message 253: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (showjumperpro) Just finished Catching Fire. I absolutely loved it and I'm really hating having to wait till next year for book 3!

message 254: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephaniex88) | 76 comments I just finished Living Dead In Dallas by Charlaine Harris and I gave it 4/5. I'm really enjoying this series and I liked this one slightly more than Dead Until Dark.

^ That's good to hear! Catching Fire and The Huinger Games are on my Christmas list and I can't wait to read them! :D

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Finished Her Fearful Symmetry A Novel It was pretty good. Way differnt from The Time Traveler's Wife I like Audrey Niffenegger she writes with a good voice and I like how she puts scenery into the stories and makes it a character I want to viset and be around.

message 257: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I finished Blue Bloods (Blue Bloods, #1) by Melissa de la Cruz . It was pretty good. Now reading Masquerade (Blue Bloods, #2) by Melissa de la Cruz . I had all the first 3 books and since the first was such a fast read figured I'd bust through them all.

message 258: by Karla (new)

I haven't read either of those series yet but have purchased many of them because I know I'll get to them. But, I am on #6 of the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian and absolutely LOVE them. #7 comes out Dec 29th and I've already pre-ordered.

I really enjoyed Inkheart. I loved it so much, I had to run out and buy it in hardback! I also bought the other books in the series as well. It's a great book for book lovers!

Merry - My daughter is finishing the last book in the series, Inkdeath. She loves that series! I'd like to read it someday, but I'm just now getting started on the Harry Potter series, so it may be a while....

message 263: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (showjumperpro) I read Inkheart (Inkheart, #1) by Cornelia Funke and didn't like it that much. It was kind of slow, but I did think it was very creative & imaginitive. Many have said that the other two books are much better so I've been planning on reading them in the future. I did love Cornelia Funke's other book Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke .

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments So in agreement there Edyta!

message 266: by Pollyanna (new)

Pollyanna (polly8) Finished Wintergirls yesterday and loved it, it is emotional and very sad in parts but it is uplifting at the end.

message 267: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I just read Wintergirls two weeks ago also Pollyanna! Was a very poetic true feeling account I thought.

Pollyanna (polly8) Karla wrote: "I just read Wintergirls two weeks ago also Pollyanna! Was a very poetic true feeling account I thought. "

I agree the way it was written was as if it was a memoir, Anderson seemed to know exactly what to say.

message 269: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I was thinking that too. Anderson must have really done her homework there! I liked the ending too. Gave me good things to look for for my own children as well. Feel I learned a lot about eatting disorders and the pain and guilt of loss.

message 270: by Natasha (new)

Natasha (tasha_13) Just finished Fallen, It was predictable but still really good.
I actually cannot wait for the next one, there's far too many unanswered questions lingering about!!

message 271: by Sadie (new)

Sadie Just finished Mrs. Miracle and really liked it. A fun, tender christmas story.

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Diane D. wrote: "The Girl Who Played with Fire. "

So glad you liked it Diane D. Did it pick up speed faster than the first book? I want to read it next year hope to get the chance because "The girl who kicked the hornets nest" comes out next year as well :D

Karla, yes absolutely faster than the first. I actually liked it much more than the first one (and I liked the first one!). I would tend to recommend this one over the first one, but as with any series, it's always good to read them all, I think. When you finish The Girl Who Played with Fire, it's a given that you will definitely read the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

message 283: by Nadia (new)

Nadia A (bagambo) Just finished The Code of the Woosters by Wodehouse and loved it! Any book with Jeeves and Bertie in it is great.

message 284: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I finished Art of racing in the rain. What an insightful look into a special dogs mind and how he views all around him. Love Enzo! Its funny cause we always leave the TV on for our boxer when we are leaving the house.

message 285: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just finished the 5th Lily Bard novel by Harris. They were good. If I never read another, I probably won't miss them terribly, but they were entertaining.

message 286: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I read Water for Ele's not long ago for a group read and I'm trying to talk my husband into reading it cause it honestly surprised how's good it was also Amelia!

Karla ~ I'm about halfway through. I love this book, and this dog! I almost put it down in the first chapter, thinking it was going to be too heart-wrenching, but I'm so glad I kept going. What a special perspective. I'm going to go home and think about everything going on in my house from our boxers' perspectives now!

message 288: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Kaliki that is so what I'm doing to.....LOL! When there is a thread for this book we have to talk about it!

message 289: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Harris Yes! I think there will be one on Novel Ideas .. it's on of the group reads this month isn't it?

message 290: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Yes but no thread so far on it that I've noticed.
Kaliki are you staying warm? This weather is awful ya know we need to move south. Tomarrow has a wind chill of -35 brrrrr!!!!

message 291: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Harris Oh Karla, you're going to hate me when I tell you this...
I've been in Cancun for the last 5 days. So umm, yes I'm staying warm. Move on down! I'll stay!

message 292: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Oh I want to be in Cancun!!!! So unbelievably jealous right now! Wish I could be there! Waaaa!!!

message 293: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Harris I'm back now Karla. Back to the cold, but it's really not bad. I think I missed the worst of it.

LOVED LOVED LOVED that book!

The first two books I read in 2010 (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and The Art of Racing in the Rain) were spectacular. Now I don't know what to read next, my expectations are so high...

message 294: by Diane (last edited Jan 11, 2010 12:30PM) (new)

Diane (dianedj) Hi Klaliki, Enzo is a tough act to follow! And I've read so many good things on here about The Boy in the Sriped Pajamas that I may have to add this to my TBRs!

message 295: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Harris Highly recommend it Diane .. you will experience so many emotions. Plus it's a fast, easy read.

Looking back up through this thread, I'm thinking maybe Water for Elephants should be next for me.

I read Enzo last year...made such an impression I am able to discuss it a year later ;)
Water for Elephants, I know a lot of people love it; I found some of it very disturbing.

message 297: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Harris That's why I've avoided it for so long Diane. I've owned the book for almost 2 years, but haven't mustered up the courage to read it yet.

message 298: by Natasha (new)

Natasha (tasha_13) I've just finished the hunger games.
I thought it was a nice change from all the typical vamp/YA books
I'm definately gunna read the next one some time soon.

message 299: by Natasha (new)

Natasha (tasha_13) So I've just finished the hollow - Jessica verday.
Brilliant book, nicely written and a change from the normal vamp/immortal stuff. So Many unanswered questions - can't wait for the next book!!!
Definately recommend it to everyone!
And Caspian (the main dude) sure could give Patch a run for his moneyy lol
