Introduction and Welcome Thread
Hi all! I'm Jane and I joined several months ago. Welcome to all my fellow super newbies!! I discovered Georgette fairly late in life, maybe about 15 years ago? My first Heyer book was either Devil's Cub or The Corinthian, and I was hooked. I seriously overdosed and re-read all of her non-mysteries at least 2-4 times each. Decided to put myself on a Heyer-moratorium about three years ago (there was much twitching the first year!). I'm very excited to finally be picking up Regency Buck again for the January group read. It will be interesting to see what I think; I'm more critical now than I was before, but it's still against my religion to give any of her books less than 5 stars!! :))
Top favorites used to include: Frederica, The Grand Sophy, The Talisman Ring, Black Sheep, The Toll-Gate, Devil's Cub.

I'm glad you are still with us, Jane. :)

I'm rereading The Talisman Ring right now, and just finished The Grand Sophy and Frederica!
Thanks, Carol Sunshine! Ann, Yay! How fun to be rereading such great books! Will you have time to join the Regency Buck group read?
Hi, my name is Elizabeth Gibson. I am very much interested in reading Georgette Heyer. From my research so far, she has written several books that have been categorized such as regency novels, etc. All depending on taste in genre, I was wondering in what order her books should be read.

Here is the list;

Don't worry if you can't get hold of a particular title - there is no obligation to read any book. & we will be throwing in the occasional mystery. :)
Jane wrote: "Ann, Yay! Will you have time to join the Regency Buck group read?"I AM rereading Regency Buck...sort of. Not one of my favorites. I'm currently up to Judith receiving her snuff from Worth, whatever chapter that is. I don't mind the lists of Regency clubs, notable people, and pastimes that have annoyed some of our members, and I do like Beau Brummel's tips on how to be note-worthy. I also enjoy the mystery. This book lacks the scintillating conversations that GH perfects in The Talisman Ring.
HI !Karishma here.
Georgette Heyer was my introduction to Historical Romances.
Lady of Quality was the first book of hers I read.
This year I am planning to read almost all her books and have finished rereading - Arabella, The Grand Sophy, April Lady, Frederica and Sprig Muslin.
Abigail wrote: "It’s a good year to join the group, Karishma, because we’re reading all the Regencies in order."I will definitely join in once the Alastair Series is over.
We are getting a bit off track here guys this thread is just for introductions & mention your favourite Heyers.- I'll put on my GR librarian hat on & answer the series question in the spoiler thread for Regency Buck.Elizabeth & Susan of P I will move your comments to the correct threads. :)
Edit; Moved Barb of Maryland's comments as well.
Barb in Maryland wrote: "Susan in Perthshire wrote: "I don’t understand why Regency Buck is described as part of the Alastair series:- there are no Alastairs in RB!! TOS and the sequel Devil’s Cub, (which are 2 of my abs..."
Oh Barb you were too quick for me! :D I'll move your comments to the RB spoiler thread.
Unfortunately Susan's comment won't delete. I managed to delete Barb & Elizabeth's comments so it looks like this is a bug. I'll message Susan & see if she can get it to delete.Edit; typo.
& just to make me look like a crazy person, Susan's comment has now deleted! :D
I need another coffee

Hi! I’m Cara. I’ve been following this group for a while (reading all the daily emails!) and I feel bad that I haven’t yet at least said hi! I found out about Georgette Heyer through my mom I believe, about 2 years ago. I’m in my twenties and I’m so happy I found out about her! My absolute favorites are all the titles with names (Arabella, Venetia, Sylvester, Grand Sophy) but I still have so many to go. Oh, and Devil’s Cub! My husband is currently reading Arabella and laughs all the time. Good to meet everyone!
Hi, I'm Kim. My first GH was Pistols for Two. And my favorite right now is Devil's Cub. I am joining because I can't seem to get any of my bookworm friends to read GH and I really need to talk about The Quiet Gentleman with people.

Devil's Cub isn't just my favourite Heyer - it is my all time favourite book!
We are now reading GH's Regency books in order written. This month it is The Corinthian, next month will be Friday's Child We will be rereading The Quiet Gentleman in October. But we have read this book as a group before & the old threads are in the group folder. Feel free to dig them up & comment. :)

If you have finished reading the book, here is a link to the spoilers thread.

Hi everyone. I'm a total newbie to Georgette :) such a newbie that I have not even finished my first book and I am already looking for people to talk to. I knew nothing about GH except there is no sex in her romances. BUT from the first sentence, no from the first page, of Devil's Cub (which I'm still reading) I was devilishly intrigued and undeniably hooked. That first page is so visual, so real that I had to go and find out more about Georgette H. I read the whole wiki page about her. I thought she was author from 90's or 80's. I was shocked that her first book was published almost 100 years ago.
Now it's Friday night I am almost done with Devil's Cub and I'm laughing out loud how hilarious and fresh this book is.
I have read books that were literary written last month that don't feel so accurate or so close to human character then this book written almost 100 years ago about society from 300 hundred years ago.
I can't wait to read more. Thank you all for being here.
Hello Zita, welcome! You chose a great book to start with! My first was Grand Sophy, and I have not stopped reading GH since.
Thank you all for warm welcome. I have a plan to read These Old Shades after Devil's Cub but I don't see this book on anyone's most favorite. Should I put it off for later and get on with the book club to read Corinthian (March pick) or not?

These Old Shades is one of my top 5 by GH, as well as the first Heyer I read. This seems to be one that you either love or hate--I love it, warts and all. It was one of the first books she wrote, btw.

Hey Zita - like Barb, I read These old shades and devils cub back to back years ago, but the group is reading Heyer’s books in order published so we can see her development as a writer. If you read Corinthian you can see the threads where we are still discussing that book, then move ahead with the group next month with Friday’s Child!
Fyi, here’s the order we voted on for the rest of 2018 (moderators, please correct me if I’m wrong!):
April Friday's Child
May The Reluctant Widow
June The Foundling
July Arabella
August The Grand Sophy
September The Quiet Gentleman
October Cotillion
November Catch up month!
December Envious Casca aka A Christmas Story (mystery)
These Old Shades is a fun read, especially on audio. Welcome to the wonderful world of Georgette Heyer.
Hello Everyone,I discovered Georgette Heyer at my local library when I was in my early teens - These Old Shades was the very first book I read - and have re-read countless times and have been a faithful fan for years - so much so that I have been inspired to begin writing my own Regency novel - up to Chapter 5 now. Happy to be a member of the group.
Devil’s Cub was my first Heyer, closely followed by These Old Shades. I love them both and have re-read them dozens of times. I never get tired of either and I am so glad I read these 2 first and so began my life- long love of GH’s books. If I had read Penhallow first, I would never have touched any of her books again!
Hello, after hearing about this group on Twitter, I have joined :)I'm Helen, my first ever GH was Lady Of Quality and my favourite GH is Sylvester

A co-worker will hopefully be joining us one day soon. She asked the magic question "Have you read any of those post Pride and Prejudice type Jane Austenish romances?" Me: "Uh YES! NOT the New York Times bestselling modern people dressed up in pretty clothes where the heroine hops into bed with the hero in the 4th chapter." Co work says "Oh no I'm not into that at all!" Me: "Then you MUST read Georgette Heyer." So a future warm welcome to my co-worker who is about to discover the delights of Georgette Heyer!
