I've been enjoying the sun, reading on my kindle. Also doing house work while listening to audio books. :D

MyzanM | 156 comments I've had a wonderful family weekend. Not much reading going on, but lots of time outside. You have to take advantage of the nice days.

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments For sure! It was snowing here last week and it got above 80°F here this weekend. Crazy weather!

JanEyre9 The Terrible Thing That Happened to Barnaby Brocket by John Boyne

Do you think this book works for "predominant sky on the cover" for the mini-challenge?

I think it does.

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments I am going to a booksale on saturday. I am looking for Inkheart (500 plus pages). I can read that for the mini unless someone has something else on their tbr they can read faster.

Nice! Hope you find it :)

JanEyre9 Do you guys think Stars Above can be used for a book set in space? It's a compilation of 9 stories related to The Lunar Chronicles and some of the stories take place on the moon and in space but some take place on earth.

message 510: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Honestly Im not sure. Would you like me to take it to the captains chat? I assume it fits

message 511: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Thanks Kaylee, if you could check that'd be great!

Me too. I kind of half watched the movie and really liked it.

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments Do the covers need to be identical for the silly two books with the same cover task? Can they be similar? I'm stumped with that one.

Shamber | 151 comments Rachel wrote: "Do the covers need to be identical for the silly two books with the same cover task? Can they be similar? I'm stumped with that one."

That one is tough!

message 515: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Yeah that's a little obscure. I would think similar, like both have someone standing so we only see their backs or both have a plate of food, etc.

message 516: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments Anyone have a two back suggestion to go with Before We Were Yours? Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate

message 517: by JanEyre9 (last edited Apr 18, 2018 08:43AM) (new)

JanEyre9 This was harder than I expected - so many book covers have one person standing with their back to us but two isn't an common. I found 3 covers but two of them include a dog -not sure they'd apply

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry by Fredrik Backman
The Luster of Lost Things by Sophie Chen Keller

Oh I just found a list under the Browse menu called With Their Backs to the Reader. Maybe check that? From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg sounds interesting and is only 125 pages!

message 518: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments Kaylee do you think this is ok? Similar cover? I can get my grandmother... from the library. So if that works I will read it next.

message 520: by Kaylee (last edited Apr 18, 2018 09:40AM) (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments upon investigation, the "read two books with the same cover" Have to be identical. The lists Marte linked are good lists to find those. I didn't realize people do that?

Marte - Thunderella | 38 comments There are lists for all sorts of things! Best of in genres, covers, new releases, settings etc. You can make your own lists or look at others. You can vote for books in a list too. Lists can be great way to find your next read.

message 522: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Haha, sorry Marte, I meant use the same picture in different book covers. You’re right though, lists are super useful!!!

message 523: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments Ok I can take one of the same cover tasks with Slade House by David Mitchell (which I recently bought) and Edgar and Lucy by Victor Lodato (which my library has).

message 524: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments I'm shocked there are so many with the same cover! Hopefully the books are good.

message 525: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Rachel wrote: "I'm shocked there are so many with the same cover! Hopefully the books are good."

So am I! I never would have noticed it without those lists!

I added Stars Above on the spreadsheet for the book that takes place in space - I'll take it out if Kaylee finds out it doesn't apply.

Marte - Thunderella | 38 comments Kaylee wrote: "Haha, sorry Marte, I meant use the same picture in different book covers. You’re right though, lists are super useful!!!"

Oh right! Lol

Authors can by cover rights for these photos and use them for their books. I don't think they're too expensive either. So the pictures get used again and again.

message 527: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Rachel I dont know that those are the same picture :((

Not close enough? It resembles a picture from a scanning electron microscope. Can we ask the powers that be?

MyzanM | 156 comments Rachel wrote: "Ok I can take one of the same cover tasks with Slade House by David Mitchell (which I recently bought) and Edgar and Lucy by Victor Lodato (which my library has)."

We’re there two of those? I thought it was one line for each book.
Are you comfortable reading those? I saw the second one was over 500 which can be a pain if you're not into the book.

message 530: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments I’m sorry I’m a bit absent. My allergies are hitting me hard. I eat, work, read and sleep.... I’ll try to update my books during the day tomorrow.

message 531: by Kaylee (new)

Oh awesome, I misunderstood. Supposedly its a good book? I can do it unless someone sees something up their alley.

message 533: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Rachel, they have to be the same picture :(((. I saw some on those lists Id be willing to read but the pair to it wasnt in my access! Ugh!

message 534: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments I could do half of the task with Kissing Zombies by Richard Paul Denney if someone can do Handling the Undead by John Ajvide Lindqvist . I read that one last year and it was good. Nothing gory, but still had my heart beating hard. It’s by the author of Let the Right One In.

message 535: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Rot & Ruin also uses the same picture as that one

message 536: by MyzanM (new)

MyzanM | 156 comments My books are updated in the SS.

message 537: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments I can do rot and ruin.

message 538: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments My library doesn't have Handling the Undead by John Ajvide Lindqvist

message 539: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Eek, only 10 days left in the month!! I'm trying to look now to see how we're doing with the colored cards - we definitely need some yellow and I think red and blue. I'm going to look up yellow books right now.

message 540: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (stillchasethewind) | 452 comments Not to date myself but were any of you guys fans of Christopher Pike's late 80s and 90s YA books? I don't know what brought him to mind but I loved his books. I think I may try to tackle a few for the end of the reading challenge. ::nostalgia::

message 541: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Hmm, I don't remember Christopher Pike, was he similar to RL Stine?

I am going to read Swing Time by Zadie Smith for one of the Yellow 6 cards we still need

Yes their books were popular at the same time, but Christopher Pike's were more science fiction-y than R.L. Stine's.

MyzanM | 156 comments I went through our colored cards and paired them up with the books we've read so far.

The colored cards we still need are:
Yellow 6 - JanEyre9 - Swing Time
Yellow 6 - MyzanM - Stuff I've Been Reading
Red 0 or 5 or 9 JanEyre9 - Ginny Moon
Red 6
Red 7

message 544: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 I'm going to read Ginny Moon by Benjamin Ludwig . It can apply to red 0 or I'll see if it can apply to another red number card.

message 545: by JanEyre9 (new)

JanEyre9 Kaylee - did you find out yet if Stars Above works for a book set in space? I think it applies but don't want to take time to read it now if it won't help the mini challenge.

message 546: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments Im sorry I spaced that!! I’ll ask now.

Marte - Thunderella | 38 comments When will the books go into the team spread sheet? I'll be much easier to see what cards we're missing.

message 549: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments I’ll do that today :)

message 550: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee Wilson | 621 comments The spreadsheet is partially updated; we had some power issues in my house yesterday so I wasn't able to finish it all lol. Doing that now.

Im also highlighting all of the cards that we have done in the "April UNO cards" tab of the spreadsheet a bright green. :)
