Hello! This is my first time participating in a read-a-thon and I am pretty excited!
Also, a little confused. Maybe it is because I am using my iPad, but I don't see the top shelves.
Anyway, I am an Occupational Therapist who lives in Indiana. I have a twelve year old son who loves to read, a husband who doesn't read much but an occasional history book, and a yellow lab who is really cute but too dumb to read.
Welcome Claire! Welcome Kathy! Just to clarify, Kathy, are you saying you don't see the top shelves for the book you're reading/wanting to read or you can't find the list of shelves we're playing the game with?
I can't see the shelves for the books. I use to see it, but it looks different now.
Hmm, not sure if that is an iPad thing or not? What book are you looking at?
I figured it out! When using safari, there is an option to "switch to desktop". That fixed it!Thanks!

Hi all I'm not a newbie but not sure I would make a good team captain either. so for this read-a-thon I want to knock off some of my books for the ATY challenge so to start I would like to read the following books

These are the three books I am likely to finish with all the possible tags though I may have missed some of the tags.

Hi everyone. After an initial run through the top shelves for the books I have on hand for this read-a-thon, I have determined that all of my books can fit into at least 10 shelves, and that the only type of shelf that I can't seem to fit are the Location Shelves , except Australia. So if any of you have books that fit there, shout them out because that looks to be the hardest shelf set (based on my limited experience of 12 books).
I volunteer as tribute!!!!!!( what the hell do I have to do?)
Very ambitious, Debra! I am going to try and get four books done this week which, for me, is a stretch. I will for sure be reading...

Thank you, Tracy! :DAll you need to do is sort of track the group's progress as we finish books. You can do that here in this topic or, in the past, people have made spreadsheets (if that's your thing). However you're most comfortable organizing is totally up to you. :)

Maybe we need to try and tackle the harder shelves first such as the location one than work to the easier ones. for exampleJill has the book Behold the Dreamers which is Africa
Jillian has the book Throne of Jade which is China
this is just a suggestion by no means am I telling people what to read
Emm - are the shelves worth different amounts of points? Once everyone checks in , I can sort out whose books we can use for what. I agree with the strategy of if you have a location shelf available we should definitely use it. Good teamwork so far 😊. Working off my app right now so I can’t see everything, but will check in tomorrow morning first thing online. I’m starting off with Starvation Heights since I’ll have at least 125 pages left tomorrow.
No point values, Tracy. The object of the game is to just to check off as many shelves as possible. The team who reads the most shelves will be the winner. There are 81 shelves and 12 of us. We would each have to read 6+ books to read every shelf which is not likely. It wasn't designed for teams to read all the shelves. :)So, yes, it is important to try and knock out some of the harder shelves if we can but I don't want everyone to panic or read books they have no desire to read just to squeeze in tougher shelves. Even if we all read 5 books this week (again, not likely) there would be 21 shelves that didn't get read.
So lets knock out the harder ones where/when we can and just have some fun! :D
I have some books on my ATY Challenge that would work for some of the harder shelves so I don't have a problem reading them to knock those out.
Perfect. I say we all check in with the books we think we can get done and what shelves they can be used for as people are already doing and we can puzzle it out from there.
For a separate challenge, I have to finish Dark Matter by January's end. But after I finish it, I'm open to reading something for a harder shelf. These are some possibilities for me. I underlined what I thought might be harder shelves.

I was going to try to finish The Girl Who Played with Fire tonight but I am only 70% done. I can stop reading now and finish it tomorrow. That way this book can cover the Europe location shelf.

Good morning Blue Team☀️What books are everyone starting today?
I'm finishing up Starvation Heights: A True Story of Murder and Malice in the Woods of the Pacific Northwest. I have 208 pages that I didn't get to last night. It's about the craziest thing I've ever read. I think I'm going to put it under the True-Crime shelf.

I started The House of Seven Gables last night, but it seems pretty slow. It would probably be the only book I read. So I am going to put it on hold for the time being and move on to the next 2 books on my list. Luckily, they are YA books that should go fast! I've just started Dracula, which I feel like I'm going to get through pretty quickly, and I also started listening to Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood yesterday, and am already a third of the way through, so I might tackle Mt. Ironing and finish that off this week. I'll check back in with usable shelves once I'm finished those!

Overdrive is out for me too! Boohoo, I was going to download an audiobook to listen to as I do some cooking/ meal prep. Maybe it will come back up soon.Esperanza Rising can be used for Mexico and the Plot to Kill Hitler for Geemany.

I really have no idea why I had it in my head that it started Friday. 🙄 Combination of bad eyesight and being non compos mentis - one or the other of those generally accounts for the majority of my failures.
I will finish Jane Eyre tomorrow. Have a birthday party for children in an hour, so will only be reading in a few hours again.

Jody- That is the version I am listening to. I don’t remember all the songs when I read it 10 years ago but they definitely stand out on the audiobook.
Today I will be finishing the last 195 pages of Something Rotten which can fit many shelves, but I think might be best for 'Favorite-Authors' which seems to be a rarer shelf.I'm also going to try to finish Twist of Faith which can fit any of the following: 'Currently-Reading', 'Mystery', 'Kindle', '2018', 'fiction', 'contemporary', 'have', 'favorite'
