The Gone But Not Forgotten RIP Thread

Loved that helicopter..but gee the acting was bad! JMV was okay though, as was the late Ernest Borgnine, i loved that cool helicopter as kid..and i dare say that programme had the coolest intro theme of all the '80's futuristic TV shows...yeh..even better than Knight Rider or that oddball motorbike one..whatever the heck it was called?!
RIP Jan-Micheal Vincent

Edit: i've just remembered..it was called StreetHawk. My brother liked that one, being the biker type that he is!
Those were the days...Airwolf, The A-Team, Cover Up, Chips, The Equaliser, TJ Hooker, Crazy Like A Fox, Dallas, Dynasty, The Colbys, Buck Rogers, Metal Mickey....

Cheers, Magnum PI, Moonlighting, Cagney & Lacey, The Dukes Of Hazzard, Charlie's Angels, Quantum Leap, The Scarecrow & Mrs King, The Golden Girls, Hill Street Blues, MacGyver, Happy Days, The Fall Guy ...

I always remember things like Dallas being on on a Wednesday night at 8, Dynasty on a Friday night at 8, Chips Saturday tea time, TJ Hooker or The Equaliser Saturday night at 8, Murder She Wrote Sunday teatime...
Of those mentioned, we only ever watched Cagney and Lacey. We liked The Rockford Files, Kojak, Starsky and Hutch, Columbo etc. But they were earlier.
Lez wrote: "Of those mentioned, we only ever watched Cagney and Lacey. We liked The Rockford Files, Kojak, Starsky and Hutch, Columbo etc. But they were earlier."I like Cagney and Lacey. And the catchy theme tune. I always thought Chris was really pretty. And she had that nice fur coat.
I think we missed a lot as we both had jobs where we didn’t get home till about 9.00 at least 2 nights a week. Sometimes we’d go for something to eat before going home. Better than the telly!
A restaurant or somewhere a bit less posh like the chippie, Lez? I haven't had a fish supper in ages. Or a hamburger supper. 🐷
Collette wrote: "A restaurant or somewhere a bit less posh like the chippie, Lez? I haven't had a fish supper in ages. Or a hamburger supper. 🐷"We liked an American diner place in Sheffield, great burgers etc. Nice atmosphere, decent music and friendly staff. There was a good Italian place as well. My library was a busy inner city one and J. had sometimes driven up to Aberdeen so we were both knackered and it was good to wind down.
That is a great theme tune but it didn't awake any memories for me so maybe "Airwolf" didn't get shown here. I too liked "Cagney & Lacey" and "The Rockford Files" - still watch the latter if I see it's on. We've recently watched some episodes of "Murder She Wrote" and "Quincy" - fun for the nostalgia element but they really haven't aged well. My kids always loved "MacGyver". It was always shown in the off-ratings period so that equated to the long school holidays over Christmas. They still associate "MacGyver" with long summer nights and being able to stay up later.
i was blissfully unaware of 'macguyver' until patti and selma's obsession on 'the simpsons' - watched an episode out of curiosity - shite, innit?
Tech wrote: "i was blissfully unaware of 'macguyver' until patti and selma's obsession on 'the simpsons' - watched an episode out of curiosity - shite, innit?"Isn't that the point? Some of those shows are shite, really, weighed down by low budgets and cheesy plots, which are often interchangeable from one show to another. It's probably one reason Star Wars had such an impact; on one level the scripting isn't much better than contemporary TV, but it had the budget to make it look fabulous.
Tech XXIII wrote: "i was blissfully unaware of 'macguyver' until patti and selma's obsession on 'the simpsons' - watched an episode out of curiosity - shite, innit?"Yep. You should try watching the A Team now, unwatchable.

To be fair, the A Team was always unwatchable, as were Dukes of Hazzard, Airwolf and Knight Rider. ;-) Bottom of the barrel were probably Planet of the Apes (a desperate attempt to cash in on the films before the franchise ran out of steam) and The Incredible Hulk (Lou Ferrigno was cool, but all the Hulk ever did was roar at people and throw furniture around).
Kung Fu was much better from my memories of it.
aye, but for 'kung fu', you had to watch 43 minutes of dreary story crap for the 2 minutes of the 'swedgin''for swedgin', ask johnny bee!

I thought Al Swedgin' was in Deadwood not Kung Fu ;-)

Don't tell me you never put half ping pong balls over your eyes, and went 'grasshopper' :-)
Happy to say I missed most of that 70's early evening TV, the trailers were bad enough. I must admit to watching the late night stuff, War Of The Worlds, V, Baretta, Barney Miller, Soap, Taxi, WKRP In Cincannati etc.

"Don't tell me you never put half ping pong balls over your eyes, and went 'grasshopper'" - Glasshoppaah, surely?
Might I suggest that if you wish to have an in depth discussion of crap TV shows you go to the TV section and start a new thread there. Then this thread can go back to it's original purpose.

Today's departure is Ranking Roger aka Roger Charlery, vocalist of The Beat.https://www.theguardian.com/music/201...
In tribute (and I apologise for Sir Lenny Henry's 'comedic' rasta wig and tam intro), possibly the Beat's and Ranking Rog's finest moment (she didn't however obey the call);https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-K6YW...

So sad to learn of Roger's awful health problems in the months before his death. More than any human should endure. RIP.

Agnès Varda, the iconic French Film-maker, died last night aged 90 as a result of complications due to Cancer. A true original from first to last she couldn't make it to the annual Oscar Nominee Luncheon in 2018 and so she sent a life-sized Cardboard Cut-out of herself to be posed alongside and photographed instead! ;o>Throughout her career Agnès won multiple awards including an honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival (making her the first woman to ever receive this distinction) and the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival.
It sounds like yet another heartbreakingly lonely and sad end to a life that was once so full of promise and potential and seemingly destined to be rather wonderful ;o<
Tech XXIII wrote: "hamsters of the world can now breathe easily again!"Funnily enough Techy, all I could think of when D told me the news this morning was that infamous headline "Freddie Starr Ate My Hamster!"
Which of course, was utter nonsense, cos he was a devout vegetarian since his teens.Max Clifford was responsible for that Hamster story...he even admitted it to being completely fabricated, but unapologetically said it did wonders for FS's career.
Meanwhile, poor Freddie was pig sick of passerbyers shouting out to him, "Oiy Freddie.....did you eat that hamster?!"
Freddie's early response was....."F**K OFF!" :)
Later on, he changed that refrain to "Give us a quid and i'll tell you"
If they did..he'd then reply...."NO!" ...and walk away, quid in pocket!
He was a funny man..but apparently very very difficult to work with. He was a musician in the '60's too, used to tour around with the Beatles, when he fronted a band called The Midnighters.
