2018 Team Competition Tracker/Google Sheet Central

You're welcome.
Also everyone - don't be shy, if you have an edit or way of generating a cool stat, let me know or create a duplicate page to implement your idea and show everyone. (Without deleting the tracker entirely please!).
for those better at spreadsheets than me - trying to figure out a way to generate a self-updating list ranking the most popular reads from everyone on the scoreboard page. Getting a sense it is a time consuming process. aslo, if we added a rating column to everyone sheet, we could also get a sense of the favorite rankings too. Just a thought :)

Learn by doing :) I'm 97.5% self-taught. (Thank you Baseball).

Yea... just save a backup and fiddle with things in your page... I figured out how they were adding book links, and it's 50% convenient...
1) Click a cell with a book title
2) Click the chain button on top right...
3a) Half the time one of the 2 auto searches is a goodreads link...
3b) Otherwise, you need to copy the link from another goodreads tab

Feeling inspired, I got a page count working with a little google magic, and that SUMIF function Lundos mentioned...
=sumif(B4:B1000,"<>",C4:C1000)
can be seen in my sheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
Added this line to get an idea of how many pages I've read, without all the bonus points... if we added these cells to all spreadsheets, we could play with it on the scorecard page to get an idea of what people are reading, regardless of how many Buddy Reads and challenges they do... the only "problem" is that it doesn't shrink graphic novels...

Are you sure?... they seem to be updating to me... when a book is added, it seems to take a few seconds or cell moves for the math to update, but that's the extent I've seen... I think Blood Eagles has closed the gap with House of Chains even more since last I looked at the page...
I meant since Jess added a graphic novel a little while ago for 2 points... but yea... that too... I thought it was me adding in a couple books at first, but that didn't explain the big jump...

That was Iain's idea on his page. I merely did some copy and pasting :)

I did have some fun with the scoreboard sheet though yesterday.
I've liked a lot of the added info...
if we want to take it a step further, we can do:
=countif(B4:B1000,"<>",C4:C1000) to get books read,
and then divide total pages by books read to get average book length, and figure out who is reading longer books...
Not sure there's a nice place to put these stats on people's pages tho... at least not mine...

I actually started copying it into random people's pages without the formatting when I was looking at other people with a ton of books read, because I wanted to compare Page Counts... for example, me and Choko keep managing similar page counts, but she's got a few more Buddy Reads/points than me... cause she was playing the long game 4 months ago with the Tiger and Del Buddy Read and the like...

I'm not sure how meaningful it is considering our points are page generated already, not per book generated. It seems somewhat duplicative. It might be more fun just to see books read as a separate column since we don't have that on the scorecard already.
What I'd really like to see is a rating system so that it can be a tool to see what we all really like and give us all suggestions for things we might not have read yet.
Now if there was some way to consider font size/spacing, that might be more meaningful.
I am working on another thing for the scoreboard that is
Team total points - minus top reader. To see how close it really is without the team's anchorperson ;) (doing so it will update automatically though).
You can already see how much of an effect some people are having with that Team %... Choko is like 40% of Jaghut...
By the way, you just broke Team % with the sorted team leaderboard... you were dividing by a specific cell, and now that varies depending on who is leading...
House of Chains team member %s add up to 150% now, and meanwhile Tome Raiders totals 60%...

I'd be interested in adding a ratings column and mining data from it, but I think you mentioned before that that seems like a lot of work for you...

And for everyone else considering they'd have to go back and rate everything. We have a year to do this challenge, so I can work on it over that time (and then it's in place for next year should we do it again).

If only we could find a way of motivating those on our team who havent contributed. Besides friending and messaging, that is.

Tis still early in the year and we all have different life constraints. All it takes is a single long book to jump up in the standings.
Haha I love that Jess is on the offensive. I'm giving my silent people through the month to get it together, then we're implementing Team Stalker mode. Nowhere is safe! Peer pressure for a good cause! (I'm kidding, mostly)
You need to up your game... that new stat showing which team member is raising the score the most isn't doing your team any favors... you need a Hacen.. she's the only person with 40+ points that still counts in that little experiment...
Actually, if we took this a step further, and just removed the top 5 scorers, and Miche for Team Tome Raiders, the scores would be pretty close... that would remove Hacen from Blood Eagles tally and Sha from House of Chains... leaving the scores as:
House of Chains = 156.8 (128.7 without Yanique, as well)
Blood Eagles = 139.9
Jaghut Guardians = 134.3
Tome Raiders =127.8
House of Chains = 156.8 (128.7 without Yanique, as well)
Blood Eagles = 139.9
Jaghut Guardians = 134.3
Tome Raiders =127.8

The # of members/team is a bit off as well. Need to invite more people to make it more even.

Tome Raiders and House of Chains are both pretty evenly balanced (minus Bill)... it's just House of Chains has more people in the 20-35pt range...

With all the cool added stats, I'd like to put in a request for one for each team that automatically organizes by most points descending order. It's a competition within a competition and I think it would be fun to see. :) the leader on Team Tome Raiders switches a couple of times a day. I love it.

That's supposed to be because some people only read 10-20 books / year and other read 40/80/160... so it takes more people to balance out... but that only works if everybody is around...

I think this calls for a separate tab :)

I predicted no-show probability when assigning teams, so I'm actually glad to see our participation numbers relatively even with 8,8,9, & 10 (which without lovely Julia would've been 9 as well).

Well I'll listen to Gardens of the Moon while I do it...so not a total loss.
Or you could maybe sort the individual tallies by team? Already on the first page, but it changes order as the number updates? I'm not sure if there's a simple way to do that by team with everything under one column or not haha. A separate tab also sounds good haha.
Mad props if you can get anything else done while trying to listen to Gardens. I'm still on pg 60.

Actually, I could just put in a filter and everyone could just check it out as they like. (as long as they put it back when they're done).

Actually we have a 40+ points member who hasn’t added her books to the spreadsheet yet. 😁

The problem with the no-shows, is that even though there are even number of no-shows, the books read might still not be even haha. One person who no showed might have been reading 50 books a year, while the no shows on another team were only reading 10 books a year.
But fear not, it's only the 12th of the first month ;].
Honestly, just looking at the numbers, its completely insane how much we all read as a group - and just the few who are participating in this competition haha. We all read A LOT.

Astoundingly, I took that into account too. The biggest pitfall to that preparation is that I was incorrect on some of the people I thought would show up (who haven't) and vise versa lol.

Most of the people I think are behind on tallies are in House of Chains... I see you meant Laura, since she's in most of the Buddy Reads I do... and doesn't Saar have some points?... I'm not sure about the other zeroes...
And I'm not sure we can use those filters with the Scorecard tab locked... or I dunno how to follow instructions...

ah drat. so much for that solution. Probalby better off not letting anyone edits cells on the scoreboard page :) i'll do something different.
