Chantelle-emma Hilton (chann3rz) | 82 comments Good Morning All

I am currently recovering from Hip Replacement surgery and looking to beta some YA, romance or second chance novels if any requires one?

I am able to complete up to 10,000 words in 48 hours and have a fast reading speed with great attention to detail.

I have been proofreading, editing, beta reading and providing feedback on various types of written work for the past 10 years and even write novels, blogs and articles myself with some being published in online publications.

Regards, Chantelle

Lara (gurlwhowrites) | 19 comments Good morning Chantelle!

Hope you have a speedy recovery!

I have a YA you might be interested in, it has romance, however it is not primarily romance as a genre, and deals with themes of prejudice, loyalty, and sacrifice. It revolves primarily around a city that is divided amongst its people, and a communications agent who gets caught up in plots much bigger than herself when she tries to bridge the divide.

If you'd be interested in this, even though it is not primarily romance, feel free to send me a dm!

All the best,
Lara

J (iamjwang) | 5 comments Hi Chantelle! All the best with your post-surgery recovery.

I'd be honored to have your feedback on my book Counterclockwise (target of 70k words, currently rewritten/revised through 55k). I’d categorize it as a YA contemporary romance. It explores themes of lingering grief and learning to move on. Please find my blurb below, for your consideration:

Alison Chang said goodbye to figure skating, her first love, shortly after her dad passed away, and she's content to leave for college in the fall without ever putting her skates on again. This summer is all about making money for textbooks and making the most of her time with her mom, before the latter's co-worker Gary can become the center of her attention. Her ex Jeremy's return from la-la land, where he'd spent the past few years training and competing on a pairs team with another girl, was not part of the equation. He just won't let Alison forget what she felt for the ice, and maybe for him, too, as much as she knows they could come apart again.

Inspired by: Sarah Dessen, Jenny Han, Jandy Nelson

If this is something you're interested in, let me know here or via dm, and we can discuss further (logistics, format, etc.). Thank you!

Kirk | 128 comments Hi Chantelle,

Hope the hip is okay!

I'm currently looking for a critique partner/beta reader, and I came across this post. My completed manuscript is sitting at around 90k words (although I hope to chop that down) and it's a dystopian sci-fi story. Here's a (very) rough placeholder blurb:

"The world has reached new levels of mass overpopulation, and as the number of people continues to grow, the food supplies reach a critical low. When a corporation offers a solution to the epidemic, the world turns a blind eye to what it is they're really consuming, posing the question; what lengths will humanity go to to survive?"

It sounds very Solent Green-ish, but I think (or hope) I have an original story.

For anyone else reading this who happens to be looking for a critique partner, genres I enjoy are:

Children's
Crime
Fantasy
Horror
Mystery
Science Fiction
Thriller
Young adult

I'm not too keen on romance or erotica, so I don't feel like I could give an accurate critique if that's your genre.

Private message me if you're interested.

I hope to hear from you.

All the best,

Kirk.

Hi, I hope your recovery goes well. I would be very grateful for your services. I have completed my story at 62,477-words in the genre YA Fantasy. The Chronicles of the Fallen by Brenda Gooding. Here is a little about the book.
Riley's world is turned upside down when she finds out she has magical abilities, there is a ghost trying to contact her, and she must go to the land of Fairy to ask for help from a grandfather she has never met. While she is there she bonds with Kalen who becomes part of her band of misfit warriors and discovers a prophecy that seems to be pointing directly at her. While learning to use the magic she has just discovered, she must face woars, water sprites, witches, plants that spit acid, and evil mindwielders, if she is to save her family and defeat the evil around her she must embrace the truth of the prophecy and become the warrior princess she was born to be.

Emily Grandy | 25 comments Hi Chantelle,

I'm looking for a beta willing to read a 101k YA novel set in modern-day urban London. The story has limited dystopian/fantasy elements with sciencey and bookish themes throughout. The cast is lead by clever, independent female leads. The characters are on the older side for YA - 17 to late 20s - dealing with regular issues like jobs and relationships while in the background bigger, stranger things are in the works.

The book may be on the long side for YA fiction so I'd like help condensing it. I'd also like someone to read for consistency. Characterization is a big one for me, so helping to make sure my characters remain 'real' and interesting from beginning to end would be fantastic. If you're keen on checking it out, please feel free to contact me at emily3242@gmail.com

Thanks!
Emily

Laynie (layniewrites) | 13 comments Hi Chantelle,

I have a 60k YA/NA Romance that is ready for beta readers if you are interested. If it sounds like a good fit you can message me here or at LaynieWrites@gmail.com. I've got the word, PDF, and MOBI formats available to send over.

