Thanks. Always nice to meet another Karin!

It's Changing Planes, and I'm enjoying it very much so far. I remember when I first started this book over ten years ago, in an airport. I didn't know what the book was about, so it was a nice surprise when I started reading it. Unfortunately it was a very exhausting work trip, and I never read more than the first story. Now I'm finally reading it again, and it's funny how I can remember exactly what it felt like sitting in that airport realizing I'm reading a funny short story featuring airports.
It's weird, I was going to donate this book to the library when I'm finished, like I've donated all my other books, even ones I love. Suddenly I'm feeling weirdly nostalgic about this one. It's my last physical UKLG, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I decided to keep it.

Love this. Though most of the people I know call it SABLE = Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy

Where once I was a few books ahead of my challenge, now I'm 6 behind again. SIGH.

I'd love to be just 6 behind, I'm 86 behind due to an excellent Humble Bundle offering (40+ books for a bit over $26), a sale on Sue Grafton books after she died and another huge sale on Phyllis Whitney books.

I have reach SABLE for both knitting and sewing and am a master of Tsundoku.

Total owned books read so far - 24
Current points total 1890

Read 134 books (36 from the 2018 pile, still need to figure out points.
Current owned books pile 279.
This challenge has been very eye opening, at least my book reading rate is catching up to my book acquisition rate. Lol.

Finally got around to making a spreadsheet to get all the points right. Books bought in 2018 are not counted unless 300+ pages.
Total owned books read this year is 46, 38 if not counting purchased in 2018. I only have 3 left from 2010 so I've almost reached that goal.
Well done!
Though I wish you'd asked about a spreadsheet...someone was kind enough to make one for all of us to use >.<

I do! You have to save it as a copy if you want to edit it, but here's the link:

And I was doing good about at least not buying things...
But following that stream of August sales, and my library holding a book sale this weekend...
Sigh. This is hopeless. I'm up 12 books from last year and have a total of 1575 points.

(When the book is costs less than a morning coffee- it’s pretty hard to say no... considering how much more valuable books are to me than a single cup of coffee.)
On the bright side: I’ve read 4 owned books this month. Yay for improvement!

I have to say, counter-intuitively, goodreads has been good for my reading of owned books. Now I have a list of books, easily accessed, that I can go read right now! It has helped, when I see a sale, I usually go look at my owned book list and notice all the books I already have and then skip the sale.

My TBR will likely end up higher than I started this year because of the audiobookstand.com closeout, but I keep working at it.

Total points at the end of September: 4630
By the end of September I had read 33 books. New books coming in only number 20 so I am +13 for the bonus. Unfortunately that could change as I see a trip to the second hand bookstore in my future to donate the books I have finished.
HeyT, you're doing better than I am lol. I think I've read a whopping 3 books owned this year.
Karin!! You're doing tremendously well! That's fantastic!

Total = 8570 points
Read = 117 books from pre-2018 list
Bought in 2018 = 210 books (read 16)
= a plus of 82 books - 8 books donated for a plus of 74
but I'm a self-taught speed reader which means I'm likely to finish more and quicker

Yes, you are fast. I didn't count 2018 books, but acquired 119 books in 2018 but only read/listened to 13. However, some of these are storybundles and of course, the audiobookstand.com closing bonanza.

Yes!! My mom was a voracious reader of mysteries. I still have boxes of her books to get through.

In my TBR list I have a paper version of Italian Folktales purchased (actually given as a gift) before 1985, but there was a recent price reduction for the Kindle version ($1.99 for US residents). If I read the Kindle version can I mark both books as read or should I simply delete the paper version from the list? It's only 235 points, so the points don't bother me. It's more the remove from the pre-2018 list vs counted as read that is the question
I think the goal is to read books you own, so I'd say reading it in another format still achieves that goal.
