SOLVED. YA Mystery - Kids try to solve mystery about a high school fire that happened years before they were born. Spoilers ahead. [s]

I read this book about 4-5 years ago. It's one of those elementary school level novels. The story basically starts with a group of kids (I remember it being 2 girls but I'm not sure), and I'm pretty sure they were middle/high schoolers. Anyway, they want to solve a mystery that happened a long time ago: a high school was burned down on the night of prom and a boy died in the fire. The kids follow a series of clues (they interview people that went to the school, etc.) The last person that they interview is the girlfriend of the boy that died. The accident happened a long time ago, so she is in a nursing home when the kids come to visit her.

(view spoiler)[She reveals that her boyfriend broke up with her before the prom and asked another girl out. She was angry at him, and decided to set fire to the school during the prom. She plans to trap her ex and his date so she will be stuck inside the school and be burned to death while everyone evacuates. The plan backfires, and instead, her ex gets stuck in the fire while his date escapes. She is devastated because she accidentally killed the person she loved, and she spends the rest of her life in misery.
She reveals to the children that she hasn't told anyone that she was the cause of the fire that night, and she says a quote that goes something along the lines of "Jealousy is the worst kind of evil" or "Revenge is the worst kind of darkness." The children finally know the truth of the accident, and the old lady dies a few days later. (hide spoiler)]

The plot for this book recently came to mind a few months ago, and I have been searching for it ever since. Thank you for the help!!