Adeline Evans is your typical, bored, high school senior obsessed with a celebrity she knows she will never meet. When her best friend drags her to a music festival her world gets turned upside down as Jude Blair, himself, is drawn to her. But is Addie ready to deal with the complications and drama that comes with dating someone so famous? From paparazzi to a scheming ex-girlfriend, it seems everyone is out to come in between Addie and the man she has wished to be with for so long. Things come to a climatic head thousands of miles away from her comfort zone when she makes a choice to visit him at home in England and finds herself struggling with anxiety and insecurities that threaten to ruin her perfect love story. A diverse cast of characters supports Addie through her journey to becoming a woman, whatever shape that may take.

There's a lot of dancing, carnival, Ayahusaca, mystical rituals, New Age concepts and funny culture differences. If that sounds interesting to you, hit me on kamileon.writer@gmail.com. Get better soon, Dear!

Bree Verity (breeverity) | 30 comments Hi Chantelle

Hope you are recovering nicely from the hip replacement - everyone I know who has had one (and there are a few!!) says it was the best thing they ever did... :-)

My historical romance novel is 50K, entitled The Scandalous Widow:

Adventure, intrigue and romance combine in this sparkling tale of espionage and rescue.
Young widow Lady Juliet Hampshire jumps at the chance to be involved in an espionage mission into France – she will do anything to avoid having to think about her dwindling finances and the necessity of catching a wealthy husband. It is just a shame that her traveling companion is to be the stuffy, snobby Lord Alistair Chisholm. But there is more to the wounded Lord Chisholm than Juliet can see.
Alistair has been chasing redemption for years, ever since he accidentally killed his older brother in a drunken brawl. Now the heir to his father’s Marquessate, he should be staying at home, finding a wife and siring children, but he can’t rest until he atones for his grievous sin. And as an experienced spy, he can’t understand why the untried, scandalous Lady Hampshire is involved in his mission.
Thrown together and required to work closely, they quickly realize their first impressions of each other are mistaken, and passion flares between them, with both of them assuring the other the liaison will cease when they return to London.
But when first one and then the other falls in love, can they overcome injury, familiar strangers, capture and the deepest of betrayal in order to claim their happily ever after?

If you are interested, please do contact me via DM or by email on breeverityauthor@gmail.com

Thanks so much for the opportunity.

Bree

Klaudia Balagová | 2 comments Hi Chantelle!

I hope you will be back to your healthy-self soon :)

I finished first draft of my novel and need someone to look over it, preferably a professional as English is not my first language and from what I've been told by one of my betareaders, it is obvious from how I write.
Having the book in my head for about 4 years now, it's hard for me to identify problems and exe chapters or characters that I’ve grown attached to. I need another set of eyes to read what I wrote.
Not to bore you any further, here is a synopsis of my book, Remnant, app. 100k words, NA/YA dystopia.

Scarmouth. Nameless. Romy.

She is each and none of them.

Growing up in Citadel halls, she is one of many who were casted away for not being resistant to sickness that swept the world centuries ago. As a baby brought to Depot, a city of metal, ash snow and orange sky, she was the youngest child the city ever remembers. Eli’s only friend, both alienated from the others by their birth, his immune blood and her curse of a scar. He is the one they look up to, who they pray to, to give them a better future, to make everyone believe in the worth of their lives. She, someone who sees that burden for what it is, will have to search where are her limits are when it comes to people she loves.

My email is klaudia.balagova@gmail.com if you are interested.

Have a nice day!
Best Regards,
Klaudia

Christine Alexandria (christinealexandria) | 25 comments Hi Chantelle,

I recently finished writing my 85K "Rise of the Phoenix" manuscript. I am looking for beta readers to give me honest feedback on it. I would appreciate any positive or negative thoughts, comments and suggestions.

My book is a mix of YA and fantasy. The book follows Dawn, a magus who has been on the run for the last eight years as she is forced to return home early and face the world she left behind. Dawn is different from the rest of the Magi because the strength of her magic is not confined to the day or night. She is the answer to an ancient prophecy that speaks of a time when evil will try to once again destroy all of humanity and only a decedent of the Lost One can stop it. With the help of her best friend from childhood and a team of Grigori guardians Dawn must try find answers in a world she barely knows anymore while learning how to use the powers she denied for years.

If my book sounds like something you would be interested in please let me know. You can email me at anglegrl39@gmail.com or you can message me on here.

