Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments The movie and book are completely different apart from the basic premise of Cinderella and the obedience charm.

I love both of them. I have read everything ( except one I didn't know about ) and loved them.

message 102: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments All right, need them both then !

message 103: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments Ugh that comment was incomplete, I got distracted.

I meant I have read everything by that author (except one I didn't know about ) and loved them. I am now looking into books the author liked/was influenced by.

message 104: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments I kind of understand nonetheless !

message 105: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments 7 books read so far in september ! I'm happy with myself :) I edited a bit my TBR as well.

message 110: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments Well to be completly honest some were really short, and some were already started. BUT I feel proud of myself nonetheless ! thanks gals :D

message 111: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments You should be proud!! The only books I've finished so far this month are ones I started in August, but I'm going to be playing the long game this month... I'll probably finish all my September books in the last week and add loads of points then!

message 112: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments Small update on my TBR (comment 90) : this is going quite nicely, except for the Kate Daniels books ! xD
Update on the book buying : this is NOT good XD I really don't seem to be able to stop myself from buying books. A new haul is on its way...

Oh wow, so much progress with your TBR, well done!
I'm curious to see your new haul :)

message 114: by Elinor (last edited Dec 07, 2019 01:12PM) (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments So this is where I failed utterly at my challenge. Again. New haul :
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare
City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare
City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare
Truthwitch (The Witchlands, #1) by Susan Dennard
Kill the Dead (Sandman Slim, #2) by Richard Kadrey
Aloha from Hell (Sandman Slim, #3) by Richard Kadrey
Devil Said Bang (Sandman Slim, #4) by Richard Kadrey
Kill City Blues (Sandman Slim, #5) by Richard Kadrey
The Invisible Library (The Invisible Library, #1) by Genevieve Cogman
The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1) by Holly Black
Straight Outta Fangton (Straight Outta Fangton #1) by C.T. Phipps (e-book sale, not counting it) ✓
La menace (Le noir est ma couleur, #2) by Olivier Gay
Le Sanctuaire des Dieux (Terre de Brume #1) by Cindy Van Wilder
La Lune est à Nous by Cindy Van Wilder
Soeurs Sorcières by Jessica Spotswood
Mon frère est un gardien (Les autodafeurs, #1) by Marine Carteron
Destinée (Alex Verus, #1) by Benedict Jacka

So I think my problem is that there are so many books that I still have to earn that I can't stop saying to myself : "well, one more... two more... won't change a lot". So. I'm going to go easy with myself. Except for my London haul, every book read before I've earned all my London books won't have to be earned. If that makes any sense. After that I'm going to go back to normal. Also I hope I won't be buying lot of new books again... Maybe one or two (there are 2 I def need to buy) but not too many. Hopefully I can achieve that.
The good thing is that, I'm buying a lot, but I'm also reading quite a lot lately, so I guess there is that.

message 115: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments Well you definitely needed the Cassandra Clare ones, so you can't be penalised for that! XD

Great haul!! I'm jealous. I need a good book buying binge!

message 116: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Nice haul! And yeah, if you read the books soon-ish, then at least, you're not adding to the problem so not having to earn them is fair IMO :)

message 117: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments So I'm never going to finish all those Kate Daniels books before the end of the month. I just want to finish Into the north (finally) and Shard of honor before October ! September was quite a successful month (if we don't count the KD books) (we are so not going to count them)

message 118: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments Not counting Kate Daniels - savour them don't stress out about them.

But Gryohonpike - you still haven't finished right?

message 119: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments Yes I want to savour them so I am slowing the rythm for KD (it was already slow but now I'm really acknowldging it ^^)
and NO I'm not finished with Gryphonpike I KNOW IT'S BAD, but without you to push me to read it as soon as I can it went down in my priority list... but now that's number 1 xD I only have 50% left so I should be finished tonight.

message 120: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments You're doing so great Elinor!

I've fallen off the wagon just like you and still can't bring myself to feel sorry about it. And just like you I'm taking it cool now and trying to read as many as I feel like from what I own.

I'll take you as example and not count for those that I'm reading as soon as I buy. :)

Btw - nice haul! Totaly worth it.

