January challenge 2018 Something New!

Going against the grain a bit with this one.. 3★ was a bit slow for me.

#3 From Top 5-10 Book Lists

Just finished it as well.. I always worry about the second novel from an author when the first one is good.. often they disappoint.. this one didn't though.

5 Stars!!
This one was always going to be a sure thing for me!! I absolutely love this author and her suspense is always amazing!! Loved it!!

I've only got one more from her left to read and the two Janette Paul ones.. :( it's not enough
Haha! I know what you mean - I'm waiting for her next one now. I've read everything she's written!

One of my favourite books of 2017:
[book:The Hitchhik..."
What a great list Taner!
I loved the Hitchhiker's series - brilliantly quirky humour. The Kite Runner is also a wonderful read. Good luck & enjoy!

Well, I am ashamed to say that I have abandoned Mr Deakin. The flow of the writing really didn't grab me. I kept feeling it was the kind of book I should be reading pen in hand for an assignment. Fascinating insights into life in mid-late 19th century Melbourne, and Deakin himself was certainly an extraordinary figure in the rough and tumble of Australian politics pre- and post-Federation. Shame we don't have any recordings of his speeches - he was a marvellous orator, apparently. This book is definitely one for the Auspol junkies out there. I've abandoned this one to the 'TBR' shelf and moving on. My next is the new one from Sarah Perry 'After Me Comes the Flood.' I so loved her 'The Essex Serpent' last year, and am hoping the reviews on the page aren't prescient!

4.5 Stars
I loved this!! My first Janette Paul.. but until Sage left.. this was me...

I couldn't STAND her sister!! OMG!! I wanted to physically shake her!! Argh!! Thankfully... once she was no longer on every page, I thoroughly enjoyed this :)

I am so with you here Loz. Sage is just awful. And Amber is an idiot for letting her be like that! I am about half way and like you enjoying the parts when Sage isn't there.

Oh Phrynne, it gets so much better! Keep going :)

Owl, Sharon and Kate - going well. :)

#4. Read a book by an author you have never read before. Ross Poldark by Winston Graham. Completed 11/01 - 4 stars.
That’s a series I read years ago when I was a teenager and still living in England. Later on my parents went it live in the area where it is set . The TV series is rather good too. They cast Demelza and Ross perfectly.

I was in Cornwall last June and visited the area where the series is shot. It's wonderfully wild and beautiful ... and it introduced me to the novels. I also bought a copy of Daphne du Maurier's "Jamaica Inn' and read it on the moors. #environmentalreads :)
