Hi Mirella, welcome to the group! Great to hear that you are having more time for yourself and for reading now that your kids are a bit older. Hope that participating in this group will contribute to your fun in reading!

Jennifer (jcreamer) | 29 comments I'm Jennifer and live in Texas in the US. I'm up for reading just about any genre, although I find I have to push myself to read nonfiction. I teach 6th grade, so I read a lot of middle grade and YA books. Reading challenges help keep me focused on reading, instead of abandoning books for bright, shiny new ones, and help me stretch my reading by discovering new books, genres, and authors. I'm joining this group to participate in different challenges with varied timelines and to help me engage with other readers, instead of just using Goodreads to track my reading. I plan to read at least 100 books in 2018.

Lauren I'm Lauren from Michigan. Growing up I've always loved to read, probably in part because my mom is a reader too. I pretty open to any genre, try anything once. I discovered Goodreads about a year ago after joining a book club. It's a blessing and a curse. I love finding new books to read but can't read as fast as I find them :) Last year my goal was 20 books and realized that I could definitely read more than that so I upped it to 40 this year. Fingers crossed!

Hi Jennifer, welcome to the group! Glad that you have joined us and are planning on being so active. I also recommend the monthly group and buddy reads! They are fun and interesting and they're a perfect way to engage with other readers, discussing the books you've read together (I'm a bit addicted, so maybe not completely unprejudiced lol).
Have fun!!

I know what you mean Lauren!!! And also participating in this group, the interaction with fellow group members is so much fun, but takes up a lot of my (reading) time...
I'm glad you decided to join us nonetheless and hope that you'll enjoy participating as much as I do!! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask

message 708: by Emily (new)

Emily Murray (emlikesbooks) Hi all!

My name is Emily, I'm from Minnesota and it's REALLY COLD here right now. So naturally I'm thinking about books to try to fake my way into being cozy :)

I'm a big reader and I first discovered the popsugar challenge in 2015 when trying to figure out ways to read more in my senior year of college. I've gone along with the challenge for the last 3 years, but still haven't been able to finish it completely (school/work really gets in the way doesn't it?!).

I love YA fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction and recently found a love for mystery/thrillers! I also have a lil book blog where I write down all my thoughts. Not sure if this is against the "promotion" rule though, so I will refrain from sharing it more than that :)

Hoping to read 52 books this year, but I'm going to put a little less pressure on myself to finish the PS challenge, but rather use it as a way to find new kinds of books that push me out of my comfort zone!

Happy reading!
Emily

Hi Emily, welcome to the group! There’s nothing better than relaxing on the sofa with a good book, a hot cup of tea and my cat on my lap while it’s cold and windy outside :)
I just love mystery and thrillers! Next to fantasy, horror and many other genres lol.
Hope joining our group and us rooting for you will help you complete this years’ PS challenge! Have fun! And if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Ansh | 2 comments Hello,

I am Anshu from North Carolina. I have been in a reading slump for a while and decided to take up the challenge to get out of it. For now I have decided to read about twenty books this year, but I hope that I will exceed the number soon enough.
I am pretty much open to all genres. At the moment I am reading through all the classics and the must reads that I had missed while I was in my reading phase.

Thanks
AT

message 711: by Heather (new)

Heather (redbayheather) Hi I am Heather from Ontario, Canada. I recently retired and moved to a small cottage community that is currently snowed under. I figure I have no excuse for not reading lots during these snowy months. I love to read but when I was working I would hesitate because once a book grabs me the whole world can fall apart around me.

I tend to read authors, especially ones with recurring characters so I like to read them from the start. I enjoy all different genres but I would have to say that mysteries are probably the top of my list. This year I hope to expand my reading horizons.

message 712: by Kristy (new)

Kristy Johnston | 608 comments Hi! I'm Kristy from Texas. I grew up in a family that read a book pretty much every day (time restrictions on TV watching and all that back then). Unfortunately after college, RL interfered with that hobby and I forgot how much I enjoyed reading in the stress and chaos of life. Over the course of the last couple of years I've just started to pick it back up again, first with romance novels. I'm hoping this year to challenge myself to add one non-romance novel per week to my reading list, branching out so to speak and catching up from all those years of missing out on what I'm sure were some great reads. I was looking for a place to keep track of my new personal goal and the search groups brought me here!

