I know many people (myself included) have started or have been slowly making our way through this massive series. I thought it would be good to have a general series buddy read, for discussion on all books in the series, and people seemed to agree!

So regardless on if you're on A Game of Thrones, or have battled your way through to A Dance of Dragons Part 2, you're welcome to join.

Please keep spoilers to a minimum. If you want to post them, please use the spoiler tags!

Winter is coming!

Roseanne | 1239 comments I am half way through A Clash of Kings (second book) I am loving this series.

I found myself getting bogged down half way through the second book, but overall it's a very good book. Just make sure to push through!

message 4: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I am overwhelmed by the size but I am really invested in the story. I just hate Joeffrey!

message 5: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Mason (lmason17) | 174 comments I am also reading these books this year! I finished A Storm of Swords: Steel and Snow a few weeks ago, and will be starting part 2 of Storm of Swords soon!

What did you think of the first part of A Storm of Swords? I'll probably end up reading it this summer!

message 7: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Mason (lmason17) | 174 comments I really liked it, but then I love the TV series and am really finding that watching the series and reading the books at the same time is really enhancing my enjoyment of both. I'm not sure I can judge the books from a fresh-eyed literary perspective!

One of my friends made me binge watch season 1 with him, which was great fun. I must admit, it stuck amazingly by the book, although he told me it was the series that does it most. The cast is amazing (especially Emilia Clarke as Dany).

I will definitely look forward to reading (and watching) the further books.

message 9: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I have not seen the show.

message 10: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I finished the second book. I am taking a break before starting book 3.

I finished Book Three, Part 1 the other day. Really really enjoyed it!

message 12: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments In the next few weeks I will be getting back to this and starting the third book. Is anyone where I am?

message 13: by Holly, That Geeky One (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) | 1949 comments Mod
Do you have it in parts, or the whole book?

I'll be starting A Storm of Swords, Part 2: Blood and Gold. So I'll be around where you are! :D

message 14: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments yea. I havent gotten mine yet but I am getting the kindle book so I think it is the whole book. Is it really 1216 pages?? That is huge!

message 15: by Holly, That Geeky One (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) | 1949 comments Mod
Yeah, the print versions had to be split in two because it's so big. I believe Chapter 42 is where it's split. And I can confirm that the Kindle book is the two parts.

Good luck. Part 1 (just over half the book), is great!

message 16: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I normally use the library but I purchased the kindle book for book 3. I am still shocked by how many pages this book is. I am going to be reading this for a long time.

message 17: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I started A Storm of Swords last night. I am still amazed by its size.

message 18: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 437 comments The first book ripped on me

message 19: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Mason (lmason17) | 174 comments I'm just about to start A Feast for Crows, excited to finally be diverging from the TV show!

message 20: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I am 7% into A Storm of Swords. It is going slow. Is anyone even close to where I am?

message 21: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra Black (bloodypatronus) Going to finish a Clash of Kings in two weeks, but I guess I'll need a month rest.
I planned to continue in December (winter is coming stuff, you know), in a cozy chair, wrapped in warm blanket and with a hot cup of tea or cappuccino and cookies, while reading about wars, dragons and scary Others coming closer to the Wall :'D

message 22: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Mason (lmason17) | 174 comments Great idea, Alex! I am saving the final two books for over Christmas for exactly the same reasons :)

message 23: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I am 86% done with A Storm of Swords. Hoping to finish by the end of the year. Going to take a break from it after I am done and plan on starting the next book in a month or two.

I had to put this series on a break for a while, mainly because I was horrendously behind on my challenge and couldn't commit to another big chunkster.

I'm tempted to continue this on through next year, but I also have a lot planned next year. Argh, we'll see. :)

message 25: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 221 comments I will be starting with Game of Thrones sometime in January. Looking forward to really starting this series as its been on my TBR for a very long time now!

