@Yanique, @Mayim Thanks!!Hahhhaha :) It might disappoint some of my group members though. Blood Eagles doesn't quite go with Hello Kitty
Google disagree: (Not for the faint of heart)
(view spoiler)
All I did was google "hello kitty horror" and pick something bloody...["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

It was disgusting! If you are reading this before DON'T OPEN IAIN's SPOILER!
It fit the blood aspect of our team name... and then some... but there's a reason I hid it in a spoiler...
Iain wrote: "It fit the blood aspect of our team name... and then some... but there's a reason I hid it in a spoiler..."Couldn't believe this was the same guy added my cute Hello Kity :)
Siobhan wrote: "Hehe, bunch of creative people here!"The translation group I'm a part of had google sheet for progress reports... and I just wrote "dick" with different colored cells. Just to balance out all the creative ppl, you know?
On the other hand when art-group Voina painted a 100-meter dick on a draw-bridge so that when the bridge is drawn the dick will be facing straight at the windows of the office of St. Petersburg's mayor, it's ART. So I really don't know...
Wow! Guys, this competition has sparked some real zeal about reading and I love seeing everyone getting so active!!!! This is just amazing! FBR is an awesome group!!!!
I'm feeling pretty zealous about drawing and penesia, but reading too, definitely reading. I'm partial to the letter "I" personally.
Choko wrote: "Wow! Guys, this competition has sparked some real zeal about reading and I love seeing everyone getting so active!!!! This is just amazing! FBR is an awesome group!!!!"We can't compete with you on that :) :)
Even I struggle, half the time :) ... Just activated Warbreaker, and Choko already added something else, so I'm still 0.4 behind...
If you two keep up at this pace, it will definitely be between you two for the top individuals at the end of the year. How many books do you usually read in a year?
The last few years I've read 180-200 books... before that I was reading 350-400 for a few years... either way it was close to 66k-100k pages... the difference was going from Kindle to audiobooks... now that I speed up audiobooks I've closed the gap... and this competition is motivating me to read in most of my spare time, again... not that I watch much TV/movies to begin with... I also have been avoiding any video games that require me to pay attention to the story...
It is when more people get involved that it gets fun:) I like it now that people are getting awake after the holidays:):):)
Tip: If you read too much, like some of us, and pre-fill your spreadsheet out of order, you can easily sort it, as long as you format your Read Dates the same way every time:
MM/DD/YYYY and YY/MM/DD should work... I don't think DD/MM/YY will tho...
So should writing it out, as long as you don't jumble the months...
February 1st, January 31st, etc
ANYWAY: to do this, you highlight the range of the sheet you want to sort... click the first book title at the top you want to sort then hold SHIFT and click the last book you want to sort over in the Total Points or Rating # column (depending how much you've modified your sheet)...
Then go to the top menus and click Data -> Sort range... -> Sort by Column B... A->Z
This is a one-time sort... you need to redo it every so often when your read dates start getting jumbled again... but you don't need to start at the top every time... just start where the jumble begins...

Oooooh, I didn't know I could do that. I'm going all barbarian and moving the entire line once I finish a book :p
Thanks Iain!

Hi all,I've taken the liberty to add "Achievements / Milestones" to the "Team Scoreboard" sheet in the Scoresheet. These are some of the bigger targets for Teams/Readers that should be glorified for their performance.
I don't know how to make these interactive in Excel, so please fill in the Teams/Names if you spot someone reaching the achievements/milestones. If you have more don't hesitate to add to the list.
Also, if anyone knows which reader who reached 10.000 pages first, we can add that to the list.
I do stats for a living. Nice to meet someone else who doesn't mind getting a few more insights into the competition.
I don't know if it's already fixed, but I noticed last night that the homepage tab, the one with the team overall points, had been moved somewhere in the middle of the blood eagles tabs. I didn't know how to move it back to its correct position.
@LundosI love stats. One of the reasons I jooin sites like GR, myanimelist and IMDB.
What kind of stats does your work work with? Sorry for awkward phrasing.
Do u mind if I bother u with questions sometimes? Cause sometimes I'm interested in stats for things I can't even word for google search. Right now for example I'm writing a blogpost about correlation between reality and fiction tropes.
I'm the manager of the planning/analysis department for my region (7 countries, 4 currencies, 2 brands, 6 business models) for a global American retail company. So sales analysis/forecasts, margin, stock, demand (by category), replenishment analysis, etc. for each country, brand, and business model. I find the holes in the cheese so to speak.