Sincerely,
Christine

Goodness Nwankpa (goodnessnwankpa) | 44 comments Hi Chantelle!

First and foremost, I hope that your recovery has been successful.

Second, if you're still accepting books to beta read, I have 57,000 word contemporary YA story that’s in need of a beta's critical eyes (Warning: it deals with sensitive topics and can get dark at times). I have made some previous changes based on feedback provided by prior betas, but my manuscript is still in need of a fresh pair of eyes with a different perspective.

My story is not a thriller (I tend to focus more on the emotional aspect of things than the action), but I still want to make sure it’s an engaging read that’s capable of holding readers’ attention.

I have included the synopsis below so you can get an idea if it’s something that you’re interested in. Thank you for your time.

Synopsis:

Fourteen year old Alina thought that above all, she could trust Gaten. He’s been her rock since tragedy befell her three long years ago. But one day, she finds a letter; a letter is all it takes for Alina’s world to once again dismantle before her eyes. And suddenly, she’s thrown into doubt about the one individual she believed that she could rely on. In a desperate bid for answers, Alina decides to take matters into her own hands. The life altering consequences are ones that she did not anticipate.

Once again, thank you for your time.

J.E. (johnmullane) | 5 comments Hi Chantelle,

I've had a couple colleagues navigate hip replacements and not only are they functioning well, they both feel better than ever. I hope your recovery follows suit.

How far are you willing to go "make right" a wrong that was committed against the friend you love more than any other? That question is at the heart of a this 74,000 word YA novel. Kris is intelligent beyond her years with an uncanny ability to manipulate others, Annie is following in the hippie footprints of her mother, Tom is the golden girl, rich, beautiful, athletic. A violent act is committed against one of them.

Instead of simply offering love and comfort at this awful time, what more can a girl do to avenge this attack against her closest friend? How far should she go? How far does she choose to go? And what does this act of retaliation make her?

This is a novel with strong female characters and an empowering message.

Thanks! Let me know if you're interested.

Dave Anderson | 54 comments Chantelle,

I have a short 70,000 word novel you may be interested in.
The title is based on a 10 year old boys biggest fears.
When we hear about kids like Cody Chandler, all but the most cold-hearted of us sympathize.
Some of us may offer their prayers, but once we’re over the initial shock, most of us will forget about them in a couple of days.
We don’t like to dwell on child abuse, so stories like Cody’s sink deep in our subconscious and make us feel subtly grateful for our more fortunate births.

Having suffered physical, emotional, and sexual abuse by the time he was eleven, Cody has experienced life in ways few would envy.
But instead of being crushed by his experiences, he rises above his circumstance through an incredible act of sacrifice he hopes will free him from the ghosts who haunt him.
When Cody is forced to examine the impact abuse has had on his life, he must decide how much of his past he can safely reveal.
While revealing his deepest childhood secret might be healing, it might also be his undoing.

Elaine Marsh (ekmarsh) | 22 comments Hello, Chantelle! I imagine that by now you are well recovered from your surgery, but wonder if you might have any interest in reading my MS finished at 95,000 words? King of the Buckaroo Boys is the second book in a series featuring protagonist Charlie King (the first book, King of Hollywood, is unavailable for reading due to ongoing rewrites). Here's the blurb:

Grinding out serial Westerns and cut rate gangster films in late 1930s Hollywood, Clarion Pictures is a studio not quite on Poverty Row, but definitely in an adjacent neighborhood. When a cache of jewelry and cash goes missing from Clarion’s safe, studio boss Cornelius Klinker calls on his nephew, bit actor Charlie King, to investigate. In spite of being a devotee of hard-boiled crime fiction, Charlie is reluctant to play detective himself…until his uncle dangles a prime role under his nose and Charlie finds himself knee deep in the search for the culprit.

It’s a mystery that would challenge even his PI heroes, but then Sam Spade probably never had to contend with the loopy assortment of friends and family that distract Charlie from his investigation. Whether he’s trying to shield his beloved mother from the advances of a shady German industrialist, reunite a pair of broken hearted friends, or protect his naïve cousin from a conniving platinum blonde, there’s no lack of complications to frustrate and bewilder the good-hearted Charlie. Throw in a child star with a penchant for mayhem, an obsessive, lovesick dog and the unwanted attentions of a sexpot starlet, and it’s no wonder that Charlie finds it so difficult to focus on the case at hand. With his uncle’s deadline looming and scant clues to be had, can Charlie recover the stolen loot and nab the breakthrough role he’s been waiting for?

Just looking for general feedback, and especially notes on structure. If you're interested, shoot me an email and I'll send you the MS.
