Russ: great suggestion! We do have a gap to fill between Pieces of Her and The Witch Elm and this looks like a good book for us to select.lRuss wrote: "Noticed The Banker’s Wife and its great reviews. Maybe for a September read?"

Ha, so I did! And I added both John Grisham's The Reckoning and the new foutrth Cormoran Strike, Lethal White to our group read shelf, nicely rounding out the year! Great reading ahead!

I’m interested in The Banker’s Wife. My library got a digital copy and I put myself on the waitlist. I’ll probably get it in a few weeks. But I will try to chime in when the discussion starts.Looking forward to The Wild Dead! Will you be starting the book as soon as it is released, Ann? I will purchase the book. I liked book 1 enough to do so. So I can start whenever.
Geri: I am very excited to start reading and have a print copy of The Wild Dead coming from the library. I hope to get it this weekend so I can see how to start the chapter breaks for our comments. Yippee!!

I’ll keep an eye out for the discussion threads and will plan to start next week!
Thanks Geri! I am glad we are both reading it and I went for an Audible credit too. I just set up the chapter threads for three segments (and can edit the title for the last one where I said it has 22 chapters. Oops. I like it when the Amazon "look inside the book" shows chapters, but this one didn't. Geri wrote: ".I used an audible credit for the book today. It has 21 chapters, if that helps. "Ann, I found your post as I was scanning through group reads to try to find out if y'all had read Bannerless as a group. I I have both both Bannerless and The Wild Dead now. Though as usual, reading this board has so increased my book acquisition that everything is a little. . .disorganized right now.
Since it seems no one has read The Wild Dead at this point, there may be no answer, but I was wondering if it would be better to read Bannerless first. You know, I've got all the time in the world these days. :-)
Editing to say that I just found that the group read Bannerless last year, so that answers that, but what I really was seeking was an answer to the second question: better to RIO these books or doesn't matter?
Jan O'Cat, smugly retired
Jan O’LotsOfTimeToReadCatDo read Bannerless first! This is a good case for RIO; Carol will be proud but more important are the character development details from the first book. Both are excellent IMHO.
Jan O’CuriousAboutGroupReadsCat:A loose guide for our group read selections: we try to read stand-alones and when we do and there is a subsequent book; we generally pick up the next book(s) too. So then Group Read books end up being series Books too.

I might quibble with your prioritizing character development background over my being proud of the RIO choice (as a reason to RIO this series), but I can't argue with the overall decision.
Ann - I got a reminder email that the group will start reading Pieces of Her on August 1st. But I checked and the book ism’t released until August 21st. I’ll definitely be reading this book! I’ll also be reading Tana French’s and Robert Galbraith’s new one too. Some good choices coming up!
Thanks Geri! Looks like the start date needs to be pushed out to the 21st for Pieces of Her. Done! Geri wrote: "Ann - I got a reminder email that the group will start reading Pieces of Her on August 1st. But I checked and the book ism’t released until August 21st. I’ll definitely be reading t..."
Geri: I'm number four on the audio hold list for The Banker’s WifeHopefully you and I can start it around the same time and I can get the group read threads ready soon.

Now I am quoting myself; Jan O'Cat seems to have started a trend! So the chapters for The Banker's wife are our second favorite kind (#1 no chapter breaks, #2 chapters that are character names repeated over and over)
Twenty-four alternating chapters for Marina, Annabel, then four Zoe chapters mixed into the next eleven chapters. It's a total of 35 chapters, 352 pages and a ten hour audio.
Should be fun to break out. 😊

Does anyone have a nomination for a November or December (or both) Group read book? Our Group read bookshelf for 2018 has filled out nicely for the back half of the year with an opportunity to fit another book or two in to bridge into January 2019
Upcoming books for group read discussions:
** 9/18/2018 Lethal White book four we've had good discussions for the previous books.
** 10/9/2018 The Witch Elm a stand-alone by Tana French we've discussed her Murder Squad books as group reads
** 10/23/2018 The Reckoning a generally favorite author, several John Grisham books have been group reads.
We do already have a couple of 2019 Group Read books liked up for February and March respectively-- the new Jane Harper and Peter Swanson books.
I nominate The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. In the U.S., the title has been changed to The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. Release date is tomorrow.
Geri: looks like an interesting book!Geri wrote: "I nominate The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. In the U.S., the title has been changed to The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. Release date is tomorrow."
Hello all! Is anyone interested in adding a late December/January book to our 2018 group read list? Geri’s suggestion looks to be a very good candidate and an unusual premise — thoughts on it and also for 2019 group reads, suggestions are welcome! We have a couple of repeat authors lined up, but not until February. Geri wrote: "I nominate The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. Sounds good, Ann! But with wrapping up my 2018 reading list & the holidays, I wouldn’t start that until Jan/Feb.
I am still up for reading The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle. I haven’t been able to read it yet. January would be fine for me to start!
Carol: Lol on the “homework” comment. I’ve finally gotten an audio loan of The Reckoning, yay! So I will listen to that one first. It’s good to have the first three 2019 group read books lined up. I think some here thought that about The Goldfinch one January a few years ago. 😀 Maybe a January tradition. 😀
I just received 7-1/2 Deaths... I'm hoping that's the upcoming group read I thought that was confirmed. If so excited. If not, I'm sure I'll still enjoy it.
George: yes, correct - our next group read book is set to start in January and discussion threads are up for the chapter segments. I am not going to be able to get to it right away, hopefully I will be able to start The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by mid month. We are happy to have you join us! Don't know if anyone else is interested in reading Peter Swanson's next book (or if it is already on the list) but it is Before She Knew Him and is due to be released on March 5. So maybe an April read?
Carol: great minds think alike! Peter's new book is on the 2019 group reads bookshelf! I am looking forward to the group discussions for it!Carol/Bonadie wrote: "Don't know if anyone else is interested in reading Peter Swanson's next book (or if it is already on the list) but it is Before She Knew Him and is due to be released on March 5.
