ok, so for next year we have me, Jen, Melaine, Leigha and Kellie. start thinking about your 2 picks for next year. let's try to have them in by the end of Sept. you can name them here or send me a message. as long as it's R.L. Stine, it's ok. It has to be a book we have not read yet. check the very first post for that info.

message 1060: by Melanie (new)

Melanie | 1656 comments I'll go for The Hitchhiker by R.L. Stine and I Saw You That Night! by R.L. Stine
I couldn't find them on the list so I assume they've not been read yet.

message 1061: by Alice (new)

Alice I will think of my 2020 picks soon.

I will try and catch up on this months book in the coming months when I'm back in a reading mood. The health stuff really threw me off. (I was going to check 'The Wrong Number' out through Scribd, but now maybe I can try and find my own copy. I swore I had a copy! :(

I've never read any Goosebumps. Are they all stand-alone stories, you can read in any order?

message 1069: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) | 936 comments Alan wrote: "I've never read any Goosebumps. Are they all stand-alone stories, you can read in any order?"

Most of them are yes. If they aren't they have the number 2 or 3 in the title, like Night of the Living Dummy 2 & 3. Otherwise they are all standalones.

Alice We didn't read The Dead Lifeguard for this group yet.

Jen, since you have Jan and I have Feb, would you like to switch one of yours for my New Year's Party? For example, we read New Year's party (My pick) in Jan and Surprise Party (your pick) in Feb? Basically we trade our picks lol

Let me know! :)

Blind Date

Kerry's had a very bad year. But now his luck has finally changed.

He's got a blind date with a girl who sounds really hot.

He can't wait. He knows this girl is going to be really different.

Kerry's right.

Because his blind date really is the girl of his dreams.

Or maybe his worst nightmares...

do you think this one is about witches although the cover would make you think Egyptian?

Oh wow, this one is a trip. I’ve read 33 pages and man is it dated! The references.

message 1083: by Alice (new)

Alice I just started and I can see what you mean by outdated. Most of his books, if not all of them have some outdated elements. It can be pretty funny, but it also makes me feel old.

message 1084: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11974 comments Mod
Me too. The street this mystery date lives on sure sounds a lot like Fear Street. Did you catch that?

message 1085: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Gray (wickedjr89) | 936 comments I've started it and have read 2 chapters so far.

message 1086: by Alice (new)

Alice I've read this before as a kid, but it has been so long, it only gives the faint Deja Vu feeling. At the end of chapter three: Okay, what the heck just happened!?

Anyone else put off with how R L Stine has his main male characters think about/describe females?

Example:

Kerry is something. That’s for sure. It’s very off putting but I don’t remember it being such a big deal back then. Maybe I was younger and thought that was the norm? I don’t know.

message 1088: by Alice (new)

Alice I think I was the same as you. Back in the day, I didn't blink an eye at anything "problematic" as I think it just went right over my head or I thought it was normal.

--

I just got Drop Dead Gorgeous in the mail and even if this new Return to Fear Street series turns out to be meh, the books themselves are nice looking. I might break down and buy the first two in the series (this is #3) It is trade size though and doesn't fit in with the old school mass markets lol

You May Now Kill the Bride (Return to Fear Street, #1) by R.L. Stine The Wrong Girl (Return to Fear Street, #2) by R.L. Stine Drop Dead Gorgeous (Return to Fear Street, #3) by R.L. Stine

You may now kill the bride was good. It's very different from the ones we are reading now. I think you'll enjoy it more than these.

message 1095: by Alice (new)
