Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Jeanne, I'll be praying for you and your family today. I'm sure it will be sad but, knowing you, I suspect it will also be a celebration for a life well lived- stories and remembrances shared and laughed over. Wishing you peace and comfort.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Isn't that funny... so do we. We are a sister city to Glasgow Scotland... Glasgow KY and our local school team is called the Scotties. The school's marching band wore kilts for years when I was growing up. They switched to a more appropriate uniform for preforming a few years ago. A small group still have kilts. I love hearing the pipers. The first weekend in June is host to the Highland Games at a state park near me. I can't always make it but they always have a good turnout. The battle of the bands is amazing as you hear dozens of pipers and drums at once. Man... that will raise the hair on your arm.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments The city next to mine, Bethlehem, PA, has a Celtic Fest http://www.celticfest.org/ and there are many bagpipe bands which compete plus dancing groups, Irish Soda bread baking contest, Irish poetry and games, etc. all weekend long. People come from all over to compete and enjoy all the activities. (The games feature events that have changed little since medieval times include lifting of heavy stone, throwing the hammer, and tossing of the caber.)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Thank you guys so much for your thoughts and prayers. It was a most excellent day and a marvelous send off for my father. He would have loved this funeral. Even one of the workers at the funeral home said it was the best funeral he had ever witnessed.

Yep, we did it up right. The casket was surrounded by his most favorite things... pair of boots [he loved boots and was like a woman and her shoe collection], a special hat he wore all the time, bowling ball and pin [covered with the signatures of his winning team members], the wedding picture with current wife, a model tractor and trailer [he was a retired trucker], and the casket was covered with our family plaid. Well, you can't be Scottish and not display your colors. Several family members also wore something with our plaid. What fun.

There was lots of laughter, stories, and tales from family and friends. It was a good day. He would have loved it. It demonstrated a live well lived and a man of faith and a love of people and of life.

I am tired., but it is well.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments Thanks to everyone... I am well... tired but well. And yes, we did him proud. So many have told us it was the most touching tribute and funeral they have ever experienced and was such fun. He would have loved it.

He was the type of man who walked into a room and half a dozen people would call out his name. Sort of like Norm on Cheers. People simply enjoyed being around him. He will be missed. Thanks again for your support.

151.) 36D by Tracey 4 stars http://tracey2.mrsdarcy.com/36D.html
rated: XXX = Only the names are the same: Lizzy & Darcy/William more than "meet" when he visits the lingerie shop she owns looking for a gift for his girlfriend, Caroline, who rejected his initial gift of a weekend away at his cabin. Graphic details abound.
152.) So Gradually: A Pride & Prejudice Tale 3.5 stars https://www.dwiggie.com/derby/old_200...
This variation has Elizabeth in love with Darcy while he calls her a dear friend. Everyone else can see it is more for Darcy: the colonel, Jane, Anne, Bingley, etc. So while at Rosings and Elizabeth doesn't show up for dinner due to feeling ill he goes and finds her crying and it dawns on him as she looks at him that she loves him. She refuses to think of marrying if he only sees her as a friend and thus he sets out on a course, with the help of his friends and relations, to fall in love.
153.) A Close Call by Elke 3.5 stars https://www.dwiggie.com/derby/old_200...
While touring Pemberley with the Gardiners a small boy rushing from a pond yelling that he's drowning urges Elizabeth into action...as she spots bubbles breaking at the surface. She swims, dives and cuts away weeds holding a man down and then pulls him to the surface. Of course, it is Mr. Darcy and he thinks he has died and gone to heaven as he finds himself held against Elizabeth as she pulls him to shore. Upon realizing it is not heaven and how he has spoken words of love....again...to the woman who spurred his first proposal, he is despondent. Elizabeth has to correct his thoughts

http://austeninterlude.com/suz/SuzSTA...
This does have some MA scenes but most are mild until at the end we read of the wedding night.

1.) Taste written by Ali972 A Taste of Hope in which Darcy doesn’t speak up while in Hertfordshire but when E. goes to visit at the Gardiners he makes several visits and finally declares himself. “A blushing smile crossed her lips at the memory of their farewell kiss. She had tasted that. She had tasted joy.”
2.) Touch - A Sense Story written by Stargazer: Elizabeth leaves the ballroom to cool off and Darcy follows. Seduction with the use of a rose follows.
3.) Sound written by JillTarah: Set in Lampton, Wyoming to which Elizabeth has fled from her NYC family’s outrageous shenanigans, she purchases a house and is persuaded to attend a yearly local dance after meeting Darcy. He dances with her and sings in her ear the lyrics to "I Want To Be Loved Like That" by Shenandoah
4.) 6th Sense written by jean_genie In a story reflecting A Christmas Carol : Lady Catherine is visited by her deceased husband’s ghost and shown not only past and present actions on her part but also what will happen to their daughter, Anne, if she continues to ignore her medical needs.
5.) Sight written by gail_etc While waiting for Bingley to return with ginger ale for his wife who is nearing her labor, Darcy looks at an album of their courtship, engagement and wedding and focuses on Elizabeth whom he had (of course) insulted and then proceeded to ignore. Elizabeth arrives and his attitude has undergone a change. “He let go of her hand and draped his arm around her shoulders. It felt so natural and right, and when she unconsciously leaned into him, he wondered how he could have been so blind for so long.”

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments 142.) Fleeing Destiny By: fancyface8105 https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12516567...
"Mr. Darcy entered Hertfordshire with a hidden identity & no expectations. What happens when an unexpected encounter shocks him into offering for the country nobody he fell in love with against his will? And how will Elizabeth escape from a bleak future when her father falls ill and everything she thought she knew about her dearest sister and new friend turns out to be a lie? Chapters: 22 - Updated: Jul 18, 2017 - Published: Jun 4, 2017" This is unfinished yet says "Published"? I was very disappointed that the author has not in almost one year's time completed this story. 3 stars with it not being finished.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1376 comments I agree... I read it too and it stopped at Chapter 21 with an author update as ch 22. Dang!

message 395: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 1246 comments Yikes! Well, guess I will avoid that one! I get the impression that you liked what you read and the 2-star deduction is because it appears it will remain unfinished.

message 396: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 1321 comments Yes, I liked it very much and it would not be difficult to imagine how it would all come together. Darcy (with many titles) and Elizabeth are in love and engaged. But her family is evil: Jane, especially who has worked to convince people she is not only lovely but also sweet and is, like Caroline, determined to have Mr. Darcy, even trying the compromise route. So the last chapters would have the Bennets being put in their place (Mr. Bennet is dead) and ODC marrying. The author promised a lovely wedding night scene as she has had several tantalizing chapters in which OCD has pushed the limits but not gone all the way.
