Anne Zandt (poisonpainter) | 130 comments Hi,

I hope this is the right topic for it, but I found two editions of books by the authoress that are missing a cover, proper information and the connection to the original version. Maybe someone could edit this.

One is "Das Nachtfenster" (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... - ISBN: 3785530072 ) which is the German version of "The Fear Man".
The cover can be found here: http://www.booklooker.de/images/cover...
The blurb reads as follows:
It is 189 pages long.

The other one is "Schattenträume" (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... - ISBN: 3785529120 ), which is the German version of The Haunting of Jessica Raven.
Its cover can be found here: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I...
The blurb reads as follows:
It is 157 pages long.

Both books were published as hardcover under her pseudonym Ann Halam.

Thanks in advance for having a look at this.

Z-squared | 8575 comments I've corrected both editions and combined them with their parent works. However, I couldn't use the cover image for Das Nachtfenster because the only bookseller we're allowed to use images from is Amazon.

Anne Zandt (poisonpainter) | 130 comments Thanks.
Amazon has a picture as well, but it's tiny, maybe you still want to use it: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I...

Z-squared | 8575 comments tiny is better than nothing! i have added it.

Anne Zandt (poisonpainter) | 130 comments All right. :)

Didn't want to start a new topic, so I thought I might collect my findings here as I'm currently looking through the database to find the books I've read and already found a couple of "issues" that I would like to comment on:

#1 Lord of the Flies has several quite similar entries for these two Mass Market Paperback Editions:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Some of them have a rating, but not every one.
The difference I can see is that some are by different publishers, but there are also several by the same that have no obvious difference in the details.
Is it necessary to have all these versions lying around?

#2 The German version of Timekeepers misses details and a cover:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
It was published in 2007 by Bastei Lübbe and has 315 pages.
The cover can be found here: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I...

#3 A question for https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Why is it depicted as both parts and not as separate edition for the First Part?
Both parts would look like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I... and have this ISBN: 3872912380 (according to Amazon).
Part One of the Tragedy has the cover and ISBN of the supposed double edition (first link).
Part Two's ISBN is this: 3872911694, but it unfortunately doesn't have a separate picture on Amazon.

#4 Same question as #3 just with https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... and the four books in it, though these can't be bought separately (excluding re-buys).
Would it be possible/make sense to add entries for the volumes as editions of their (English equivalent)? (For me personally the additional entries would be easier for putting my reviews with the right volumes)

#5 I know there is an extra topic for that, but as I'm already making a list, could please combine:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... with
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
and:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... with
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...

#6 A bit tidying up for Sean McMullen I guess:
-1 There is a stray edition for the Voyage of the Shadowmoon: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

-2 All the books are split into two volumes in German.
Voyage is therefore missing the link to the incomplete edition of: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
This would be the cover: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I...
It was published in 2006 by Heyne and has 352 pages.
The blurb could be:

-3 The second book Glass Dragons is split into Die Schlacht der Shadowmoon (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...) and Die Rache der Shadowmoon (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...) and . The first not being combined.

-4 Voidfarer was split into Der Geist der Shadowmoon (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... - cover: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I...) that exists as incomplete and uncombined edition and Die Legende der Shadowmoon, which doesn't exist in the database yet (http://www.amazon.de/Die-Mondwelten-S...

#7 For Elmar Bereuter's books:
-1 https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5... and https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... are the same book (Hexenhammer)

-2 Lichtfänger (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...) is missing a few details:
cover: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I...
400 pages
blurb:

This is quite a bit of stuff I noticed, but I just want to help improve the database.

Thanks for looking at it.

Z-squared | 8575 comments in future, i'd definitely advocate starting a new thread, and I'd start a new thread for EACH request. i'll try to look into these in the next day or so.

message 7: by Z-squared (new)

Z-squared | 8575 comments whew! i did #1 on your list. you're right, most of those were invalid duplicates. but it took FOREVER to find them all and do the merges. i'll get back to this list again tomorrow!

message 8: by Z-squared (new)

Z-squared | 8575 comments 2 done.

Re 3, I'd recommend reposting the request in a new thread. Maybe another librarian with more knowledge of Faust can help you, but I'm clueless.

RE 4, that particular ISBN is only associated with a 4-book bundle, so the record stays that way. That's how we treat omnibuses on GR, regardless of whether the books in them are available individually in a given language or not.

5 done.

Re 6.2, If the German editions have been split in two, then they should NOT be combined with the parent English versions. I have separated the German Moonworld saga books, as is consistent with GR policy.

I have created a separate series listing for the German translation here:

https://www.goodreads.com/series/1335...

7 done
