This book was incorrectly added to a Goodreads Author with the same name. I know the real author and she is not a member of Goodreads.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

Asking here is the way to go. Book moved to another author profile.

It has been removed from your profile. If you still see it, it's because of caching, though I don't see it. Try refreshing your page. It's no longer on your list of books: https://www.goodreads.com/author/list...

I moved the books two another profile, but please be aware, that you claimed a default profile.
This means that whenever an author with the same name as yours publish a book it will get imported to this profile.
If you want to avoid it you can contact support and ask them to move you to a different, non-default profile.

How can I fix this now so that it doesn't happen again or so that my book/s don't disappear? And can I say - how ridiculous that they don't make provision on Goodreads for Authors with the same name..!

Cheryl, Goodreads does make provision for the authors with the same name. We separate them using multiple spaces between the first name and the last name.
You claimed default, one-space profile with all books we had listed under this name.
The books from your profile that you requested to be moved are now on the 2-space profile here:

As I said you will need to ask support if you want to be moved to non-default profile.

Goodreads support has amended my position and I'm no longer the default author with my name. Again, thanks for the help, Olivia.

Hello,The six books listed for author “William Philpott” (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...) are actually by three different authors, all named William Philpott. To fix this problem, you will need to create two new profiles, and then reattribute the six books as explained below.
First, there’s the William Philpott who already has a Goodreads profile: the Professor of the History of Warfare at King’s College, London. He wrote or edited four of the six books you have listed under “William Philpott”:
