Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments Team Pluto has a lot of good books listed too.

message 152: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments Yes they do! I read The Butterfly Garden (The Collector #1) by Dot Hutchison and loved it.

message 154: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments I just finished Prince Caspian (The Chronicles of Narnia, #4) by C.S. Lewis .

On to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Chronicles of Narnia, #5) by C.S. Lewis .

message 155: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments So in the first part we need to choose 3 teams and read 2 books from each list.

Shamber suggested Team Haumea. She could read a Narnia book.
Link to the Haumea post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Rachel suggested Team Pluto.
Link to the Pluto post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Personally I liked Team Sculptors books. There were several on there I could do.
Link to the Sculptors post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I am flexible and found books on every list that I could read so we don't necessarily have to choose my suggestion.

I don’t think the second part is going to be that hard. If everyone look at the remaining lists and compare to what they are reading. I bet we can find some books to connect to. All lists are pretty diverse.

message 156: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments I borrowed a book off of Team pluto's list from the library. World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks I will get cracking asap. I'm reading so many books at once because the library keeps taking them back before I am done with them... :( I either have no books or they give me 4 books at once.

message 157: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Sorry for my absence guys! I’ll take a look at the teams books but you guys seem to have that figured out! :)

message 158: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments I’m reading The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate (Calpurnia Tate, #1) by Jacqueline Kelly from Team Sculptors list.
It’ll also work for our Yellow 2.
I hope I didn’t misunderstand that we could use the mini challenge books for UNO as well.

message 159: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments I was just looking at our official spreadsheet and it says I've read 0 books. Did I mess something up?

Have you put your books on your UNO shelf?

Shamber | 151 comments thanks Kaylee!

message 165: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Yep! Now Im going to work on setting something up on our little spreadsheet for the MiNi challenge :)

message 166: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Ha! Im already having to read Animal Farm for school this month so I can take that for the mini-challenge from team Sculptors. I also added a little thing to our spreadsheet for the mini-challenge, so you guys can check that out!

message 167: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments I’ve finished The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate for the mini-challenge (Team Sculptors)
I’ll post a proper completion later today and make sure to post in their thread as well.

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 871 comments Hi Team Carina! Thanks to whoever recommended The Stand. I had just purchased the audible version so I took this chance to listen to that production. It was AWESOME! There was extra content that the author had left out of his original version, which added more backstory to some of the MCs (Fran, Larry, Trashcan Man, Stu). I loved it! So thanks again!

message 169: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments I didn't recommend the stand but it is one of my favorites too. I really enjoy audio books read by their authors!!

That was me - so glad you liked it. There are two versions, the cut and uncut and i own both but prefer the uncut! If you like that one try Under the Dome

MyzanM | 156 comments Fiona wrote: "I’ve just picked up Neverwhere, one of my favourites so I’ll reread that which is on Team Sculptors list"

Check with Kaylee first she wrote she’d read Animal Farm from that list and we can only read 2 books from the 3 lists picked.

message 174: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments @Kaylee
I just checked the spreadsheet and there has been a fourth team added to the first part of the mini- challenge.
We can only use 3 teams for that part. So one of them has to be dropped. I suggest either Team Pluto or Team Musca as there has only been one book picked of either of those lists.
Either way there needs to be one more book picked from the list that we keep to get maximum points from part one.

After that we can start reading/ searching for connections on the other lists.

message 175: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments I didn’t add the fourth option. We can delete either team with one option once one of them has finished I guess?

message 176: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments I’m currently reading The Consumption of Magic for another challenge and realized the first book in the series The Lightning-Struck Heart is on Team Pluto’s list so I’ve put that on the SS.

I’m currently going through the books I’ve read since the mini-challenge started to see if I have anything that fits part 2.

message 177: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments I’ve posted my comment for The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate in Team Sculptor’s thread.
The link to my post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I’ve added it to the spreadsheet too. It also fits Yellow 2 which we need.

Aricia (autumnaleaves) | 104 comments Hi Team Carina, this is Aricia from Team Milky Way. I would like to thank y'all for your recommendation of The Girl With All the Gifts! I've never really been into the whole "apocalypse" thing, but I really liked--at least from my limited knowledge--the subverted tropes and the unexpected ending. I will definitely be checking out The Boy on the Bridge if I can get my hands on it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! It was one of the best books i read in 2016.
I don't normally read horror or thrillers but The Girl With All the Gifts just hooked me in and kept me going. I'm still thinking about it and recommending it to everyone.
The Boy on the Bridge is in my opinion not as good, it's a bit slower, but still a 5 star read.

message 180: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments I've finished The Lightning Thief. I updated the sheet.

Almost done with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Then I think I will read Cruel Crown since it's so short. I should be able to finish it by the end of Feb too.

Happy reading Team Carina.

message 181: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments I've finished The Consumption of Magic (substitution to The Lightning-Struck Heart) and updated the February Mini SS. I just need to post to team Pluto's thread.
I'll post it in the February SS when I've looked through which cards it fits.

Tomorrow I'll go through the books I've read since the mini-challenge started and see if I can connect them to any of the books other teams recommended.

We only have until Sunday so I suggest everyone else does that too. I spoke to a friend on another team today and she said they had done almost half of the books/teams.

message 182: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments and now I've finished The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I added my comment on Team Haumea's discussion for the mini-challenge here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....

Also, for mini-challenge part 2 I added how The Lightning Thief can be connected to The Song of Achilles via Team Hydrus (both main characters are from mythology) OR Storm Front via Team Grus (both have lightning on the cover).

message 183: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments I finished Believe Me: A Memoir of Love, Death, and Jazz Chickens and World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War I will post on Team Pluto's thread shortly.

As for part 2, someone tell me what to read and I will read it. I cannot make a connection to/between any books (perhaps it is too early here).

Hi Rachel! I saw you are reading Murder on the Orient Express - you could maybe connect that to Team Jupiter's suggestion of The Girl on the Train - both are set on traveling trains, right?

Hope this helps! :)

message 187: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments you're welcome!

It looks we still have a lot of reading on our hands to finish up February's challenge.

message 188: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments Finished with Cruel Crown. Works for:

"2 / T / book 2" - Tiberias - character,
"4 / F /book 4" - Farley - character,
"7 / V / book 7" - Victoria - author,
"9 / N / book 9" - Norta - location

updated mini challenge section also.

message 189: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments I've never read A Wrinkle in Time. Is it too late for me?

message 190: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments I dont think so! Give it a try, might bring about some nostalgia.

message 191: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Hey guys! Updated the spreadsheet and posted on the Captains group about our missing members. Double check to see if everything is accurate on the official spread! Thanks!

message 192: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments I was trying to come up with a way to make it easier for us to see what else we need for the mini-challenge when I had a Duh-moment...
(Ok, I was bored waiting for my tablet to charge so could go back to reading...)

I simply copied the whole page from the captains spreadsheet and put all the information we have so far into it. I think it might even make it easier for Kaylee to just copy and paste the information when filling out the captains SS.
I pasted the page into the Team SS and named it Feb Mini 2. I hope this won't make you too confused...

For Part 2. Shamber had books with multiple options. I just picked the first one then typed the other options in the next available cell to the right. That way we have the information at hand if we need to move them later.

Kaylee, you signed up for Animal Farm on Part 1. We could use one of my Elle Kennedy books for that slot if needed. I'm going to put them in part 2 for now.

My next step will be to go through all the books I've read and make sure they are all on the SS for UNO. I realized some were not. Then I'll try to match all of them with books for part 2. I think that I've read 13 books since the 14th. If i can match them all we don't have that much left.
I can't believe I've read this much this month... On the other hand I've been home 2 weeks when the flu made it's rounds through the family and this week is school break, giving me time off from work.

message 193: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Yeah you've read a lot this month! Its pretty awesome, I wish I could say the same!

As for the spreadsheet thing, thank you! Im dumb and didnt think of that before.

Im starting Animal Farm now, it shouldn't take too long, I can get through it today and tomorrow.

I hope you and your family are feeling better! Happy reading!

You're certainly not dumb for not thinking about it. I spent almost 2 hours trying to make a SS that would work slightly better than the one we had flipping back and forward between the sheets trying to manually copy everything when I realized how stupid i was being. I simply used Ctrl+A then Ctrl+V and...problem solved.

I use Spreadsheets a lot at work. Nothing fancy, but I depend on them to make my work smooth and less time consuming. I just thought the old one didn't do that for you as captain

Do you want us to use the page I created? In that case we might want to delete the other one to minimize confusion.

message 195: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Yeah go ahead and delete the other one. Im not super experienced with spreadsheets, I just made it quickly so there was something :). Thanks again!!

message 196: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments Thanks SO much MyzanM! I will look into my reading options to help fill in some hands.

Also - great job on all of the reading. I hope you are feeling better!

I'm glad you liked it! If you liked the world building in this one you should try The Boy on the Bridge. It's set in the same world, but not with the same characters. I really liked that one too, but it is a bit slower.

message 200: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments Hi team! I can try to read Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt by the end of Feb to complete the yellow 2 task on hand eight. It's over 100 pages & 25,000 words. I think it should count. Please let me know if not - thanks!