I want more too, I was actually not very satisfied with the ending because I wanted more details.

Yay, I'm so glad you got it done and liked it! 😁😁😁

message 124: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments I did like the ending but I really want more of them too...
I'm glad I finished them too, this was such a good series, I wouldn't have read it before a lot of months if it were not for you...

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments So many! Good good!

Btw are you BRing City of Bones? If yes, I would like to stalk the thread so I can refresh my memory, it's on my incomplete series challenge!

message 129: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments But I noticed that you have already started 6 so it should be okay then!

message 130: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments Yes there is a BR for City of Bones and the rest of the series ! Will try to find the thread for you ^^

Yep that's the plan for today : read as much of possible in my already started books to help me next month ^^ I really hope I can get to the complementary list as well...

message 132: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Great TBR! Kari's right, you've already started a lot :)
Good luck on finishing them. That much off your list for next month :D

message 133: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments Many thanks, Great Empress !

message 134: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments Edited a bit my TBR to better fit reading mood, the new romance BR, and reading pace and try and not be as overbooked with BR happening at the same time as I was ^^

message 135: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments Elinor are you planning to read Neanderthal first?

message 136: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments Before what ?

message 137: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments Elinor wrote: "Before what ?"

The Vivienne Lorret?

message 138: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments Nope, I hope to finish the novella tonight or tomorrow (alongside with Kate Daniels #4), and start the first Lorret after. I will be reading Neanderthal in the week-end but still read the Lorret at the same time :) so in short : I'm going to read them at the same time so don't worry :)

message 139: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments It's perfectly fine either way!

message 140: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments You're doing the Penny Reid too ?
Didn't get a lot of reading done tonight because of Marvel's Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D...

message 141: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments No, I'm not doing the penny Reid one, I have already read I think 3 books from the series long time back and will read it next if I want to complete the series.

message 142: by Karishma (last edited Oct 05, 2018 08:13AM) (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments You aren't here for two days and I'm worried, so used to taking to you everyday.

Hope you are okay!

message 143: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments Ohhh I had a bad day yesterday, got a meeting after work (since I'm working in a bookshop we can't have meetings in the day and we have to wait till the bookshop is closed...) and after that I agreed to go to have a drink with the collegues, and got back way too late to my taste (which was not that late but I go to bed early so...) and I was SO. EXHAUSTED. I am really exhausted these days so... Yeah. I am okay, but tired ^^ thanks for noticing / caring / asking :)

message 144: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments I'm about to go to sleep but - you work in a bookshop - that is so very cool - how is the business being affected because of Amazon?

Well, rest well then.
* Hugs Back*

message 145: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments I am as well ^^ it's still really early but I'm so tired so...
It is really cool :) I feel like if you have the right books at the right time in the right place (and that's a great part of our job ^^), bookshops can survive, especially with our price law in France (books are the same price everywhere). I'm not that opposed to Amazon to be honest (I do have a Kindle myself...), it has its perks (when you live far from a city, when you want to read on an e-reader...), it just shouldn't replace bookplaces since we have our own perks (human contact, advise, picking things you wouldn't have on your own and thus broading your horizons, events...)

Thanks :)

message 146: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments Well that's great about the price law - we were having a discussion at the MacHalos about how so many of the bookshops were closing down because of Amazon. I'm glad it's not that way in France.

So, the most important question of all is - do you get to read the books in your bookshop for free because that would be the best thing ever- or not?

message 147: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments No we don't read them in the bookshop ! we have a lot of work and the reading part is not done in the work hours ^^ However, we can receive ARC from publishers or borrow books if we have enough copies of them :)

message 148: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments I meant later taking them at home etc- not during work.

message 149: by Elinor (new)

Elinor | 1548 comments Yes we can borrow them (if we have more than 1 copy) :)

message 150: by Karishma (last edited Oct 08, 2018 10:05AM) (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1617 comments That is sooo cooolllllll!
Lucky lucky girl!

I can't imagine the bliss of being surrounded by books so the time.

Is it a new books store or a second hand books store?