I feel really small right now)Do u have interest in general, non-work-related stats? sociology, psychology?
idiffer wrote: "I feel really small right now)Do u have interest in general, non=work related stats? sociology, psychology?"
I have a degree in (macro)Economics. I have a generel interest in most aggregated stats that relates to society and a smaller focused interest in stats regarding fantasy/sci-fi books.

Sure. But... don't expect great things, there's alot of personal speculation. That's why I need teh stats! And dunno, I feel like someone should have already written smth like this, and it scares me, I hate doing redundant work.
When I outlined the blogpost to my friend he said "well, that's all obvious!"
to which I said "Well not to GR reviewers it isnt!!!"

Most things are obvious when presented clearly, but unknown until that time. It's why analysis is needed.
Luckily in psychology you only need a single sample to argue your case, so you can speculate all you want. If you want to add more you can always ask people on this board.
Since I don't know what your blog is directly about, I cannot be more specific.
@LundosYeah, that's a good idea. Maybe I'll show the post to choice ppl such as yourself and ask for any additional info ppl may have. And if I figure out a way to word my "requests", then I can ask the general public. I hope you get the gist, bc it's kind of hard to explain. English being my non-native language doesn't help.
Choko hit 10k pages on January 24th... I didn't reach it until the 25th...
Choko hit 20k pages on the February 15th... I didn't reach it until the 16th...

i thought i was a fast reader but BOY have my perceptions changed. i need to step up my game. XD
Choko's probably been reading for hours, while I've been in the vent and random chatter threads all morning... so much for finishing Malazan tomorrow...

I haven't read a word today, so I'm glad you're not either. No need to widen the gap in our scores, LOL!

Hi five! My degree is macro economics, too.

Me neither. Almost no reading gets done on the weekends. Family always getting in the way...
Should we add some Buddy Read Milestones?... I think it would be cool, but kinda just seems like an excuse to have my name or Choko's show up more often... I mean, I just counted, and I've participated in 36 finished Buddy Reads already, and Choko has 32...
I think maybe a tracker with pages read. I think it would be interesting to see how people rank that way; without bonus points.
I suggested it early on, but people felt like points were enough since they correlate to pages read...
But I agree, especially as time goes on, that you can see how much of an effect bonus points have on the leaderboard... only reason Julia is so far behind me and Choko, is that she had no bonus points until Rob set up an Incomplete Series tracker for her yesterday... she's read 21,000 pages just like me, and has 100 less points since she has no Buddy Reads

I didn't see when you suggested that, because I'm all for it.
I don't really consider Julia (she's Rob's kid that was just randomly added right?) because kids books middle grade and YA have exaggerated page numbers due to large fonts, line spacings, and big margins.
I think for everyone else reading mostly adult books it would be a very useful stat to rank by.

It was the first week or 2, when I added the page counter to my page and Rob copied it to everyone else's... making a page count leaderboard would be as simple as copying the points one and shifting it to parse cell J1 instead of G1...

I mocked it up... I just copied the Scorecard tab, deleted all the repeat stuff, and got it to track and sort people by pages read...
Julia jumped to 2nd place since she's 200pgs ahead of me at the moment... you jumped to 4th place... Laura dropped to 5th place... interesting stuff
If Rob wanted to officially build this into the Scoreboard, he could use Lundos' team pagecounts to do the % again... I got rid of that for now in the mockup...
It's the 3rd tab in the spreadsheet now, called Pages Read

Iain - I have given you edit access to the scoreboard. Have fun. (make a copy first though!)Yes, Julia's page counts are definitely a bit inflated.
Ideally, I'd love to do word count too as our tally, but it's just not possible sadly.
That said, she has read Warbreaker and a few other books with adult font/spacing. She's reading the first Shannara book too (and will finish it today I suspect even though she's annoyed that there are no female characters), so her points are not totally inflated. (I've also noted that several others in this group have read middle-grade and YA books in their challenges and they are adults ;)) A well-crafted book, is a well-crafted book. I think I have a YA series or two in my pipeline too.
I like the raw page count tally though for just a sense of comparison on a non-game level. I do also enjoy that we get bonus points for buddy reads, challenges etc. Keeps the whole competition interesting from a gamesmanship standpoint.
Maybe next year, like we did with graphic novels, we create separate point allotments for YA books?
Editors note: While I was typing this, my colleague dropped a package from Amazon on my desk which I'm 100% sure contains the new White Sand Volume 2:). Yippeee!
