SOLVED. about a girl in an orphanage who travels through time [s]

I'm looking for a book I read as a girl (70's) about a young girl who is living in an orphanage and somehow travels through time, trading places with a girl (named Grace?) who was in the same orphanage decades earlier. They correspond through a diary that is left at the bedside.

I wish I could remember the name of this book, as I really enjoyed it. I LOVE time travel stories.

Charlotte sometimes By Penelope Farmer. Though that's a boarding school. From a review "Charlotte wakes up after her first morning at school to find she has travelled back in time 40 years and has swapped places with another girl. Each night, they swap places again. The two never meet and can only communicate by writing in each other's diaries as they try to live in each other's worlds on alternate days."
