Been running a little behind, but now that my book group is done for the month, hopefully I can knock out some of my BRs

To Chapter 8
Okay, this book is starting out goood! Very familiar, even typical setting: poor girl & family struggling against evil rich overlords. Written well and comfortable. But the big twist is that somewhere way back when, a way was found to draw your life's time out of your blood and bind it into "coins" so the currency of society is time. The poor struggle to survive for twenty or thirty years, while the rich steal their lives (literally) and live for centuries. It's a fantasy setting, but it reminds me so much of that movie In Time with Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. I LOVED that movie, and the book is shaping up so well also.

I do sort of have questions about some of the things in the story so far though (view spoiler)[ I get wanting to portray the rich as wasteful but why are they using blood iron as fuel? Does it burn longer? Does it impart some magic to the fire? And why do they keep snacking on it? I get that eating it gives you more life but if there's no other benefit, why do the rich just keep treating it like breath mints or sugar? Okay, okay, the rich are gluttonous wastrels but it's still money. I'm not aware of too terribly many rich people, even mega-ridiculous-wealthy, who run their fireplaces by burning logs of money? And of course.. WHY DOES THE QUEEN know who Jules is??? (hide spoiler)]

Really hoping this book lives up to itself. I've been reading so many "meh" books lately that I could use a great one.

Okay so my money's on (view spoiler)[ Jules somehow being the Queen's legit heir somehow. What I can't figure out is why Liam is having softie moments. I'm really not convinced Jules did the right thing by going to become Ina's servant; sounds like something you can't really get out of, but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens! Not sure what went down at the hedge witch's place but I'm REALLY interested in whatever secret everyone's hiding from Jules. I still think she's somehow the rightful heir. And apparently Roan is not as enamoured of his fiancee as everyone thinks, while Liam is doing the right things behind the scenes and still horrible in public. I'm wondering if Jules is remembering the whole thing with Roan and the fire wrong. I wonder what really happened. (hide spoiler)]

Well... I anticipated several things and missed a couple of the really big twists, so very nice author Holland! (view spoiler)[ definitely want to read the sequel (more like NEED). I'm not quite sure how I felt about the ending. I felt almost like being the Alchemist made Jules a bit of a Mary Sue except that Holland was afraid of her being a Mary Sue so she limited the Alchemist's powers in all these ways so really Jules couldn't do much except a couple party tricks. I got a little confused with all the "reincarnation" "statues" "stones" "I've had a million lives and I don't remember but the other chick hasn't" bit. I'm not sure how the blacksmith knew who she was, and I'm not really sure how she has a sister in this incarnation and never knew it. So that whole thing was a little sketchy for me and what should have been a super powerful ending, fell a tad flat. Still it was a great read, rather unique and I enjoyed it. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I have a really wild theory: I think Ina and Jules are twins because of their near birthdays, and the Queen was given the wrong twin, which is why she has Ina, and not Jules. The stone in her mouth...that sounds an awful lot like what happened to Caro, (I also had a theory that maybe when Caro drank that, time was turned back, but that one went out of the window pretty fast), so maybe Jules has unlimited time, and she can produce unlimited blood-irons or something? And that's why the Queen wanted her? Because she's dying?

So maybe that's why that man tried to warn Ina, because he thought she was Jules?

I still don't know what that was about the Snake and the Fox, but I suspected that it might refer to the Sorceress and Alchemist respectively...I also thought that maybe Jules was the sorceress, reincarnated or something....or maybe Naomi was the Sorceress, which makes my earlier theory of Ezra being the Alchemist even more nonsensical.

Also, why are there so many fires following Jules around? The only one she thought she remembered was the one in which they fled the palace, but now we find out there was another one?

One more thing, is it possible Antonio Ivera was the Alchemist? Because Antonio does seem like a boy's name, and earlier I suspected that it was Jules' real name.... (hide spoiler)]

I think it makes sense that Jules is from Briarswood and her father never told her that because she'd think that shes 'cursed' or maybe because the queen is looking for people from there? I don't really know.

Anyway, I don't remember what the book is about at all, but it's so freaking pretty! I guess she has some kind of time warping powers, which is probably illegal, since time is kinda their currency or something? I hope her father will be okay. She'll definitely be going to Everless, I'm excited! Can't wait to find out more about the life she had there!

Okay she just said something about her father saying that they should know their country; why do I feel like they're royalty? Is she the real princess or something? Idk, I already have so many theories XD Why do I feel like Roan is really the bad guy and Liam isn't? Idk. I think Roan might be able to control time as well.

I feel like she’ll want to know what happend when she looked at Jules and will probably want to kill her? The queen is probably evil, I’m guessing she’s the sorceress and Jules is the reincarnated Alchemist or the other way around. I feel like Hinton is going to die at some point, he’s the typical kid character to die😂

Ah surprise, her father isn’t her father :P I really don’t get why she’s going back there while she knows that her father literally told her to stay the fuck away, and still she wants to go back and even become the queens handmaiden? I want more Liam, even though she doesn’t like him yet.

Also; so her blood warps time too? So freaking cool. Since Ina mentioned that the queen is visiting everywhere that’s related to the sorceress, I’m guessing she’s the alchemist or related to the alchemist and Jules is the sorceress. Can’t wait to figure out who her birth parents are.

I still don’t really trust Caro, the scene with the queen was weird and it seemed like she has some kind of healing magic. Didn’t know there were other kinds of magic than the time thingy, so I'm back to thinking she's the sorceress. Anyway, I’m still not sure if she’s evil or on Jules’ side, but her reaction to the news of Jules being an orphan/briarsmoor (yeah wtf Ina, again so unnecessary to mention that) makes me think she’s evil.

Uhm okay wtf. Caro still went to the fault and got punished, and it really annoys me that Jules thinks it’s her fault. She literally told her like 5 times that she didn’t want to go in there and Caro still did it, which makes me think she had an alterior motive. It’s absolute bullshit that Jules wants to bleed herself now, just for a girl she literally just knows (and barely may I add)??? I’m also getting sick of her ‘Liam is a villain’ act because he’s so obviously not evil and Roan is the real jerk. Ugh I’m getting sick of her stupidness. I wonder what her vision was though, that was cool. Why do I feel like the girl she saw, the one who threw a knife, is actually Caro 😂

Well I still dislike Roan and I hate that she kissed him. At least she knows a little more about her background and that Ina might be her sister, still don’t trust Caro and the queen. Especially now that Caro apparently lied about the bleeding, what was that about? And the golden thingy melting, Caro saw it going back into Jules’ blood so I have a feeling she’s going to tell the queen all about her. (hide spoiler)]

I’m now also realizing that all the other children that the queen adopted died (obviously she killed them but that’s besides the point), which must mean that they were all the other kids that were born with a stone in their mouth and that must mean they were maybe the other 11 stones (idk how many kids have died). I knew Liam wasn’t evil, duh. Dude I hate that she’s going back. She literally doesn’t fucking know Ina and she is the most important person right now, since she can defeat the sorceress, and still she goes back to everless????? Dude I’m so annoyed.

Well surprise surprise, Caro is evil🙄 Had a feeling she’d be the sorceress and I was right, although I kept doubting if it would be her or the queen. Yay I’m so happy that Liam pulled through! I hate Caro and don’t particularly care about Roan, I’m glad Jules knew she didn’t love him lol. Still hate the way she handled things, because it was just so unnecessary, but I’m very glad that she’s secretly realizing that she loves Liam - or so at least I think she is. Hehehe. Did really enjoy the book, loved the world building but kinda hated some of the decisions that Jules made. (hide spoiler)] I'd definitely love to read the next book somewhere in September if you want :)
