FWIW, the tragedy in the Cay is that the ship that the little boy and his mom is on is hit by a torpedo - during WW2 and it sinks (IIRC)

Same here. But I think Friday saves his life...? At some point? But yeah, originally he does save Friday's.

All I really remember is what I’ve put in the title of this post, but I remember loving it so much. I think there’s some sort of tragedy in there, but I don’t know for certain. Also, perhaps it’s surviving on a boat in the middle of the ocean and not an island?
I really don’t have much, so this may be a wild goose chase.
