SOLVED. Read it in Middle School. Girl loves to read and write, wears white Victorian dress. [s]

So, from what I can remember the book was about a young girl who loved to read and write. At the beginning of the book, the girl is nearing the end of her Summer vacation. She wears a white Victorian dress everywhere and walks around barefoot. She often reads in her hammock. Her best friend is her Aunt, who accepts her quirkiness.

She starts school and people start to tease her for her choice in style, and interest in literature. So she decides to assimilate; stops wearing her white dress, cuts her hair, and wears jeans and bright colored t-shirts. At the end of the book, she realizes that she should never change herself to fit the expectations of others.

That's basically it. I hope that someone can help me!

I read the book almost 8 years ago. I believe that the book was fairly new at the time.
