Kristie | 19142 comments I have a few books going at the moment. I'm more than halfway through Not Her Daughter, which is good, but I felt I needed a break from it last night, so I started The Dry Grass of August. For some silly reason I wanted to read The Dry Grass of August in August. lol So, I at least started it.

I'm also listening to Last Breath. This is the fourth book in the series and I'm working my way through it now because I have book 6 to review for NetGalley and I'm late on it. So far, it's a good series.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I just finished He Shall Thunder in the Sky this morning. It was the story that I had wanted to hear for a long time.

I just got a notice that the 1st Kurt Wallander series book, Faceless Killers is available for me to download.

I am still reading The Long Utopia and The Prince and the Pilgrim for my yearly challenge.

message 1304: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Listening to The Summer Tree and reading Other Minds: The Octopus, the Sea, and the Deep Origins of Consciousness. Neither is what I expected so far :-\

message 1305: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Decided to put The Summer Tree. I'm not in the right mood to do justise to it. I needed something a bit more down to earth so I'm listning to If We Were Villains

I had a very sleepless night last night (neck ache) so I listened to an entire short book, The Girls of Slender Means. I was very disappointed in the story. The only other Sparks novel I've read is The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie so I guess it had a lot to live to.

message 1306: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I hope things pick up quickly for you, Margo.

message 1307: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19142 comments What do you think of If We Were Villains so far, Margo? I have that as a possibility for the zodiac.

message 1308: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I've got it for the zodiac as well.

message 1309: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I'm less than an hour in Kristie but I am engaged. Good start, I want to keep listening. It is a who-done-it but the setting is unusual.

message 1310: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19142 comments Sounds good. Thanks, Margo.

message 1311: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4529 comments I used If We Were Villains for the Zodiac challenge. Loved it. Even better if you like Shakespeare.

message 1312: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I just finished listening to Faceless Killers. Kurt Wallander reminded me a lot of Harry Hole. Maybe it is the setting, but I really enjoyed meeting him and will look forward to the next series book.

message 1313: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (triciareadsitall) | 900 comments I have a ton of stuff going at the moment. The latest, though, is At the Water's Edge. It's been on my TBR because I loved her Water for Elephants. So far I'm disappointed, but I'm not that far in yet.

message 1314: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I finished The Tuscan Child and was disappointed in it. I expected so much more. It's definitely readable, just doesn't have much substance to it.

I'm not sure what audiobook I'll read next. I have no time to listen tomorrow, so will choose something before Friday.

message 1315: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Roz wrote: "I used If We Were Villains for the Zodiac challenge. Loved it. Even better if you like Shakespeare."

Yes, a lot of the bard has come into it. I'm surprised that a college in the US would specialise in Shakespeare. So far it is all plays I studied in school so I'm quoting along with it. It is amazing how much of that stuff sticks in your brain.

message 1316: by Cherie (last edited Aug 30, 2018 11:07AM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I managed to finish book #4 in The Long Earth series, The Long Utopia for my yearly challenge. I was pleased about a little bit of background that the authors gave for one main characters in this story. Still, only three stars.

I am starting Empire of Dragons for my China book task. I have owned it for several years. I hope it is a good read.

message 1317: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I decided that I would read Midnight Riot aka Rivers of London. I haven't done the twin task yet and it's short and doable between months.

message 1318: by Adam (new)

Adam | 18 comments A Stranger in the House - by Shari Lapeña - started reading this yesterday - all i can say is that is brilliant !! a guaranteed page turner

message 1319: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm enjoying it so far Janice :)

message 1320: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Rivers of London, that is.

message 1321: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments It's starts off with a bang, doesn't it, Peggy?

message 1322: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (triciareadsitall) | 900 comments I finished Spinning Silver last night. I borrowed the ebook from the library. It was another great read for me, but I almost wish I'd listened to it instead if the audio book has different voices for different characters. I sometimes had to stop and remember who was narrating.

message 1324: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm reading The Core for a buddy read and 22 Britannia Road for the group read.

message 1325: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (triciareadsitall) | 900 comments I finished Circe. It was good, but I liked The Song of Achilles better. It was interesting to see the bits of overlap and common characters between the two books. The author does a really good job of making them fluid between both. When we meet Odysseus in Circe, for example, his character remains true to the way she portrayed him in The Song of Achilles. Over all, I really enjoyed the premise of both books and hope she writes more similar titles.

message 1328: by Sarah (new)

Welcome to YLTO, Target!

message 1330: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished Empire of Dragons last night. I think I liked it more than most of the reviewers. It may have been a little far fetched, but the author is a good story teller. I liked the way the Romans were portrayed and the way the Roman and Chinese characters interacted. I finished another Pendergast series book, Cemetery Dance. Just okay. Four more books and this series will be a wrap, but I started another by the same authors.

I started The Core for the buddy read and The Good the Bad and the Infernal for the monthly challenge. I also started The Natural for my ZZ challenge, but I will put it on the back of the stack for the first two.

message 1331: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19142 comments I'm reading The Dry Grass of August for the zodiac challenge. I also just started The Home for Unwanted Girls and Sold on a Monday.

message 1332: by Margo (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Margo wrote: "I am also reading The Core. I can't believe we are on the last book of the series!"

I know! Reading it is bittersweet. There is a novella due this month or next - Barren but then we'll have to wait for his next set of books which are based in the same world but X amount of years in the future. I think it's a 100 years if I remember correctly but don't hold me to that!

message 1335: by Peggy (last edited Sep 06, 2018 09:38AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I thought it was much closer in time, with the children of MC's of this series. But maybe it's the children of their children of their children then?

message 1336: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments You're right Peggy. Just looked and it's 15 years after the end of the book we're reading.

message 1337: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Oh, courageous! I checked it after the 4th book. I had forgotten the answer but did remember reading something that was a spoiler, so I didn't want to look again. I forgot about that spoiler until today (I think), when I finished chapter 6: (view spoiler)

message 1338: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Ah yes. That is a bit spoilerish. I didn't look at the book synopsis but Brett's website where he announced the new series. I just read as far as when it was set but i've read it before and don't remember that having any spoilers. Best wait until we finish the one we're reading before exploring more.

message 1339: by Dem (new)

Dem | 984 comments Finished The Thirteenth Tale The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield for the second time and loved every minute spent with this book.

My review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/71799221

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments It was a great read, Dem. I might have to read it again, sooner than later.

message 1341: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments The Thirteenth Tale is awsome! Definitely read it sooner Cherie ;-)

message 1343: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I finished Murder In The Yoga Store which is a true crime story about the brutal murder of Jayna Murray in the Lululemon store in 2011. Horrific story!

I've started If We Were Villains for the zodiac challenge.

message 1344: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4529 comments I hope you like Villains as much as I did, Janice.

I've never read Shakespeare so it might be a bit of a stretch, but I'll see how it goes.

message 1346: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I finished 22 Britannia Road on audiobook. I will start What Angels Fear tomorrow.

message 1348: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I finished What Angels Fear for the monthly challenge and really enjoyed it. It's another series started. Argh!

I decided to quit If We Were Villains. I was having a difficult time getting into it. I've decided to read The Children's Hour for the zodiac challenge instead.
