Searabbits | 54 comments Hiya all that may help me :)

This is a book series - where a boy (child/teen?) ends up unintentionally transported to another world. He ends up on this pirate ship type boat (frigate?). The captain and crew are mystified/unhappy about how he came aboard - think he's a stowaway. There's a crew member called Little X (John?) who is a huge fellow. (Possible another crew member who's the reverse.) [Things happen. I assume he get's back home somehow. - because each book is him ending up back in the world.. I think >.>]

In potentially another book in the series - the boy ends up attacked by a gang in the fantasy world - and is transported back to his world badly beaten. His parents find him and he ends up in the hospital/talking to police. Police are trying to figure out if the - Wolves? - is a new gang they need to know about (they don't realize he was attacked in another world.)

I think the boy's father/uncle may have also traveled to the same world in the past.

I believe I read these in the late 90s. Around the same time Gillian Cross's Demon Headmaster series had 4-5 books so 1997~?

Searabbits, are there fantastical characters or creatures in the story? Does anyone has special/magical powers?

How does the boy get transported to the fantasy world? Where was he and what was he doing when this happened?

Where does he live - country, region, big city/small town?

What is his father's job?

Searabbits | 54 comments Hey guys,

Thanks for the ideas - it's not the Grey Griffin series - It doesn't sound familiar and was written about 5+ years after the time period I'm looking for.
The problem with trying to recall memories from 20 years ago is that I can say - hey this is what my library looked like where I got them from - but I can't grab more details about the actual books themselves.
But let's try anyway :) .. I have no clue how the kid got to the other world. The kid was just as surprised as me that he was elsewhere. [so no useful narrowing it down clues - nor can I say what he was doing prior. He ended up on a ship. That was more pertinent in my memory].
Where does he live? Pass. Probably urban. Parents don't know he's doing this. I assume there's two parents. There may be one.
Father's job? Not a clue. I'm really not providing much help.

Other maybe useful info - author may be from later in the alphabet [S?] (trying to recall which shelf end I used to pick the books from). There were a series - 3+ books. So no trilogies - more like the Famous Five books where each book can stand alone kinda.

Searabbits | 54 comments I found it! It's the Buccaneers and New Buccaneers series by Sheila K McCullagh

If only I had focused on the ship side of things - the whole series is about the pirate ship he lands on initially. Oh brain why were you not helpful about remembering that. At least I got that the people who attacked him were Wolves... well Wolf Men - but pretty close!
