Aisha (xaisha) | 14 comments Hi everyone! I'm Aisha.

I'm from the twin cities in MN, USA.

I'm open-minded and would love to give any genre a try. Anything with a good story, I'm down for it. As of now, I'm reading more fiction, young adult, fantasy, and historical novels. It's fun getting swept into new worlds. I also enjoy books I can learn new things from (educational, self-help/how to's, emotional, life in general) and with words and puzzles I can brew on (mystery novels, poetry, etc.). Sometimes, I do pick up the odd romance novel here and there. ;)

My reading goal for 2018 was 100 books at first. But after I started burning through more than I thought I would, I decided to challenge myself to 250 books. We'll see how it goes.

I found the group by browsing the community tab. I was exploring the website and thought I'd join some groups when this one caught my eye. I think it'll be fun reading with this group. I look forward to getting to know you all better. :)

Welcome Luis! Looking forward to your updates!

LOL

My name is Olga, I'm from Russia. My favourite genre is fantasy but I also read sci-fi, classic literature and, when I feel up to it, non-fiction and history.

Hi Olga! Welcome to the group!

I've been looking for groups and found yours, let's consider this as a sign).

A good sign! ;-)

...P.S. I won't mind if you will point out my language mistakes). ."
Hmm, English is not my native language so don't think I'll be of much help.

Hope you'll enjoy the group Olga! Just have a look around at everything it has to offer and if you see anything that piques your interest, just jump in!
Have fun! And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Colleen, welcome to the group!

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I absolutely love to read.

Lol, you sure aren't :)

I enjoy reading just about anything but my favorite books are typically fiction and fantasy.

Same here. Love thrillers, mysteries and horror as well.

My favorite author of all time is J.R.R. Tolkien. I found this group by clicking around on this site (I joined today so I was exploring). My reading goal for this year is 50 books.."

Sounds good! Will you be joining any of the challenges to help you reach your goal? Or maybe some of the monthly group and buddy reads?
In any case, hope you'll enjoy the group. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

General question: Is anyone going to participate in the PBS News Hour/ NY Times book group through Facebook? I thought I'd try it starting this month. ."

I think it's better to post your question in a thread in the Let's Chat thread (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...). More people will see it there.

message 1158: by Tam (new)

Tam May (tammay) | 9 comments Introducing myself quite late in the game, I'm afraid, but I joined the challenge on January 1.

My name is Tam May and I'm both a reader and a writer. I am a huge classic literature lover so most of the books I read are classics. I also like to read historical fiction and historical mystery fiction (classic and written today) are my guilty pleasure :-).

I'm in West Texas right now but I really consider San Francisco and the Bay Area home.

My reading goal this year is 60 books, which I hope I can do. That was my goal last year and I feel short by 5 books but I didn't really start getting into more voracious reading until later in the year so I kind of had a late start there. Not so this year. I'm currently reading 6 books at the same time!

Tam

Hi Andrea, welcome to the group! If you're looking to read more you have come to the right place! For me, joining this group in 2017 was a real help to get me to read more and get back into reading after a reading slump of many years. I started out with a tentative goal of 12 books, upped it to 24 during the year and ended up reading 46 books!!! All thanks to this group, the great challenges, the awesome group and buddy reads and last but certainly not least, the amazing group members who were always supportive, motivating and encouraging. I hope you'll have a similar experience.

In any case I hope you'll have a great time participating. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

message 1162: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 88 comments Hi everyone,

My name is Jess and I'm from and live in Canada. I'm happily married and we welcomed a little guy into our lives in 2016 so he will be two years old this year.

I enjoy reading many different genres of fiction books. The only genres I'm not to fond of are poetry and romance - but pretty much everything else is fair game! I'm a slow reader and now with the little guy I don't get too many books in a year but I try to make time everyday to read (even if it's only a few pages).

I look forward to being able to participate (at least in some capacity) within this group and always enjoy meeting fellow readers. I'm one of those people who tends to participate at times and lurk at other times. I hope everyone is having a great 2018 so far :)!

Sounds like we have a lot in common. I read about anything myself except for romance and poetry as well. And I too am a slow reader.
There are no rules to participating, some members are here every day, others check in once a month or so. It’s entirely up to you (and your possibilities).
Hope you’ll enjoy the group and everything it has to offer like all the great challenges, the fun and interesting group and buddy reads and much more. Just see what piques your interest and jump in! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Hello
I'm from the UK and while a member for years have decided this year I want to get more involved in the hope of broadening my reading tastes. I tend to crime and thriller with a bit of the classics, as well as some history/biography and some how-to and self help woo thrown in.

