Sujani Koya | 8 comments Hi! There's this book on 4 teenagers in Uzbekistan two of whom are named Askar and Anzor that I read in 1992. There are these 4 schoolmates living their everyday lives on a hillside village. There's a mosque. This is an Islamic village as far as I remember. There's this girl who learns the violin and she falls ill and is visited by a classmate who stumbles on the name of a chord 'D minor' or so and amuses the girl. There is a bricklayer and one or more of the characters learn bricklaying. There are amazing illustrations in the book as well. There is a courtyard in a house and the bricklaying teacher tells them 'What good is a student who doesn't exceed the master?' A boy collects tulips from a faraway hill and gives them to a girl who's fascinated by them. Heart-warming story overall.