I'm looking forward to joining in the discussions. I noticed that your read for the month The Picture of Dorian Gray is on my list to read for a quarterly challenge already (that was a sign!) so I'll have to move it up to the month of January and try to join in the discussion.

message 713: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Hi everyone, I'm Kaitlyn, I'm from California, and turning 25 soon! I am new to Goodreads--but I did my own book challenge for 2017; I managed to read 200 books! I will be doing a 50 book challenge while also studying for the GRE and applying to grad school. Any book recommendations are welcome and ask me if you would like any as well :)

I like pretty much all genres, particularly thrillers, science fiction, contemporary fiction, and mysteries! I also visit book stores way too often.

message 714: by Jessi (new)

Jessi Pop (jessiipop) Hello! My name is Jessi and I’ve been in GR quite a while but never actually committed to reading or complete challenges until last year. I’m from Mexico (AGS) so the reading culture is not something we’re known for, although I’m trying to change that.

Also, English is my second language, please bear with me through misspelling and lack of vocabulary. If you speak Spanish please tell me, I swear I’m smarter in Spanish!

I started reading fiction and contemporary when I was in high school maybe some classics too. But when I got to meet Carolina at the university I became a fantasy lover.
My goal last year was to read 10 books, I did it but completely neglected the goal until October or so.

This time I’m committed to read 24 books and I already organized the readings of my first 3 months by mixing up some thematic challenges I saw online.
I’m very glad to be in this community and share motivation to reach out goals !

message 720: by Bri (new)

Bri (readicculus) Hi All! My name is Bri, like the cheese! I am a teacher living in New Jersey, but grew up near the Canadian border in Upstate New York. I've always loved reading and spend most of my free time reading something, whether it be a novel or the news. I will read pretty much anything in the science fiction/fantasy genres, but like to explore other literary fiction and even the occasional nonfiction. I grew up reading Harry Potter; the first book was published when I was a fourth grader and the final book was released when I was a senior in high school, so I literally grew up with the story.

I decided to find an online book group to branch out and have a means of discussing the stories I read. I have never been involved in any book clubs before but this seems like a good place to start! I'm not committing to more than I can handle, so this year I am going to read 12 books, one each month. I started the new year with Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right. Good luck to all and looking forward to discussing with you!

Hi Heather!

I have to admit I'm a little jealous, imagining sitting in a cozy cottage under a blanket with the smell of wood smoke on the air. Not having to leave the house for days, that sounds like my kind of relaxation! Very peaceful. I hope you find happiness and tranquility in your snowy little community and are able to meet your reading goals. Stay warm!

I love reading so much and I've loved it since I was little.

Hi Anshu, welcome to the group! :)

I think you have come to the right place. For me, joining this group in 2017 was a real help to get back into reading after a reading slump of many years. I started out with a tentative goal of 12 books, upped it to 24 during the year and ended up reading 46 books!!! All thanks to this group, the great challenges, the awesome group and buddy reads and last but certainly not least, the amazing group members who were always supportive, motivating and encouraging. I hope you'll have a similar experience!
If you have any questions or need any help, don't hesitate to ask!

Mackensi Green | 3 comments Hello! I am Mackensi and I live in Texas, USA. I read YA but I’m trying to delve more into adult fiction this year. My 2018 goal is to read 20 books this year. Last year I had the worst reading slump of my life and I am getting back into reading. Therefore, I don’t want to overdo it. Also, school is my main priority right now. A lot of my clubs are counting on me this year as a leader and I am starting to figure out what I want to do with my life. I think I will definitely surpass my goal but, at the moment, I am keeping it small! I am excited to use this platform to motivate me to read!

I am a blood donor (random fact)

I first started goodreads last year, I found goodreads due to (ironically) hunting for books😀.

I read all sorts of books and all sorts of genre. If a book interests me then I’m down. I am part of a book club at my local library.

My goal for 2018 is 600 books because I love to challenge myself. I read everywhere and anywhere. I’m the college bus, walking home etc...

I am also a huge film/ tv show buff and again I watch anything at all . My favorite authors include Jojo Moyes, Michael Grant and lots more.

I am in love with the 80s and I really love shows like outlander (very historical). I would love to read plenty of historical books but they are hard to find.
