2018 Team Competition Tracker/Google Sheet Central

:-) thanks Niki. It's The Devil and Eve by Italian artist Nicoletta Ceccoli...and did you see how beautifully my tracker also stopped at 666 pofts now that I embraced my evil side? I don't even wanna funk with it.
😮😃
As you can see, I
And hey. Hope you also saw the "Pun"icorn spoiler I left you over at Tome Raiders...to celebrate the end of the tourney. Its a bit more edgy than the ones I left for the other Mods bcuz #HomeTeam...😂😝😜 thks for always making me feel comfortable...mainly this was in letting me come and go randomly, which suited my lifestyle and personal ways...you were a great Captain, buuuuut I've said that already.
Also sorry my reply's so late...I was AWOL. The tourney ended and I decided to be a slacker on all my BRs + my girl cousin decided to have two weddings (a small AND a large) and PREPONE the first one to (you gotta believe this, Niki) next month 😱 so...yeah...filial duty calls me to scramble hither and anon across several pouffy bridal activities...
Also I hope nobody is annoyed that I trashtalked here a bit. Since the Tourney is over and this Year 1 thread is now basically obsolete...figured we could use it to play...until it is sent to the Thread Morgue...till then it is just sitting here...

I know the team draft hasn't been done yet, but maybe we could set up the 'scoresheet template'? I'll be able to take care of individual demands that way :)

I actually started resetting it (copied it to my local google drive) a week or so ago with a new basic page for everyone as a starting point, but haven't finished up yet. Was just going to get into it again when of course today I just got an idea to put a whole new twist on it to make it easier - thinking of using a google form as a universal book input method (easier for phone users too) for everyone on the front end and then have stats pages on the back end for people who want to see more.

Figure we have over a month to put something together and share with it the rest of the group for comment and approval. Considering I did the first one in a day or two and then we tweaked it after the competition started, I think we're in no rush :)

I found it helps a lot to have a few people to 'review' your set-up and ideas. It's totally up to you, of course :)

True :)
I was just wondering if you were going to 'host' to scoresheets this year again.
(also, I'm already thinking of ways to tweak my own spreadsheet like a proper nerd lol)

Absolutely :) Once I get something set up to a certain point, I'll invite you both in to have a looksee.

Great :D Thanks!!!

Great :D Thanks!!!"
Just private messaged you through goodreads with access to early drafts.

Will take a look when I'm sober lol.

Yes, spreadsheets and wine is a dangerous combo.

PS: it looks like this: (view spoiler) ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I'll be around, when a copy is made available... I think the Year 2 sheet is going to be even harder to fit to a single screen, than last year... since new things are important, like Audiobook vs Print, etc...
Ooooh will the new sheet have new fancy bells and whistles?! Because I copied mine from this year to keep track of my reading from now on since I enjoyed it so much.
Rob's talking about incorporating a Google form, so people can more easily update their sheet from their phones... just plug in book details to the form, and it will plug it into your sheet

Book Entry Form
This is linked to a google sheet. Each player's entry in this form would fill a single line on a parent sheet and then we could create stat pages and other logs from that.
My sense - generating team data and individual ranking data from this would be relatively easy. Recreating individual log pages might be more hairy and might remove some of the fun page personalization part of the proesss at the expense of being able to easily add finished books while on the go.

I can see this being useful to some people... personally, I prefer fiddling with the spreadsheet, so hopefully this can be optional...
Everything seems fine with it so far, except a few typos and the Book vs Audiobook being a Yes/No is confusing...

Audiobooks are worth less points, but some people do whispersync for Voice or just listen in car and read at home, so reading an 800 page book and saying you listened to 300 pages and read 500 pages is important... with the spreadsheet, you'd list the same book twice with those partial page counts... we did similar in 2018 to account for the pages we read in books we DNF'd...
The important thing here is that the competition isn't which team reads the most books, but which earns the most points, which is more closely correllated to which reads the most pages... otherwise there would be a large incentive to read shorter books, and fantasy tends toward tomes... while I've been planning out my 2019 reads and signing up for things, I've seen a large number of Buddy Reads for books around 1000 pages long... moreso than last year, I think...

Made some of those minor corrections.
Unless I can figure a way where an entry in the form can also populate an individual participant sheet (post to next blank line kinda functionality - I've done something like this over a decade ago using visual basic in excel when I was making baseball auction draftware, but that won't work in google sheets. Perhaps there is a workaround), then using the sheet on your own would probably be locked down and ore for viewing purposes.
Starting to lean towards the "if ain't broke, don't fix it" (except for scoring update modS) and letting everyone customize their sheet. I might start everyone off with a slightly more advanced basic sheet though.

