Is it worth reading?

I hated and I mean HATED Vampire Academy, but I have been told by many friends how good they are. Are they close to as bad as Vampire Academy or worse? Should I read them or not?

The Bloodlines series is very different, I think, so I'd say it's worth a try. Mainly, Sydney is an extremely different character than Rose, so her narration really makes the books distinct from VA. Granted, I didn't hate Vampire Academy, but I also wasn't crazy about it. I'm absolutely obsessed with the Bloodlines series though. Sydney, in my opinion, is a much more thoughtful and likable narrator than Rose - in fact, Sydney's one of my absolute favorite YA protagonists now. Hearing the story from her perspective gives a whole new insight into this world, and just makes the story feel very different than VA overall, since she sees and reacts to things very differently than Rose does. Adrian's also a lot of fun, he has a ton of great, funny lines and is a really interesting character to read about in general. Also, with Adrian, I honestly didn't care about him all that much in VA. In Bloodlines though, Richelle just does such a good job developing and deepening his character that I finally got why there's so much hype about him.

The plot's also pretty different, in that they're not really in the Moroi world anymore.

So, I'd say give it a try. It's different enough from Vampire Academy that if you didn't like VA, you may still like Bloodlines.

Jenny Thank so much and then I probably should start reading it. I mean it did catch my interest when I saw a blurb about it, but I was worried due to my ex ...more

I also thought the VA series was just mediocre at best. I was never into Rose and Dimitri as a couple. I thought they were a pretty weak couple, so much so that the author had to come up with memories of them that never happened on the page in real, book time. IMO Rose was a hothead who often acted even younger than her age and Dimitri was pretty bland for a love interest. So, as you can imagine, I had misgivings that Bloodlines would be any different even though I already liked Sydney and Adrian from their bits in VA. I'm just starting the third book, The Indigo Spell, and I am enjoying it so much more than the VA series. I agree with Emily that Sydney is just a smarter, more mature, likeable heroine than Rose ever was.

mehh. if you really want to know about adrian cuz you really liked him in VA then you should read them.

I enjoyed Vampire Academy, it got better as it went along,
but I much prefer the Bloodline series, very different from VA.

I really like Adrian and Sydney as characters and after finishing
The fiery Heart I am so relieved the next book is just out,
oh what an ending
