it straightened out. Well, I got a new phone anyway, now there's the learning curve, of figuring out said phone and getting back all of my apps and yadda yadda yadda.... gah, freaking technology, right?

message 146: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Amy--if you happen to see this, I'm actually asking you, but since I'm not sure if you'll see it, I'll ask anyone...At Maryse's, what is Amy speaking of being worried about with reading At This Moment? Being half of Marmy, I thought Amy would read anything!

I'm asking here instead of at Maryse's so that it can be put in a spoiler tag.

message 147: by Paula (new)

Paula White | 800 comments Not sure Nay - I have messaged her as it is no way like Carnage

message 148: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments If there is cheating on the H's part, she won't read it. Even if they were taking a break at the time, it drives her nuts.

Grey | 2385 comments Mod
Im gonna take a stab at this one...because I'm a Grey Marmy. *giggle* so I'm gonna answer. (view spoiler) just my two cents... like I said I didnt read the blurb

message 150: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Ok, thanks. Welllllll, both of these things are...hmm...I don't know. I think she'd need to read it to see if she can read it because there's a caveat in there AND it is an epic romance, so when a book spans 25 years, there's often some type of separation. I can see where she's having doubts, but I hate for her to miss it!

There was one part in the 2nd book (I think) that I'm surprised more people don't get upset about. I was ok with reading it (not ok with it happening), so I worry about that when I recommend it to others. It was: (view spoiler).

For me, that's part of a heavy, dark story line and I take it in stride, but I can definitely see where it could be too difficult for some to read.
