I have just finished reading The Old Ways: A Journey On Foot. This is a non-fiction book about walking ancient paths in the UK and other places. I am a keen hiker and have walked in some of the places he describes (Isle of Harris, Scottish highlands, Tibet). Macfarlane writes in a very poetic style, and gives wonderful descriptions of nature and the people he meets along the way. It was a great book to read for this earth challenge.

Thanks for the recommendation, Jackie. I know I can trust your taste, so I added it to my TBR.I am reading The Great Quake for this one (on the app so can't link it). It's also a thematic connection. I'm really really excited for this one for some reason, haha.
I'm going to read a series that was given to me by my mother in law - The Aldabreshin Compass by Juliet McKennaSouthern Fire - fire
Northern Storm - wind
Western Shore - earth
Eastern Tide - water
I struggled with this prompt, for some reason. I finally settled on Alabama Moon, which was on my tbr list. Although it is a juvenile book, I enjoyed it a great deal. This book is about a boy who was raised in the woods, so I think fits this prompt.
I read The Age of Miracles, which is a YA semi-post apocalyptic novel where the earth's rotation is gradually slowing.I thought it was a really good pick for this category but I wasn't the biggest fan of the book. I found it too slow and the main character was a bit flat.
Ali, The Age of Miracles is a great choice for this one. I loved it; I just thought the author explored whay would be the consequences really well.
I am planning to read A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin. She just passed away 2 days ago, and I think I will honor her by reading her book. RIP

RIP"I just finished that for the same reason, and while it's not my favorite Le Guin (that belongs forever to The Dispossessed), it's a very serviceable fantasy novel.
I read Journey to the Center of the Earth for this prompt.I thought about reading the Elemental Blessing series by Sharon Shinn for these four prompts. I love Troubled Waters, and need to reread Unquiet Land (since I've only read it once 😃 ).
I read Bones of the Earth - which I came across just by searching “earth” on Overdrive. So I had fairly low expectations and it was really fun. Dinosaurs, time travel, people stranded in the past and a view of what could be Earth in the future.

FYI! VAND means water in Danish ;-)
What are you reading for this category?I read Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne for this prompt. I chose this one because it fit nicely into the prompt, plus I bought the book 2 years ago meaning to read it then but just never got around to it!
Narma wrote: "I am planning to read A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin. She just passed away 2 days ago, and I think I will honor her by reading her book. RIP"I'm reading this one for the water prompt. I'm really excited. I've never read Le Guin.

If you've never read Le Guin, I highly recommend The Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed. They moved me like few books have.
Guests on Earth by Lee Smith. The title is taken from a quote by F. Scott Fitzgerald to his daughter, Scottie, "The insane are merely guests on earth...". The book features his wife Zelda and tells the story of the Highland Hospital where she was frequently treated for mental illness, and where she ultimately died in a tragic fire.
I’m using the first 4 books from the Air Awakens series by Elise Kova.Air Awakens
Fire Falling
Earth’s End
Water’s Wrath
I’ve owned these for awhile, so it also helps with my “read what I own” goal.
- What are you reading for this category?Dangerous Minds by Janet Evanovich
The story involves an entire island that just vanished and the main characters looking into the mystery of finding out what happened.

I read that this summer - during the eclipse!
I read The Fifth Season (Book 1 of the Broken Earth Series) for this prompt, and I loved it. Now I've had to adjust my plan to include The Obelisk Gate and The Stone Sky!
- What are you reading for this category? I am reading The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin which is part of her Broken Earth series (hence qualifying for the category, I think).
I'm reading Island Bluffs by Alan A. Winter, a book written by my wonderful periodontist, who is also a published author. The cover is funny in a Nancy Drew-ish kind of way. Hope he wields the pen as well as he wields those dental implements!
So I read Eon by Alison Goodman and the main character (Eon later EONA) has control over the Esrth as well as other elements
I opted for Force of Nature since the cover and the setting are both bush centred. And the bush is part of the earth.
I readLittle Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner. I really enjoyed Good in Bed, so I thought I'd enjoy this... it was ok, but not as good as GiB.
I read The Secret Wisdom of the Earth, and I'm still thinking about it almost 8 weeks later. What a wonderful book.
I chose The Good Earth for this prompt. A lot of the story revolved around the land that Wang Lung owns and how it is faring at that time.
I'm reading https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... by Anne Tyler. There is a lot in there about the earth. Great book!
I read Back When We Were Grownups by Anne Tyler. There are a lot of references to the earth in this book, even though it isn't the main theme. Good book, but not one of Ms. Tyler's best.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
I'm reading The Shepherd's Life: A People's History of the Lake District-- a book about farming/ sheep
I'm reading The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follett. I've heard wonderful things about it, so I'm looking forward to it.
What are you reading for this category? Not what I had originally planned, but I ended up reading Earthly Remains, which is volume 26 in a series where I have already read many volumes.
- What are you reading for this category? Faraway Home by Marilyn Taylor
Children escape the holocaust and go to Belfast where they live on a farm. Children from Dublin go up to help out with the farming during their holidays.
I'm reading The Good Earth for this. I'm not really enjoying the book, but it definitely fits this category perfectly.
Would Two Steps Forward work for this prompt? The book chronicles the pilgrimage through France and Spain to Santiago de Compostela.
guys, i really haven't stuck to my plan at all haha! I bailed on Balefire, which I was going to use for all four of the elements prompts, and I also swapped out Little Earthquakes. I haven't completed my Adult pick, but its definitely going to be Unaccustomed EarthFor mid Grade I read the Junior classics edition of Treasure Island ( its impossible to find the link to the exact edition I read, I think its published by penguin). I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and I'm not gonna lie I think that Junior Classic editions might be the way to go for me... ( Do they have one for Ulysses lol) It appears I really enjoy pirate stories ( who knew) and I was rooting for little Jim Hawkins the entire time I was reading this.
For the picture book challenge, I read a science book called A Rock Is Lively, which talked about different types of rocks, how old they are, how they are formed, what they are used for etc... It was pretty simple and the pictures were gorgeous.
I read Blood of the Earth for this week. Absolutely loved it! Of course fantasy is my favorite genre so I am more drawn to books of this nature.
I just started The Memory Garden for this. It's very gardeny and feels like a nice fit -- each chapter opens with an herb and a brief description of traditional uses out of folklore, too.
- What are you reading for this category? The Green Hills of Earth It has Earth in the title but basically it is all in space. I had a hard time with this category for whatever reason. I'm glad I'm reading this book though. It has been on my TBR for while. I didn't realize that it is a collection of short stories from Heinlein. They were written back in the 50's and with the 3 stories I've read so far it is pretty amazing that they were written back then.
I had a bunch of natural science books I could have chosen, but I started reading an old ARC I was given called The Waking Land by Callie Bates, and it was too perfect of a fit.
