Where do I find the mini challenge info to see what's left? Still figuring everything out :)

message 252: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments I think Kaylee must give you access.
HERE's the link
There are tabs for each month where we fill in the books we've read. This is the list Kaylee picks from when she fill's out the captain's spread sheet.
There's also a tab for the February Mini challenge
We've finished the first part and are almost done with Part 2.
You can read about the challenge here:
February Mini Challenge
That page also contains all the books recomended by the teams. For part 2 we need to match our books to the once other teams recomended. But only 2 books from each team.

I'll get back in a minute to let you know which teams still have open slots, and which of your books I've matched.

MyzanM | 156 comments WHAT'S LEFT FOR FEBRUARY MINI:

We need to match one book each from the following teams:

Grus
Mercury
Venus
Andromeda
Triangulum

JanEyre, I've matched 4 of your books:

"The Chilbury Ladies' Choir" to "The Alice Network" - Team Musca - Both have airplanes in the upper right corner of the cover

"City of Thieves" to "The Book Thief" - Team Musca - Both are set during WW II

"Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" to Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda - Team Kuiper - both books have MCs that are boys in High School

"The Boy at the Top of the Mountain" to " The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" - Team Kuiper - Both books are about young boys during WW II

If you can find matches for your other books (must be started on or after the 14th) Just leave a comment here if you can't access the SS and fill it in yourself and someone will do it for you.

What we need is:
Which team it's for.
Your book.
The book you connect it to
The reason.

There are a few exceptions to how to match them. You can find those in the information in the first post of the Mini challenge.

JanEyre9 Awesome, thanks for the info Myzan! I'll go through and see if there are any other books that can be used.

MyzanM | 156 comments Kaylee
I've re-arranged a bit on the Spreadsheet. I moved one of my books and one of Shamber's to make place for JanEyre's "Fairest".
The changes are made to Mensa, Hydrus and Grus.

JanEyre
I've matched "Fairest" to "The Bear and the Nightingale" - Team Mensa - both are fairy tale retellings.

message 256: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 I'm looking to finish The Girl Who Drank the Moon tonight - could this be matched with Team Mercury's The Neverending Story as they both involve dragons and magic?

message 257: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Could Little House in the Big Woods (Little House, #1) by Laura Ingalls Wilder , read 2/22/18, be linked to Team Andromeda's The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood since they both show red clothing?

Marte - Thunderella | 38 comments I finished and updated the sheet:

Deal Maker by Lily Morton
Deal Maker by Lily Morton

2 - is book 2 in the series
3 - character with H: Henry

Marte - Thunderella | 38 comments Unfortunately, I had to remove my book Seven from the mini-challenge since I finished reading it before Feb 14-28. So it doesn't count according to the rules.

So we need one for team Pyxis too.

I just finished Deal Maker, and will try to match it with an open slot.

I added this to the sheet, let me know if you think it's not a good enough reason.

message 261: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 For Triangulum I just added Go Tell It on the Mountain and matched it to Buffalo Soldier as both book titles are also song titles.

Marte - Thunderella | 38 comments I moved Cruel Crown from team Triangulum to team Pyxis since it fitted both slots, and I'm reading a book that is matching one from Triangulum.

There's only two empty slots now:

Team Mercury
Team Venus

message 264: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments My current read will probably work with one of those. I’ll find the match.

Im also going to finish up the spreadsheet tonight :)

message 265: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments Snape A Definitive Reading by Lorrie Kim could possibly match The Good Daughter (The Good Daughter #1) by Karin Slaughter from Team Mercury. Both are silhouettes on the cover. Also, both discuss childhood trauma.

message 266: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments P.S. way to come through everyone! It didn't look like we would complete this month, but it looks like we are there! *high fives*

message 267: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments I've matched Not Your Fault by C. Young with Playing for Keeps (Neighbor from Hell, #1) by R.L. Mathewson on Team Venus. Both have couples embracing on the cover.
I've also changed my match for The Mistake to The Foxhole Court instead of Him in case we can't match the same book with different ones. I made a sidenote on the SS for that.

That leaves one slot on Team Mercury.

we can use this for the last slot on Mercury. :) I've added it, just put the date when you're finished so the points show.

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Hey Everybody! The official Spreadsheet is officially complete entirely! Woooooh! Im so proud of all of us oh my goodness.

Shamber, I put in the book I just finished for team Mercury on the Mini on the official. If/when you finish that before the end of the month, let me know and I will gladly change it! Just wanted something there so there wasn't one blank haha.

