It has more to do with the fact that not all publishers list "word count" as part of their information. If it was standard industry pubishing practice to list word count as well as page count, we'd be golden.

It sounds like we need to rally against to publishers to make it standard lol. They're really cramping our style.

Just need to get everyone on Goodreads to do challenge competitions like us...create demand :) Then again, I've always wondered why the Sword & Laser group/podcast/videocast hasn't always been able to generate an amazon monthly deal for their bookclub pick on that basis with over 22k members.

Ope... that book is 680 pages... 3.4 Buddy Read bonus points to me...

Finally took the time to make the one change I wished I could before I had edit privileges on the scorecard... updating people's tab links... the ones that broke when we duplicated tabs to give people my sheet layout... I fixed Choko and Siobhan (so you can click on their names in the leaderboard and view their tab)... if anyone else's doesn't work, just let me know...

Fixed... that happened when Rob tried to start making the team scoreboard sort itself by ranking... I think he ran into trouble and just manually rearranged them... so the ranking is accurate right now, but isn't always...

How do you think I feel?... Rob gave me access to the locked scoreboard a week or 2 ago... more tabs I can mess up... at least there are backups... both on Rob's Drive, and just in the sheet itself... you can click the "all changes save in Drive" text and view revisions...

Lundos added pages/day to the Pages Read tab, I think (looks like his formula)... thanks... great stat to have...

message 376: by Rob (new)

Rob (nefariasbredd) | 2418 comments I was playing with a pages/books read per day tab (sheet 19 all the way at the end. Haven't had the time to go back and really figure it out. Wanted to see our reading trends as a whole and as a team.

Biggest problem with your book counter is people type their dates differently

2/14/18
14/2/18
2018-2-14
etc

Yes, i was putting a lot of faith into google to recognize the difference in formating. Might have to go back to each sheet and make sure it is identifying the format.

Most date fields can be quickly reformated... just highlight the cells you want then click:

Format -> Number -> Date

OR

Format -> Number -> More Formats -> More Date and Time Formats

Lundos | 392 comments Iain wrote: "Lundos added pages/day to the Pages Read tab, I think (looks like his formula)... thanks... great stat to have..."

It's mine. I cannot get it to be in one formula, so we will have to have some 'help' cells in AF1 and AF2.

Lundos | 392 comments Iain wrote: "Most date fields can be quickly reformated... just highlight the cells you want then click:

Yes, but sometimes Excel doesn't work like you want it to. So what we can do is add 'help coloums' in each sheet and SUMIF(S) from there. However, I'm still mindful of not overloading the sheet, but of course we can test it.

It's the same with the book count. Not every sheet has one, but we can it in the above 'help column' and COUNTIF(S) from there.

If you know what I mean.

Yes, you are. And n°7 in points pr. day.

We added some new features.

If you look at Virginie or my sheets, you can see a lot more data available if we want to add it. But it will take some manual work in each sheet at some point.

We're creeping back into the things we were going to wait to fiddle with until the holiday seasons...

90% of sheets have page counts now... book count is something me and a few others added later... we don't tend to go around adding things to other people's sheets unasked anymore... since some people don't like it...

You probably need a more complicated formulat that takes the "Graphic Novel?" field into account and divides by 4... you actually added so many extra data cells you could do it yourself...

Change L1's formula to match L2 with y=n instead... and then make K1's formula = L1 + (L2 / 4)

I may have added a book count to Zaara's and Melissa's scoresheets without asking them. I'm counting on the nice colors to distract them 😈

Yup, going to do just that. It'll be more representative of my reading habits :)

EDIT: Did it. I lost a few places :(
Also, you made me realize I had screwed up my GN page count. I was considering the "Buddy Read?" column. I actually read 6700 pages of graphic novels :o

It opens in under 5 seconds for me. Updates in under 10. I have a feeling as the spreadsheet gets larger and given the number of aggregates we are calculating it will continue to slow down.

It takes forever to load for me. To the point where I say hell with it and close it out for later. Patient, I am not.

Same as Scott. I was thinking of getting rid of the formulas for the points for previous books at the end of the month (doing a copy-paste only values) and tweaking some formulas to reflect this.
But... I'm not sure it'll actually "lighten" my spreadsheet ><

It also works fine for me, though, it is slower than in the beginning.

I think it depends how fast your computer/internet is... and how many books you've read... it's getting slower for me... I have 63 books read and another 67 pre-filled into my sheet... sometimes I have to reload the sheet for calculations to be done and to update my books/pages read and total points...

I didn't know anyone was successfully using the sheet from their phone, MY phone won't switch between tabs, it just reloads the first tab with the tallies any time I click anything...

I did a bunch of formula work on my sheet last month... then I copied my sheet to my Google Drive account as a backup and deleted all the extra formulas (books/month, pages/day, expected end-of-year totals if I don't slow down, longest book, shortest book, average book, etc)
