Angelina (castelina) | 2 comments I am looking for this book I read once three years ago. I am unsure of the genre, but I remember most things about the book.
It starts off with two girls (one Japanese and the other American) that become friends. The American girl has two other friends who are very rude to the Japanese girl, so she stops associating with them to play with the Japanese girl. As they get older, they recognize this tea shop as their meeting place. It's their favorite place to go because it has a beautiful garden. The Japanese girls family has a shop in the area of town where only Japanese people go (I'm pretty sure it was just called Japanese Town... not sure though). When the war (WWII) starts, people break the windows and vandalize her family's store. The Japanese girl and her family eventually get taken and put into camps. The friends exchange letters for a while, but I'm pretty sure they have to stop for some reason. Years and years later (they are now teenagers) The American girl sends a letter to the Japanese girls most recent address, given to her after visiting the last camp she was in, and asks her to go to the tea place with the garden they used to love. She doesn't expect much, but they do end up seeing each other. The book then ends.
I've been thinking about this book a lot lately and want to re read it. Any feedback is really appreciated, thanks.