Again, super proud of all of us, We all read a ton; I read 6 books? I can't believe it honestly, with school and stuff. Super excited to continue the challenge next month! :)

message 273: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments Thanks Kaylee!

Since you worked another in, I will save Snape for a March completion.

Ready to take on March readings! :)

message 274: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments Gearing up...
No honestly. February was an insanely good reading month. I read a total of 36 books longer than 125 pages! That is way more than I usually read.
It'll probably be less this month.

message 275: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 This game is a lot of fun, I thiiiiink I've got a handle on it now. Where do you find the cards for March, do we know them already or do them come out tomorrow (3/1)?

I've posted the actual hands under the spoiler below if anyone wants to see them. They are not that important as such because Kaylee is the one who fits our books into the hands from the Team Spreadsheet.
She'll let us know closer to the end of the month if we need something specific.
So tomorrow we just have to post our books like this month and Kaylee will sort everything out for us!
Don't for get to check your books for the colored cards.
You can do that here:
https://labs.tineye.com/color/
Don't forget to uncheck the box for backgound or you might get a false read. If anyone needs help just holler and I'll try to help you as quick as possible.

Looks like all those dang Wild Draw 4s actually did us some good. Wooh!!

Marte - Thunderella | 38 comments Can the reverse card be any book ever that two members have read? Or does it have to be the month the challenge is for?

Marte - Thunderella | 38 comments This is for February, and it's in the February tab in the sheet, but I haven't posted it here until today.

Once Upon a Wolf
Once Upon A Wolf (Wayward Wolves, #1) by Rhys Ford

0 - character with Z: Zack Thomas
1 - title starting with O: Once Upon a Wolf

As far as I know it just have to be on a team member's "Read" shelf to count.

If everyone goes through the SS every now and then and fill in any books they have read then we dont have to go through each others shelves.

I have to admit I hardly posted any completions here. I just posted that I had updated the SS with new books and if there were any that fit a colored card.

Those who posted completions in the thread has mostly done it to get help filling in the SS when they haven't been able to do so themselves. Personally, I think it gets cluttered in the thread with a lot of completions. Important things might be drowned out by the completions.

Have you been comparing by peoples GoodReads profile? I wouldn't recommend that. It's not always reliable. If you have a lot of books in common GoodReads will show a selection of about 95 books. You and I have 366 books in common, some read, some TBR, but I only see 95 of those 366 books.
Helping each other out by checking what others have been reading and putting your own name on books you have already read will save time and effort.

Also i'm wondering about the books you put on the SS. Are those books you plan to re-read this month? Because a book has to have been read by someone this month to count.
If I go through the SS and see that Shamber is reading/ has read Me Before You and I've read it previously, I'll put my name in the Reverse column. I just have to make sure it is on my read shelf. I don't need to put it on my UNO shelf because I haven't read it this month.

message 296: by Marte - Thunderella (last edited Mar 01, 2018 04:44AM) (new)

Marte - Thunderella | 38 comments MyzanM wrote: "Also i'm wondering about the books you put on the SS. Are those books you plan to re-read this month? Because a book has to have been read by someone this month to count. "

That is what I was wondering about, and why I asked:
Marte - Thunderella wrote: "Can the reverse card be any book ever that two members have read? Or does it have to be the month the challenge is for?"

And Kaylee answered:
Kaylee wrote: "Reverses just have to be on the read shelf of a team member to count :) Everybody should fill in the Reverse slot if they see a book they have read."

So I've compared books, and found common read books that two team members have read and put in the sheet as reverse cards.

So what it correct? Books that have been read this month or ever? I feel I'm getting two different answers.

message 297: by MyzanM (last edited Mar 01, 2018 05:03AM) (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments You can find the reasonings for the cards if you go here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

For the explanation of Reverse it says:
Reverse
One member of your team must read a book another team member has already read

And the example shows that the book must be read during the challenge (and the current month). It can have been read by another team member at anytime as long as it is on their Read shelf.

As for Kaylees answer, I think she meant if you see a book in our spreadsheet that someone else read during this month that you've previously read, then you should put your name in the reverse column. And that is all it takes for it to count for reverse.

It would be a bit too easy to just compare books. You and I could easily fill all the reverse slots between the two of us! ;-)
But I did see a couple of books on my TBR that you've read so might try to get to some of them this month.

I really hope this makes sense to you!

Marte - Thunderella | 38 comments It's starting too. LOL :)

I would think it depends on how long the paper version of the audiobook is.
