My quota is so minimal that I don't ever feel too daunted by it: it's only an hour, after all; it's only one piddly page! I love curling up with my favorite clipboard (which has no clip, as the clip fell off DECADES ago), and pad of narrow-ruled white paper (I'm very fussy about how dark the lines are, and it HAS to be narrow-ruled), and beloved Pilot Razor Point fine-tipped black marker pen, plus a mug of Swiss Miss hot chocolate. And maybe, if one is available, a cat. And then just to write. That's the best part, right there.(less)

I am spending a blissful week at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, where I taught in the Graduate Programs in Children's Literature for the six-week term last summer as well as for six weeks in the summer of 2014. I'm not here to teach this time, however. I'm here just because I couldn't bear to stay away. Our beloved founding director, Amanda Cockrell, is retiring after a quarter centur...