There could be the traditional spreadsheet for general use, and the form could be for all the people Virginie fills in the sheet for :D

Oh, can I help with that? :D

Good luck with that... I don't know anything about forms... from the sounds of it, it's hard to make a hybrid sheet that allows Forms and Manual tracking

Well, it's simply create additional tabs for individual scoresheet. Rob already created a spreadsheet to collect the data from the form, so it's only a matter of adding the manually entered data to the correct team score (just like we're doing right now)

I'll just look at the finished product and try and learn how to do it, should I need to in the future...

I just confirmed with Scott that regular books are 125% of audiobooks, not 133%...
I'm double checking if graphic novels get this 25% bonus, after they get the 75% penalty... then graphic novels might be worth 31.25% next year...

I loved all the stats from this but I feel that it would be easier to enter data in a Google form.
Every time I added a book I looked to see all of the stats.

@Virginie/Rob: Niki laid down The Law... Graphic novels are still 25% of the page count points... they aren't affected by the Kindle/Paperback/Hardback bonus of 125%

We're.. hum... 'contemplating' options to automatically bring the books you add via the form to the personal scoresheet but it's a bit tricky.
Whatever we end up doing, team scores and individual scores/ranking will be available for everyone to see :)
I never realized that functionality was possible.

Ah, thanks. Dammit :p
(I read roughly 160 manga volumes this year.)

It's not many points, in the grand scheme of things... 31% vs 25%... the nerf to Bonus/Challenge points is the biggest hit... I would have only earned about 1600 points this year, if the new rules had been in effect...

True. Probably doesn't amount to much. Reading graphic novels is not the most efficient may to get points to begin with anyway haha.

So much for my Ranma 1/2 Re-read.
You guys dunno what you're missing out on... I logged on to my email account to verify email, like Steam likes to complain about yearly, and stumbled into the Early Access 2019 Spreadsheet... went down a rabbithole of formulas that you guys will probably never see, because they're more trouble than they're worth...

But you learned something new at least! Resume builder!

Ah, I was wondering when you were going to come and go crazy on the spreadsheet :D

It's always a good time for a Ranma 1/2 re-read hahaha. Now, I guess I'm gonna do that during the holiday.

You think you had it tough? Pshaaaw you got off easy.
And here, I can prove it.
Mildly NSFW/Text Only

Sooooo...I recently told a dude that I was a sexual predator when I was actually trying to convince him of the exact OPPOSITE.
Yaaaas, ppl. This actually happened in real life...I am NOT making this sh!t up...you have to believe I went and did this!
I spoke categorically, seriously and eloquently on the subject...like it was some presentation at work...😂😂😂 clearly I was not thinking uhhh clearly but naturally the poor decent thing wanted to climb into a hole in the sky and pull the ladder up behind him.
I empathise. I too felt the same when the full idiocy I displayed in the situation finally dawned on me. But then (naturally) I had to share the broad plot details with my mates...thing like this...not a small achievement...being the cringiest person, dead or alive...I felt I deserve a gloarrious enthronement ceremony, at least.
So I called them over...for some reason the mangy bitches 😝 (of course!!!) seemed to find this an existential comedy instead of the dark horror it actually was...decided to make my life even more...I hoped they will stop with ordering in pizza ...watching surreal movie of Tim Curry in drag + kicking my arse the whole time but noooo...I am now the proud owner of
the hugest canary yellow oversize sleeping T shirt which has a stylised W and M on the front that look extremely NSFW and on the back it says "all men are #prey"...about this, I can only say *facepalm* bcuz it is so damn YELLOW 😁
The rabble then proceeded to eat everything in the fridge as well as the pizza, helped themselves to the good bottle of wine I was saving for later AND to all my regular jammies to ensure I HAD to wear the sexual predator uniform to bed.
Also...I love these supers!ut bitches...yo!
(hide spoiler)]
Somehow I perversely blame FBR and the Team Reading Competition for all this happening...if I hadn't been so mindfukked and sleepstarved by all the READING 😂😂😂 haha...
Dear God, if this was Year 1, I can on,y imagine what Year 2 is gonna be like, y'all.
Congrats on winning the tourney again!
NOW Iain, you have actually earned the right to squirm and twist your beard.
