It is amazing just how many folks start having health issues in their retirement, I wonder if the change in one's lifestyle, after retiring, has an contributing effect?
And yet..some folks never get 'ill' and lead a very long life. I knew a chap who used to come into my store every day, without fail. He smoked for 70 years, before giving up in his mid '90's. He had perfect sight, perfect hearing, sharp as tack, walked un aided...the guy was unbelievably 'fit' for his age. 'Time' eventually caught up with him, in the end, but he did live to the grand old age of....103!
He must have had some amazing genes, that all I can think of, to have lived so long, and with no major health complaints. He'd been retired for nearly 40 years, an all!
Earlier this year, an uncle of one of my mum's god-daughters disappeared. This week the police have arrested four people they suspect of murdering him, although no body has yet been found. I don't recall ever having met the victim, but my parents knew him. The case has made some of the papers, at least.If they're guilty, hope they'll go down for a long time.

Just found out Charles Nicholas Hodges, erstwhile partner of cockney rock duo Chas & Dave, had also died today, aged 74. Recently another sufferer of the big C, he died peacefully in sleep from organ failure following treatment for cancer.Now here's the spooky thing....my uncle who also died today...is also a Hodges & was also a born and bred East end Londoner .....unbelievable.
As far as I know, there's no relation between the two.

The much loved children presenter of the long running kids show Rainbow, Geoffrey Hayes, died today, aged 76, from Pneumonia, with his wife & son at his bedside.Trained as an actor, he had an recurring role in the TV show Z cars, then replaced David Cook, as presenter of Rainbow, in 1974 and stayed till the show's end in 1993.
After Rainbow was cancelled, Hayes struggled to find acting work there after, & initially took up a job stacking shelves in his local Sainbury's, before becoming a taxicab driver. He had appeared in television adverts, the odd music video, & occasional appearances on TV quiz shows, retiring a few years ago.

Jane was married to Rod....but got divorced in '79, 6 years later J & F got together. After 30 years in a relationship, they finally tied the knot in 2016. They're all still alive..as are most of the puppeteers and actors who played & voiced Zippy, George & Bungle.

Annapurna Devi, died 13th October 2018 aged 91Master of the surbahar (bass sitar), which she learned from her father. Devi married another of his students, Ravi Shankar, and for a time they performed together. Sadly, Ravi apparently got jealous that his wife received more more acclaim from the public, even though his was the more famous name. In 1956 Devi played for the last time in public to become the 'dutiful' wife. Ravi began seeing other women though, and eventually the marriage ended.
Devi continued to teach, but never resumed her performance career, which is sad. I'm not sure whether she made any recordings prior to her 'retirement'.

I watched a vid on youtube, lamenting that some social media trolls had begun accusing Stan of being racist and sexist (after his death mind, they wouldn't have the balls to do so when he was alive) because he had slapped down a suggestion that Spider Man should become black. And quite right too; why should his creation be used by someone else to push their own agenda. Stan also created Daredevil (who is blind) and Black Panther (who is err, black) amongst many others, so the idea that he's some white supremacist is risible.
But that's the way of SJW's; they don't have any talent to create their own characters and worlds (and they know that people who want to be entertained don't want identity politics shoved in their faces), so they just 'steal' the creations of better people than they, and alienate the audience.

Baroness Trumpington, aka Jean Alys Barker, died today aged 96. A Conservative politician & later a member of the House of Lords, she also worked in naval intelligence at Bletchley Park during the the war. Fluent in French and German, the then 18-year-old worked as a cypher clerk, transcribing messages from German submarines for code breakers. She's had a full and distinguished career, but the only thing i can remember of her, is that infamous V sign incident, she gave to Lord King of Bridgewater, after he referred to her advanced age in the House of Lords in 2011. A rebel to the last! :)
Another cancer death. On November 6th, Hugh McDowell, founder member of E.L.O. aged 65One of the band's cellists, McDowell departed along with Roy Wood when the singer left to form Wizzard. He returned in 1973 and was part of E.L.O.'s classic 70s line up.

I really don't like predicting imminent deaths - but? - I must admit that I was quite shocked to see Shane McGowan in his recent Wedding Photos. Yes, I know he never looks all that good and he hasn't looked well for some time - but he could barely register even the vaguest of smiles and looked so frail and so out of it that it made me wonder if getting married now was far more of a legal and financial security for his long term Partner and a Bucket List kind of a thing to cross off?
I do hope that I'm wrong to be thinking like this of anyone though ;o<

Yep, Shane isn't long for this world. To hear him speak it's evident he's suffering from alcoholic dementia. His wife is more his carer than anything else, so I guess she deserved to have the security of marriage and inheritance when he finally keels.

Thats the best John Lydon interview I've seen. He's as sharp as ever, but keeps the sarcasm in check. He brings up the subject of his weight gain, and talks about the stress in his life - 2 brothers with cancer, and his wife in the early stages of Alzheimer's, then, as the interviewer looks stricken, jokes that he's also a greedy bastard. He also talks seriously about the fact they don't have children.