Holly (hollycoulson) | 1949 comments Mod
Be warned, Game of Thrones really hooks you. They're great, but they take forever :P

message 27: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 221 comments Lol.. I have heard that but its time I take that final step and commit myself to this series! :P

message 28: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I finished a Sword of Storms. So good but it took so long. I am taking a break and wont start the next one until February or March.

message 29: by Sam (new)

Sam I got all the way to half way through a feast for crows but got bogged down. I will be attempting it again in 2015. I might actually have to start the series again, the stories and characters are so many that I might have to refresh my memory. I didn't care too much for the tv series.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I just finished the first book this month. I knew a lot of the major events because of someone in the house watching it (the first season), even though I didn't sit to really watch it yet.

I have the tendency to be bored reading something if I watch the source material, but if I read something I can watch the adaption fine.

I liked it better than I thought - impressed by Martin's writing style and he didn't overwhelm with the high fantasy stuff thankfully, as I'm a noob with that.

I will start the next book soon, but not sure when.

message 31: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Mason (lmason17) | 174 comments I just finished A Dance with Dragons: Dreams and Dust (part 1), so only one more to go now until I am fully caught up! At my current pace with this series, I'm hoping that I will finish A Dance with Dragons Part 2 just as the next installment is published... ;)

I'm confused... whe. I went to the store and bought them I only saw five books 1-5... did they publish a not split version??

message 33: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I'm not sure about that. I thought some of the books were too big to be one book. but I am reading them on my kindle so I get them in one piece.

message 34: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 437 comments Rosannne I'm reading book one on my nook and the rest are in print

message 35: by Jenny, Certified Bookworm (new)

Jenny Clark | 1638 comments Mod
I looked at them here on goodreads since I scaned them and five says it's over 1000 pages so I guess it is a non split version. I just hope the first one is'nt cause I got it in pocket paperback size, and the others are oversized.

message 36: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments Sonya wrote: "Rosannne I'm reading book one on my nook and the rest are in print"

That is not what I meant. I meant some of the books are too big to be printed as one and are printed as part 1 and part 2 so there are 2 books instead of one.

sonya marie madden | 437 comments Ok my bad

message 39: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments thats cool. It was very confusing for me when someone told me they had a part one and a part two to the third book.

message 40: by Levia (new)

Levia Ethel (homelesscactus) I just finished A Feast For Crows, and though I've been pacing myself through the series so there won't be as long a wait until the next books come out, I think The Winds of Winter will take a while to be published still!

message 41: by Tina (new)

Tina Choy | 51 comments I am reading A Dance with Dragons. I started it earlier this year and find it hard to get through. I just restarted it again.

message 42: by Scarlet (new)

Scarlet The series sure is huge. But its so amazing!! I completed the whole series and now I have to wait for the next part to be released :( the waiting is the worst part....there were so many cliffhangers in a dance with dragons and I can't wait to find out what happens next. I hope the book is released before the show *fingers crossed*

message 43: by Scarlet (new)

Scarlet Omg Tina, you have to complete it this time! It gets a bit hard to endure in the middle (there were some characters I didn't really wish to read about) but its worth it. Good luck! :)

message 44: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I am planning on getting back to this series this year. I don't watch the show but I believe I heard the book will not be out in time and they wont be able to follow the story line anymore.

message 45: by Levia (new)

Levia Ethel (homelesscactus) Yeah I heard about that today too, ugh I hope the sixth season won't stray too much from the future book then.

message 46: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments I think they will be on their own for season 6. I really don't see him giving away what happens in the book before I is released.

message 47: by Scarlet (new)

Scarlet Any clue when the book is going to be released?

message 48: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments all I heard was he isn't done and he doesn't work well under pressure. I'm not sure.

message 49: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne Ludford | 19 comments I've started these books and put them down several times. I would love to finally get through them this year.

message 50: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne | 1239 comments Which one are you up to Roxanne. I buddy read the first two and I really liked having someone to read it with. I did the third one by myself. I know everyone on different books but if anyone is interested I'm thinking next month for the next one.
