I loved this story of a family skirting madness, while living with the fallout of a mysterious tragedy. The social angle on this novel makes it well worth the read. Twisted ending!

The Witching Hour (Lives of the Mayfair Witches, #1) by Anne Rice

This novel is long, but if you favour the mansion/architectural part of gothics, you'll love this New Orlean's house, which almost steals the show as a character in its own right. This one does have supernatural and is quite shocking at the end.

This was my favourite Sherlock Holmes, and I think it was because of the Gothic elements in this mystery.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

The Thirteenth Tale is classic Gothic about a young woman who is drawn into the memories of a dying old woman. The story traces the old woman's childhood full of abandonment, abuse and neglect. If you're looking for romance, you won't find it in this book. But if you like creepy stories about what people are capable of, or if you are interested in twin stories and loss of twin stories, then read this one.
