I apologize Anni, I unfortunately have a mental illness that showed it’s ugly face this year, so I had to unplug for quite a bit of time and was not there to start conversation with my mates. But I’m doing so much better now. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with our team and the level of conversation this year

I think she meant Bill's sister, Jessica, who until about 30 min ago was just Bill's sister and we had no idea who she was.

We talked about a couple of two for two swaps to even it out as well but Margret wasn't parting with the the one person who's point total made that plausible from her team.

Anni | 5066 comments Thank you all, that's very sweet :)
So Jessica will join us as well then, or will she just add her points like Julia did last year?

I guess, I will just make it my holy mission to get my team talking!
If necessary I will threaten or bribe them and if nothing else help I will talk to myself 😂

Don’t worry Anni it won’t be difficult. When I’m doing well I’m quite chatty and I’m feeling great! I’ll be posting questions etc about the books we’re all reading to get the conversation flowing. I think I might have to add in some incentive for top team points for some handmade apparel too ;)

She is actually in the group but beyond using GR to track her books she doesn’t really know how to navigate to the discussions. I’m going to see her tomorrow night so will show her how to join in and nag her until she does.

message 868: by Virginie (last edited Dec 09, 2018 11:46AM) (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Ok, I feel the need to share the latest Scoresheet Development Team crisis:

I was happily writing the last of the explanations on how to use the spreadsheet when Iain popped up to announce that the formulas for the points calculations were all wrong, and "no, not just here but on ALL 51 SCORESHEET".

A moment of disbelief followed by a (longer) moment of loudly swearing and cursing (so loud my poor cat was startled awake and then run away) later, I went to fix the offending formulas. And copy-pasted them 50 times on the other sheet. Then realized the new formula was still wrong, and did another round of 50 copy-pasting...

So... The spreadsheet is done and ready, but I'll have Iain triple-check everything before we share it :P

I don't see anything immediately wrong... best way to know for sure is to probably let people in and start fiddling around... create a bunch of fake book entries, and see what happens... we have 3 weeks to fix anything we missed... and if we missed anything, it's probably with the Bells & Whistles, not the main formulas, at this point...

This reminds me of the annoying task of creating folders in this group....which is seriously my least favourite mod job. So tedious (but no formulas so that's a plus). We really really appreciate you guys taking the time and effort to make the spreadsheet. We know it's a ton of work <3

message 875: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 35338 comments Mod
Except for me... half the work... all the praise... I joined late, and supplied some layout ideas & Form Calculation integration, but left the bulk of the formulas & coloring to Virginie, who had more experience playing with really long formulas last year... I prefer shorter formulas, and maybe storing intermediate steps in hidden cells...

message 876: by Virginie (last edited Dec 10, 2018 01:34AM) (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments @Rob: don't worry about it; I got all worked up while copy-pasting theformulas, thinking "Aaah, that's what happens when you rush and don't do enough testing" before realizing, as I got to the last scoresheet, that I actually never tested the new formula I was implementing xD

And sure enough, there was a problem... My own fault, really :p

Rob (nefariasbredd) | 2418 comments We are officially launched!

Please bookmark the following link as you'll be using it....for 10 straight months!

2019 Fantasy Buddy Reads - Tracking System

This year we do have an alternative if you do not wish to mess with the sheet or in addition to the sheet if you're on a phone and don't want to have the load thing. Just use this handy-dandy form. The data you enter will go into a special sheet right in the workbook to be added into your points totals!

Handy Dandy Book Entry Form Bookmark me too!

Please go to the Primer tab first to get started. Any questions, Virginie, Iain, or myself can help you out right here.

Special thanks to Ms. V who did the lion's share of the work this year and thanks to Iain who took my idea with the form and ran with it to make it happen.

Some of the nifty Bells & Whistles look weird right now, showing negative numbers... that's because their formulas involve the difference between today's date & January 1st, 2019... so they are negative numbers instead of positive ones... this will look normal once the competition starts... (you won't notice this until you start putting sample book entries into your spreadsheet/form)

This is the time to practice... Rob and maybe others will have backups... and you can make a copy yourself, to your Google Drive if you have a Google account... and fiddle around without risking the main sheet if you're worried...

EDIT: Argh, too slow!