I used to read avidly but not so much recently and would like to get back to that point again, of reading for pleasure and reading current literature rather than only the old favourites all the time.

So I've set myself a challenge I hope will be more than achievable of 25 books this year.

message 1168: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alexandracm4) Hello everyone!! My name is Alex and my goal for 2018 is to read one book every month. This is something that I can commit to. I thought about doing two and I'm still going to try but due to my busy schedule I'm not fully committed to it just yet! I usually read YA but I want to try and venture out into other genres since I'm getting older. Reading about teen issues still interests me but I don't feel like I can relate to the characters as much as before!

Another thing that I want to start is a book club. I've never been apart of one and I think it would be really cool to. If anyone has any information or whatever holla @ me! I really look forward to reaching my goals and helping others through this community to reach theirs as well!

Ashy Khaira (asreenkhaira) | 38 comments Hi Everyone,I am Ashy from Singapore.

Reading goal is minimum 120 books for the year :)

Jamuna (jamunaj) | 1 comments Hi
This is Jamuna from Bangalore, India. I'm not an avid reader like others in the community. I just like to learn a lot of things, which fuels my reading habit. That means most of my reading consists of non-fiction. I do read fiction occasionally, if it's captivating enough (I prefer thriller/fantasy types).
I'm new to the reading challenge. My purpose of joining this year is to kick-start my reading habit which was lagging for last few years due to personal commitments. Also, I have a 3-month old boy who keeps me busy, so I kept my goal to a modest 10 books this year (completed 2 already). Hopefully my little one will give me enough free time to reach this little goal :)

Lucy Luu (lovelucyluu) | 115 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Lucy from Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.
My favorite genre is definitely Dystopian. I enjoy sci-fi and fantasy as well. I try to diversify the genres I read though. Except lately I've been reading a lot of series so that keeps me in the same genres. oops.
I came across this group when looking at my current groups on the groups page, and liked the idea of it.
I'm hoping to reach my yearly hundred. Normally I would try to increase my challenge except I'm going to school and working more shifts so reading a 100 books will be a challenge for sure.
Happy Reading!

Welcome to the group Lucy! Impressive goal you have going there, especially if you also have school and work! Glad you have joined us. If you're looking for a challenge to help you finish those series (so you can get to exploring different genres) you might want to check out our Serial Reader Challenge (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...).

I read pretty much everything; YA, poetry, contemporary, historical fiction, fantasy, classics, memoirs, non fiction etc. But I'm mainly drawn to sci fi and speculative fiction, it's definitely my weakness. I'm always up for recommendations, and love to discover new authors, so hit me up with your suggestions!

My reading goal this year is 250 and I've already managed to knock 50+ off my list, so I'm a tad proud of myself haha!

Annew (whatsannew) Hi everyone! My name is Anne, and I’m from the Netherlands.

I’m currently halfway through my Master of European Letters program at uni, which requires me to (obviously) read a lot of books. I try to read as many different things as possible throughout the year, and I kind of like everything: next to my ‘uni reading’ (which concerns mainly cannonical works) and all the joys I found there, I really enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, folklore and mythology, and all that good stuff 😊

Soo since my reading schedule also includes many academic articles and I also have my other hobbies I’ve set my reading goal to 25 books, quite a few of which will be books connected to my uni courses concerning Irish literature, Dutch literature and realism surrounding the 1880’s. Of course, I hope to cross that goal by a mile and a half, but since I always try to do/read too many things at the same time, I decided on 25 as a nice starting point.

If anyone has some awesome recommendations you think are absolute must-reads, or just wants to talk books, by all means!! I’m not really familiar with the social side of Goodreads, so not really sure how all of this works, but I can't wait to find out 😊

Happy reading!

I read so much as a child but fell off the wagon a few years ago. A year or so ago I rediscovered books and love reading again, but I've never been on a forum before. Goodreads was recommended to me recently, and I've just discovered the Groups tab. So here I am!
I set a goal of 10 books for the year, and with 2 books read in January, it's looking promising that I'll meet my goal! I'd love to know y'all's personal favorite books if you want to share, so I can read them all!

At this moment this is my list of recommendations (next to the HP's of course):

Allyson (Belle) | 38 comments Hey everyone!

My name is Allyson and I'm from Acworth, Georgia, USA. My reading goal for this year is 50. my goal last year was 100, but I did horribly, so I figured this year I'd knock it down a bit. I used to be able to read much more than I can now, with planning a wedding, working part time at the library, and getting my Master's in Library Science, it's made reading time harder to come by.

My favorite genres (and the majority of what I read) are YA fantasy, science fiction, and dystopian. With the occasional adult or juvenile novel thrown in.

Thanks for the add! I'm excited to join the challenges!
