Kristie | 19139 comments Hahaha, Rusalka! You need a book cover for work. Lol

Seems like a bit of a mod slump! I’m still reading the same books.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Lol! Alexia, found me a sober book cover!

Not necessarily. I pop up like a bad penny. Hehehe.

message 1505: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I've been reading. It's been snowing so not much else to do.

I finished
Lethal White 4 stars
The Border. 4 stars. Sci fi with aliens.

I started
The Lost City of the Monkey God
Dead Man's Walk

The title was wat caught my eye too. I had never heard of it before, but this just sounded like a great story. I'm enjoying it :)

Margo | 11628 comments So I finished Pines. Most of the book was horrible - very violent - but then the ending came and OMG , I was hooked! I moved straight onto Wayward and I'm already 24% in.

It's a fab series.

Good thing it's only a few days to the toppler. You won't have to wait too long for book 3.

Sarah | 18550 comments You should check out the tv series too Margo when you're done. Just one series that covers the whole trilogy.

message 1512: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I definitly will Sarah.

message 1513: by Dem (new)

Dem | 984 comments Finished and enjoyed Girls & Boys Girls & Boys by Dennis Kelly on Audible

message 1514: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma Half-Truths and Semi-Miracles is a reissue of Anne Tyler’s 1974 story. If I had a light like this, I’d be tempted to hide it under a bushel, I think, ungrateful so-and-sos.
Half-Truths and Semi-Miracles by Anne Tyler Link to my review

message 1515: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I finished Three Men in a Boat and moved on to Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet. The second is really suffering from comparison issues lol

message 1517: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma I can't believe I'd never read Rebecca! I thought, well, 80 years old, classic, guess I SHOULD read it. Silly me for waiting. Daphne du Maurier nailed it!
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier 5★ Link to my review (no spoilers)

message 1518: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Patty, I'm not a big fan of classics, but to my surprise I really enjoyed Rebecca too. I've been meaning to try out some other books by du Maurier but hasn't happened yet.

message 1519: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Du Maurier is such a great story teller and she provides such a wonderful atmosphere that your nerves are on edge all though the book.

message 1520: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Rebecca is fantastic! I would also highly recommend checking out My Cousin Rachel and Jamaica Inn. They are both very good too.

message 1522: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Patty,
Don't forget Frenchman's Creek. It is my favorite after Rebecca over Jamaica Inn. My Cousin Rachael - definitely, Yes!

message 1523: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments YAY I just finished the Pines trilogy! The books have been gathering digital dust in my TBR for years now. It's a great feeling to kill another series :-D

message 1524: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Oh, and by the way the series was good - I won't say say great. The first book was a bit brutal for my tastes with lots of gory, explicit violance.

message 1525: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm reading To The Bright Edge of the World. Only 36 pages in, but so far I love every single word of it. After page 1 it felt like I never had a reading slump in the past weeks. I love how the story is set up (I had no idea it was all letters and diaries, which doesn't always work for me) and I've already fallen in love with one of the MC's.

All for ZZ.
:)

Looks good, Peggy. Added. I usually enjoy the letter/diary/journal format.

message 1530: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I sometimes lose interest a bit when it's the same format (like only diary entries from one person throughout the whole book), but this one has lots of variety so it's great. I'm so sucked in I worry I won't even notice when I need to get off the train!

message 1531: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments It appears I am finally out of my reading slump! Hooray! Thank goodness for the toppler! I have completed Call Me By Your Name (reread) and The Watcher in the Shadows.

message 1532: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19139 comments So glad for you, Lisa!

message 1533: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yay Lisa!

message 1534: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Just finished my toppler books so mow back to Bag of Bones but as i'm going away this weekend and don't have any space for a dead tree book i thought i'd start Emperor of Thorns on my kindle. It also kills the series.

message 1535: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I finished recently The Joy Luck Club and The Perfect Nanny both for the toppler. TJLC also fitted a task in the ZZ Challenge.

I still need 12 books to get my second badge in the ZZ Challenge, and I know I can't do that in the remaining time, so I am trying to read at least the books I had schedule that I am more eager to get to before I get distracted planning the 2019 yearly challenge. :)
I will start now The House by the River. The cover makes me want a summer vacation in Greece...

message 1536: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I finished The Lost City of the Monkey God. I was only about 2 pages left to finishing it before the toppler only I didn't realize it. The ebook said 92% finished, and I didn't realize that was all pictures. I could have easily taken 10 minutes and crossed it off. But, it's crossed off now and that's all that matters.

I'll start my monthly challenge book, Winterbay Abbey: A Ghost Story a little later tonight.

message 1537: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments That is something I don't like about ebook. I hated when the book finishes abruptly at 95% and the rest are question for book club discussions or the first chapter of the next book. Those things are easier to spot in hard copies. I guess I should pay more attention to the table of contents when there is one.

message 1538: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I usually have an index in my ebooks that I have to page through, so I usually notice already before starting the book when there are q&a's, pics, interviews, previews etc.

message 1539: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Oct 13, 2018 06:50PM) (new)

Kristie | 19139 comments I’ve just started City of Thieves for the monthly theme.

message 1540: by Cherie (last edited Oct 13, 2018 06:30PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished The Poisonwood Bible in the early morning today. The story is still with me.

I am switching continents and reading The Girl in the Tower before I jump back to the jungle in Honduras, where, Janice was. I had to renew my library book for Birds Without Wings. I think I only got through the first few pages.

My monthly challenge book from the library is too short and the one I own is sooooo long, I may not get to it this month.

Janice - I have a hardback copy of The Lost City of the Monkey God: A True Story and the pictures are in the middle. I already looked at them.

message 1541: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I hope you like City of Thieves, Kristie.

This is one book that I was happy to read in print format because I got to read the footnotes and see the pictures. Audiobooks tend to miss those things out.

message 1544: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I have just started The City & the City. Already the title is starting to make sense to me.

PattyMacDotComma Aussie author Kate Morton has produced another back-and-forth through time novel, The Clockmaker's Daughter, that's bound to be popular.
