I read this one in middle school, I think, so in the mid-early 1980s, I believe. I believe the protagonist was in high school - perhaps college? He had two first names, and he was somehow accidentally registered in school under both orders of his name (like Mark Scott and Scott Mark, or Henry James and James Henry) so he doubled up on all of his classes so he could graduate twice as fast. I remember he hired someone to sit in one class wearing a baseball cap since the teacher was not observant and would only remember that he was the guy in the hat, so he could show up for the exam, or something.
