I read THE GRAVEYARD BOOK a couple of months ago. It was an okay read, but I was definitely aware I was reading a kids book all through it.

message 163: by Tracy S (new)

Tracy S | 42 comments I just finished Coraline (my first Neil Gaiman book). I really enjoyed it. It was a quick read and the story was really creative.

message 164: by Pollyanna (new)

Pollyanna (polly8) I want to read Outlander it sounds like a good book.

The last book I read that I loved was Coraline, it was a great children's book and I loved the characters. I'm planning on reading more by Gaiman.

message 165: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Just finished The Book of Lost Things and I really, really liked it. It is a disturbing book though, not for the faint of heart.

message 166: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments Polly I want to start the outlander also well have to read it at the same time so we can discuss it!!

message 169: by Sadie (new)

Sadie I just finished Ghost Soldiers and though I can't say I loved the book because of the topic and all the prisoners of war went through, I am very glad I read it. It is about the Bataan Death March and the rescue of the remaining POW's.

message 170: by Ariadna (new)

message 174: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I finally finished Dracula. I loved it. Can't believe that its horror genre and classic category made me stay away from it so long. It was exquisite!

message 175: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I'm a little more than half way through The Gargoyle.
Jo your always reading the books I want again!!!

message 176: by Karla (new)

Karla (bookarita) | 289 comments I've been eyeing it at the store I guess waiting to see if my daughter asks for it first then I can call it her Christmas gift and when she is done with it! Selfish little me can read it? It probably won't go down like that ultimately Ill buy it and she will read it after me, I'm just looking for an excuse to get books for Christmas....LOL

message 178: by Amira (new)

Amira (aabdulhafid) Just finished the first two of the Ice and Fire books by George R.R. Martin. REALLY good! Couldn't put them down and sad that I don't have the last two with me yet.

message 179: by Jerrod (new)

Jerrod (liquidazrael) Amira wrote: "Just finished the first two of the Ice and Fire books by George R.R. Martin. REALLY good! Couldn't put them down and sad that I don't have the last two with me yet. "

I feel bad for you, GRR Martin has been teasing the world about finishing his series longer than Robert Jordan was. It's a good series, but it's frustrating that it's still incomplete.

message 180: by Maddie (last edited Nov 06, 2009 04:22PM) (new)

Maddie (showjumperpro) I've read the first two books of the Ice and Fire series too and I'm planning on reading the third sometime soon--it seems that everyone says the third is the best. I'm really disappointed though! GRR Martin said that he planned it to be a seven book series and yet he's growing older by the minute and not even finished with #5!!
This year, I've also read the Mortal Instruments books. They're soo good!

message 181: by Jerrod (new)

Jerrod (liquidazrael) he's pushed back #5 a couple of years in a row now from what I know. One of the pitfalls of engaging in a book series.

message 182: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I finished She's Come Undone this weekend and it was really good. Loved it.

message 183: by Tracy S (new)

Tracy S | 42 comments Just finished A Dirty Job and loved it!

message 184: by Sadie (new)

Sadie I just finished I Am Legend. Much different from the movie. I enjoyed the book and didn't mind how it ended.

message 185: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Sadie, you should check out the movie Vincent Price did based on "I Am Legend". It's called "The Last Man on Earth". You can get it free & legally from InternetArchive.org

http://www.archive.org/details/the-la...

It follows the book pretty closely & is really well done.

message 186: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Maybe there also should be a thread "What I recently read and hated", just read The Wild Things and I found it horrible.

Going to calm my nerves now with a book I know I love. The Hunger Games is a lovely read, can't wait to read Catching Fire (I should have it by next week).

message 187: by Sadie (new)

Sadie Thanks Jim. I read the book with my husband, so we'll should curl up around the computer one of these nights to watch it. Thanks for the info!

message 188: by DJ (new)

DJ (djdivaofjava) | 659 comments Great idea Jo!
I`ll see what I can come up with!!

message 189: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I just finished The Lost Symbol. I sort of enjoyed it, but it's not as exciting or good as The Da Vinci Code, and I definitely didn't like the ending.

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) I have just finished Mr Darcey's Diary by Amanda Grange and Me and Mr Darcy by Alexandra Potter. If you love Pride and Prejudice then try these as they are really great to read.

The Diary is Darcey's thoughts and feelings and his side of the story and the other book is a funny take on P and P the modern way.

Highly recommend these two!

message 191: by Harriet (new)

Harriet | 81 comments I've just finished The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks and really liked it. I saw the film a while back, and loved that, so I eventually got round to reading it too. Blubbed the whole way through the last chapter, same with the end of the film. The only other of his I've read is A Walk to Remember (what an awful film adaptation) but I'm definitely going to read more of his in the future.

message 192: by Emily (new)

Emily (devilyn) | 14 comments I finshed Far from Xanadu by Julie Anne Peters last night, i've read it a few times and keep going back. I love it

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Finished reading Poor Little Bitch Girl - Jackie Collins.

message 194: by Dean (new)

Dean (cowboys86) | 122 comments It feels like forever since I finished a book. Frankenstein has been going ridiculously slow for me, it's enjoyable and everything but because it's my designated "work book" I read it in really small chunks. It's not what I expected at all, I can't believe how much they changed from the book to make the movie.

message 195: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished the Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #3) by Laurell K. Hamilton. I know it is just the 3rd in the series but I have to say that I liked this one the best so far. Looking forward to diving into the next book.

I'm right there with you. I haven't even broken through to page 100. And you're right it is a lot different from the movies.

message 197: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I finished Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick a few days ago, and must say I was ultimately disappointed with it. It started out great, but I thought it pretty much fizzled out. OTOH, I finished Fade Out (The Morganville Vampires, #7) by Rachel Caine about 2 weeks ago and loved every single word of it. Right now I'm reading A Cedar Cove Christmas by Debbie Macomber which is actually pretty good, so far. Thought I could use a little holiday nudge!

I can't wait to start Caine's Vampire series. I have so many lined up I need to read but I think I'm gonna push up this series in my line up. I also want a good holiday read. I read The Christmas list by Evans I was pleasantly surprized how it affected me. I was bawling all over it! It's like an updated version of A Christmas story.
